  • A power-saving mechanism for smartphone devices is developed by analyzing the features of data that are received from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors devices to optimize the data processing policies. In the proposed GreenIoT architecture for power-saving in IoT, the power saving and feedback mechanism are implemented in the IoT middleware. When the GreenIoT application in the power-saving IoT architecture is launched, IoT devices collect the sensor data and send them to the middleware. After the scanning module in the IoT middleware has received the data, the data are analyzed by a feature evaluation module and a threshold analysis module. Based on the analytical results, the policy decision module processes the data in the device or in the cloud computing environment. The feedback mechanism then records the power consumed and, based on the history of these records, dynamically adjusts the threshold value to increase accuracy. Two smart living applications, a biomedical application and a smart building application, are proposed. Comparisons of data processed in the cloud computing environment show that the power-saving mechanism with IoT architecture reduces the power consumed by these applications by 24% and 9.2%.

  • This research aims at developing an electronic culture atlas using smart phones as a way to share the research results of Mind Humanities. An electronic atlas offers the web service of a great deal of information without the limitation of paper, which is different from the existing paper maps. When the concept of culture is added to an electronic atlas, it becomes an electronic culture atlas. To create an application program using smartphones, their various features should be understood and the development method to maximize them is necessary. Accordingly, in this paper, what needs to be taken into consideration for the service based on smartphones and the characteristics of smartphones to be considered in the development process were examined.

  • Awareness that smartphones can be used as tools for criminal activity is prevalent in many organizations, but the functionally smartphone-like smartwatch's potential as a criminal tool is being overlooked. Considering this situation, this research verifies the possibility of information leakage through an insider's smartwatch in a situation where smartphones are controlled by security regulations and technologies, but smart watch are not. By analyzing information related application usage and Wi-Fi connection generated in the smartwatch during the verification process, forensic information and limitations are identified. Finally, this research proposes preventive methods to prepare for potential smartwatch-related crimes, and reconsiders awareness of the possibility of using smartwatches as criminal tools.

  • This paper empirically investigates the factors that influence the consumer choice of an app market based on the rational choice theory. The app market is the only channel where a consumer can buy smartphone apps, which give various functional convenience and are considered to be a major contributor to the proliferation of smartphones. Analyses of 281 questionnaires show that usability and structural guarantees as benefit factors significantly influence the app market choice. From the cost perspectives, both monetary and non-monetary conversion costs are found to significantly influence the app market choice. On the other hand, customer trust, information quality, and market image were found to have no significant effect on app market selection. In particular, Korean app market platform providers (KT, LG U +) seem to be superior in terms of structural guarantees, such as customer center operation and damage compensation regulations, compared to overseas app market platform operators (Google). However, in the case of the Google App Market, it is pre-installed on all Android phones, so it is not inconvenient to install additional apps to use other app market. This is disadvantageous to domestic app market platform operators, and it is necessary to establish a policy solution point. In terms of operator costs, both monetary and non-monetary conversion costs have a significant impact on app market choice. In particular, non-monetary conversion costs have a negative impact on Korean app market platform operators. It can be explained that the service expectation level of the domestic app market is low and it is recognized that the time cost factor such as membership is large for new users to use. It seems to be necessary to improve the domestic app market business. Meanwhile, extant research on smartphone apps focuses on the purchase of apps themselves, but not on the selection of the app market itself. In order to fill in this gap, this study focuses on the determinants of app market selection, including the characteristics of an app market and the switching costs.

  • The purpose of this research is to look upon the smartphone market from the perspective of business ecosystems and to extract the critical success factors of OS platforms. Furthermore, this research aims to verify the effect of those factors on increasing utility resulting from the rising number of users as well as on intention of use. In order to do this, OS compatibility and OS upgradability were presented as the major characteristics of OS platforms and a logical causal relationship between network effect and intention to use which shows the increase of utility according to the number of users was established which was then followed by an empirical analysis. The results of the research showed that OS compatibility and OS upgradability both had positive effects on network effect and intention to use. By presenting the characteristics of OS platforms, a subject which has lacked pervious empirical studies, and establishing a logical causal relationship for the role platform characteristics play in the formation of business ecosystem in the smartphone market, it is expected that the findings of this research will contribute greatly not only academically but also in practical applications.

  • Grit is a person's passion and perseverance that drive them to achieve long-term and meaningful goals. The purpose of this study was to identify practical resources that can affect single parents' grit. Using the fourth-year panel data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS 2018), descriptive statistics were produced and a correlation analysis was conducted for 284 single parents. Hierarchical regression analysis was also performed to explore the demographic factors, personal resources(psychological, lifestyle/health), and family resources(family relationships/child, economic) that affect single parents' grit. First, the correlation analysis revealed that single parents' grit had a significant correlation with age, education status, life satisfaction, happiness, self-esteem, smartphone dependency, physical activity time, frequency of breakfast consumption, household size, parent's satisfaction with child's school achievement and school adjustment, subjective family economic status, and private education expenses. Second, the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that education status, self-esteem, employment status, smartphone dependency, physical activity time, household size, parent's satisfaction with child's school achievement, and subjective family economic status were significant factors affecting single parents' grit. Based on the research results, this study suggests directions for programs and policies to provide a stable environment for single-parent families to raise their children.
