This study examined how the characteristics of smartphone affect the functional performance of smartphones. In particular, this study focused on an understanding of the correlation between smartphone functional factors and usage habits. Functionality is defined as 11 kinds of functional elements. The characteristics of the smartphones were defined as the hardware characteristics and the user habits characteristics. Eighty subjects were organized to collect actual data by the smartphone function. The actual time required to perform each function was measured and observed five times for each functional element. Regression analysis was performed using Minitab ver.14 by classifying the measured values of the functional elements as dependent variables, the hardware characteristics collected through the questionnaire, and the user's usage habits as 12 independent variables. Overall, it is difficult to conclude that demographic and hardware characteristics of smartphone users have a significant effect on the performance. On the other hand, the variables related to smartphone usage habits have had a great impact on the performance of smartphone tasks, and as a result, the task execution time has increased. In simple input variables or viewing variables, the effects on usability was relatively small, but in all active variables, the execution time increased 10% - 30% in all tasks except for phone calls, seeking phone numbers, and dictionary search. Thus far, if the smartphone user interface has been provided uniformly in a large and simple manner, users with various usage habits can be utilized even if the input method and task processing method are more complicated and various interface types are provided.

Smartphone is affecting not only our everyday life but also our business, directly causing diverse side-effects. But up until now, many researches that have been conducted on smartphone were focused on continuance intention for smartphone use and user satisfaction. Thus, the objective of this research is to investigate the effects that smartphone dependency has on digital dementia which is one of negative effects of smartphone. For the purpose, we have reviewed studies that are related to perceived characteristics of existing smartphones. As perceived characteristics variables, we have adopted perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. And to present our research model, we have adopted smartphone dependency as psychological attitude variable and digital dementia as consequence variable. To implement an empirical analysis of our research model, we have conducted a survey with college student groups as research target who use smartphone most.
There has been a significant paradigm shift in the book industry from print to digital, with the increased use of electronic books (e-books) on e-book readers. The major online booksellers and publishers are devoting their energies to the growth of the e-book market, resulting in an upward spiral in e-book usage, and a resultant increase in the number of downloaded e-books in an e-book reader library. However, there are comparatively few features for e-book management and search in most e-book reader libraries, particularly in smartphone environments. In addition, the user interfaces of e-book management in e-book readers are highly diverse, which has led to major usability issues. In this paper, we analyze user preferences for e-book management and search in the libraries of the five most commonly used e-readers for the Android smartphone platform via a questionnaire survey. Then, we suggest ideal alternatives in addition to user-friendly features based on user preferences for managing e-book libraries, to allow users to more easily browse collections, thereby enhancing the usability of e-book readers.

Smart building gate security control system using smartphone integrated with near field communication (NFC) has become part of daily life usage these days. The technology change in replacing RF NFC device using visible light communication technology based approach growing faster in recent days. This paper propose a design and development of gate security control system using color code based user authentication ID generation as part of an intelligent access control system to control automatic door open and close. In this approach gate security access control use the recent visible light communication technology trends to transfer the user specific authentication code to door access control system using color code on smartphone screen. Using a camera in the door access control system (ACS), color codes on smartphone screens are detected and matched to the database of authenticated user to open the door automatically in gate security system. We measure the visual light communication technology efficiency as a part of the research and the experiments have revealed that more than 95% users authenticated correctly at the suggested experiment environment on gate security control system.

There have been previous researches about user authentication by analyzing the user's gait or behavior or action using the accelerometer sensor of smartphone, but there was a lack of user convenience to apply PIN entry. In this paper, we propose the technique for PIN entry without a touch on smartphone, the technique uses an accelerometer sensor and a vibration sensor built in the smartphone to enter the PIN. We conducted a usability experiment using the proposed technique and confirmed that the usability can be increased according to users become accustomed to this technique and that the users can enter PIN with 12.9 seconds and a probability of 100% on average. Also we conducted a security experiment and confirmed that an attack success rate is 0% when an attacker attacked the user using the recording attack and that it is more secure than the previous PIN entry technique. As a result, we was able to confirm that this technique can be used sufficiently.

Due to the development of communication technology, a conventional major business through PC, laptop or Tablet PC can be performed via a smartphone and it is increasing the user's convenience. At this point, the user prefers to connect to the Internet using the wireless network because it occurs an additional charge according to the amount of data to be transmitted when using a data communication through 3G or 4G. However, when using a wireless network, there is a possibility of several attacks such as easily steal or modulate the information from the outside or to gain access to personal information stored in the user's smartphone with man-in-the-middle attacks by using the fake AP. IIn this paper, we describe how you can detect the AP when you use LAN of the smartphone, were analyzed for this vulnerability, has not been approved. Furthermore, Also, we discuss ways which can enhance the security when user the access to the internet services (i.e., internet, public/private cloud service, etc.) via wireless network in smartphone.
This study analyzed the influence of smartphone addiction on adaptation to school life by using the questionnaire survey method of 431 students of radiological science in six regions. Current smartphone authentication systems are deemed inconvenient and difficult for users on remembering their password as well as privacy issues on stolen or forged biometrics. New authentication system is demanded to be implicit to users with very minimum user involvement being. This idea aims towards a future model of authentication system for smartphones users without users realizing them being authenticated. We use the most frequent activity that users carry out with their smartphone, which is the calling activity. We derive two basics related interactions that are first factor being arm's flex (AF) action to pick a phone to be near ones' ears and then once getting near ear using second factor from ear shape image. Here, we combine behavior biometrics from AF in first factor and physical biometrics from ear image in second factor. Our study shows our dual-factor authentication system does not require explicit user interaction thereby improving convenience and alleviating burden from users from persistent necessity to remember password. These findings will augment development of novel implicit authentication system being transparent, easier, and unobtrusive for users.

Self efficacy is a term used in psychology, roughly corresponding to a person's belief in their own competence. It has been defined as the belief that one is capable of performing in a certain manner to attain certain goals. It is believed that our personalized ideas of self-efficacy affect our social interactions in almost every way. Understanding how to foster the development of self-efficacy is a vitally important goal for positive psychology because it can lead to living a more productive and happy life. The objective of this study is to show difference of the relationship between user and non-user in smartphone by self efficacy. For this purpose, we propose a research model which consists of 3type' self efficacy. For empirical test of this model, the sample data is collected from employee in a company and divided into two groups by user and nonuser. By multi-group analysis, we show two groups are different from each other in the relationship between user and nonuser of smartphone. Results show difference of the relationship smartphone user and non-user's self-efficacy(self-control self-efficiacy and problem difficulty preference).
