The possibility of adopting vibration-powered wireless nodes has been largely investigated in the last years. Among the available technologies based on the piezoelectric effect, the most common ones consist of a vibrating beam covered by electroactive layers. Another energy harvesting strategy is based on the use of piezoelectric strips attached to a hosting structure subjected to dynamic loads. The hosting structure, for example, can be the system to be equipped with wireless nodes. Such strategy has received few attentions so far and no analytical studies have been presented yet. Hence, the original contribution of the present paper is concerned with the development of analytical solutions for the electrodynamic analysis and design of piezoelectric polymeric strips attached to relatively large linear elastic structural systems subjected to random vibrations at the base. Specifically, it is assumed that the dynamics of the hosting structure is dominated by the fundamental vibration mode only, and thus it is reduced to a linear elastic single-degree-of-freedom system. On the other hand, the random excitation at the base of the hosting structure is simulated by filtering a white Gaussian noise through a linear second-order filter. The electromechanical force exerted by the polymeric strip is negligible compared with other forces generated by the large hosting structure to which it is attached. By assuming a simplified electrical interface, useful new exact analytical expressions are derived to assess the generated electric power and the integrity of the harvester as well as to facilitate its optimum design.

This study aims to develop an all-fabric integrated smart jacket in order to create a temperature-regulating system based on a user experience design. For this research, previous research technologies of a textile switch interface and a temperature-regulating system were utilized and a unifying technology for the all-fabric integrated smart jacket was developed which can provide the appropriate temperature environments to the human body. A self-heating textile was applied at the areas of the back and hood in the final tested jacket, and an embroidery circuit was developed in the form of a rectangle in the back and in both ears of the hood, taking into account the pattern of the jacket part where it was be applied and the embroidery production method. The textile switch interface was designed in a three-layer structure: an embroidery circuit line in a conductive yarn, an interval material, and a conductive sensing material, and it was made to work with the input and output sensors through the multiple input method. After the all-fabric integrated smart jacket was produced according to the pattern, all of the textile band lines for transmission were gathered and connected with a miniature module for controlling temperature and then integrated into the inside of the left chest pocket of the jacket. After the users put on this jacket, they were asked to assess the wearing satisfaction. Most of them reported a very low level of irritation and discomfort and said that the jacket was as comfortable as everyday clothing.

Friction in a post-tensioning system has a significant effect on the distribution of the prestressing force of tendons in prestressed concrete structures. However, attempts to derive friction coefficients using conventional electrical resistance strain gauges do not usually lead to reliable results, mainly due to the damage of sensors and lead wires during the insertion of strands into the sheath and during tensioning. In order to overcome these drawbacks of the existing measurement system, the Smart Strand was developed in this study to accurately measure the strain and prestressing force along the strand. In the Smart Strand, the core wire of a 7-wire strand is replaced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer in which the fiber Bragg grating sensors are embedded. As one of the applications of the Smart Strand, friction coefficients were evaluated using a full-scale test of a 20 m long beam. The test variables were the curvature, diameter, and filling ratio of the sheath. The analysis results showed the average wobble and curvature friction coefficients of 0.0038/m and 0.21/radian, respectively, which correspond to the middle of the range specified in ACI 318-08 in the U.S. and Structural Concrete Design Code in Korea. Also, the accuracy of the coefficients was improved by reducing the effective range specified in these codes by 27-34 %. This study shows the wide range of applicability of the developed Smart Strand system.

Smart grid is a fully-automated, bi-directional, power transmission network based on the physical grid system, which combines sensor measurement, computer, information communication, and automatic control technology. Blockchain technology, with its security features, can be integrated with Smart Grids to provide secure and efficient power management and transmission. This paper dicusses the deployment of Blockchain technology in Smart Grid. It presents application areas and protocols in which blockchain can be applied to in securing smart grid. One application of each area is explored in detail, such as efficient peer-to-peer transaction, lower platform costs, faster processes, greater flexibility in power generation to transmission, distribution and power consumption in different energy storage systems, current barriers obstructing the implementation of blockchain applications with some level of maturity in financial services but concepts only in energy and other sectors. Wide range of energy applications suggesting a suitable blockchain architecture in smart grid operations, a sample block structure and the potential blockchain technicalities employed in it. Also, added with efficient data aggregation schemes based on the blockchain technology to overcome the challenges related to privacy and security in the smart grid. Later on, consensus algorithms and protocols are discussed. Monitoring of the usage and statistics of energy distribution systems that can also be used to remotely control energy flow to a particular area. Further, the discussion on the blockchain-based frameworks that helps in the diagnosis and maintenance of smart grid equipment. We have also discussed several commercial implementations of blockchain in the smart grid. Finally, various challenges have been discussed for integrating these technologies. Overall, it can be said at the present point in time that blockchain technology certainly shows a lot of potentials from a customer perspective too and should be further developed by market participants. The approaches seen thus far may have a disruptive effect in the future and might require additional regulatory intervention in an already tightly regulated energy market. If blockchains are to deliver benefits for consumers (whether as consumers or prosumers of energy), a strong focus on consumer issues will be needed.

Among all industries, the construction industry still remains a traditional one with low productivity due to its labor-intensive and field-dependent production system, its supplier-oriented industrial structure, and the disruption of the information flow between participants. In addition, the construction industry in South Korea has recently been required to transform itself according to social trends such as aging, the reduction of skilled workers, and the shortening of working hours, and the disaster and death rates in the industry, which are more than twice as high as those in other industries, are making it more necessary to solve chronic safety problems. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to grasp the actual condition of safety management on construction sites in South Korea and analyze cases of K-smart technology utilization for preventing safety accidents on construction sites. The study investigated and analyzed the following. First, construction sites in South Korea were analyzed by type of safety accident, by type of construction, and by construction contract amount. Second, the current status of accidents on small-sized construction sites with a high fatal accident rate and cases of safety accidents on construction sites were investigated. The results of the study are expected to contribute to the dissemination and spread of smart safety technology for not only identifying major factors in safety accidents that occur on construction sites but also preventing workers from suffering accidents.
This paper describes the forming conditions of smart-phone curved glass using the glass molding system with force applying system. The force applying system is composed of a body, a motor and gear, a rectilinear movement structure, a force sensor, a LVDT sensor (Linear Variable Differential Transformer), a up and down moving block, and so on. The glass molding system for characteristic test to find the forming conditions consists of the force applying system and a chamber, a metallic mold, a upper heater, a lower heater and so on. The characteristic test for forming conditions of smart-phone curved glass was carried out at forming temperature $620^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$ using the glass molding system. As a result of the characteristic test, the forming conditions of curved glass could be found, and it is thought that the conditions can be used to apply to the system for producing in large quantities.
In this paper, transmitted sound reduction performance of smart panels is studied according to different piezoelectric materials with piezoelectric shunt damping. Peizo-damping is implemented by using a newly proposed tuning method. This method is based on electrical impedance model and maximizing the dissipated energy at the shunt circuit. By measuring the electrical impedance at the piezoelectric patch bonded on a structure, an equivalent electrical model is constructed near the system resonance frequency. After shunting elements are connected to the equivalent circuit, the shunt parameters are optimally searched based on the criterion of maximizing the dissipated energy at the shunt circuit. Transmitted sound reduction performance is compared according to different piezoelectric materials with peizo-damping. Two piezoelectric materials are selected: PZT-5 and QuickPack IDE actuator. When resonant shunt circuit is considered, the use of PZT-5 exhibited the good sound reduction performance.
This research is concerned with development of the active vibration absorber using piezoelectric actuators. This active isolation system consists of a-pairs of PZT actuators bonded on a S-shaped aluminum plate and the passive damping material. The active system is connected to the passive system in series. In this paper, one of the popular control techniques which have been successfully applied to the smart structure is the Positive Position Feedback(PPF) control. The digital PPF control lows downloaded to the DSP chip and a main program, which runs SISO PPF algorithm. The structure and dynamic characteristics of the proposed active vibration isolation system and described in detail. To demonstate the effectiveness of the active vibration control, the PPF controller is first employed. Experimental results show that the active vibration isolation is possible by means of the proposed system.
The reliability analysis of structures subjected to stochastic loading involves evaluation of time and probability of the system's residence in a reference domain. In this paper, we derive an asymptotic estimate of exit time for multi-degrees-of-freedom structural systems. The system's dynamics is governed by the Lagrangian equations with linear dissipation and fast additive noise. The logarithmic asymptotic of exit time is found explicitly as a sum of two terms dependent on kinetic and potential energy of the system, respectively. As an example, we estimate exit time and an associated structural performance for a rocking structure.
