Purpose: The purpose of this study is the time series analysis for predicting the yield of crops applicable to each farm using environmental variables measured by smart farms cultivating tomato. In addition, it is intended to confirm the influence of environmental variables using a deep learning model that can be explained to some extent. Methods: A time series analysis was performed to predict production using environmental variables measured at 75 smart farms cultivating tomato in two periods. An LSTM-based encoder-decoder model was used for cases of several farms with similar length. In particular, Dual Attention Mechanism was applied to use environmental variables as exogenous variables and to confirm their influence. Results: As a result of the analysis, Dual Attention LSTM with a window size of 12 weeks showed the best predictive power. It was verified that the environmental variables has a similar effect on prediction through wieghtss extracted from the prediction model, and it was also verified that the previous time point has a greater effect than the time point close to the prediction point. Conclusion: It is expected that it will be possible to attempt various crops as a model that can be explained by supplementing the shortcomings of general deep learning model.

Recent improvements on the quality, fidelity and availability of biometric data have led to effective human physical activity detection (HPAD) in real time which adds significant value to applications such as human behavior identification, healthcare monitoring, and user authentication. Current approaches usually use machine-learning techniques for human physical activity recognition based on the data collected from wearable accelerometer sensor from a single wearable smart device on the user. However, collecting data from a single wearable smart device may not provide the complete user activity data as it is usually attached to only single part of the user's body. In addition, in case of the absence of the single sensor, then no data can be collected. Hence, in this paper, a continuous HPAD will be presented to effectively perform user activity detection with mobile service infrastructure using multiple wearable smart devices, namely smartphone and smartwatch placed in various locations on user's body for more accurate HPAD. A case study on a comprehensive dataset of classified human physical activities with our HAPD approach shows substantial improvement in HPAD accuracy.

The automotive industry is undergoing a paradigm shift due to the convergence of IT and rapid digital transformation. Various components, including embedded structures and systems with complex architectures that incorporate IC semiconductors, are being integrated and modularized. As a result, there has been a significant increase in vehicle defects, raising expectations for the quality of automotive parts. As more and more data is being accumulated, there is an active effort to go beyond traditional reliability analysis methods and apply machine learning models based on the accumulated big data. However, there are still not many cases where machine learning is used in product development to identify factors of defects in performance and durability of products and incorporate feedback into the design to improve product quality. In this paper, we applied a prediction algorithm to the defects of automotive door devices equipped with automatic responsive sensors, which are commonly installed in recent electric and hydrogen vehicles. To do so, we selected test items, built a measurement emulation system for data acquisition, and conducted comparative evaluations by applying different machine learning algorithms to the measured data. The results in terms of R2 score were as follows: Ordinary multiple regression 0.96, Ridge regression 0.95, Lasso regression 0.89, Elastic regression 0.91.

In this paper, we propose the interference cancellation scheme of end-to-end method algorithm for power line communication (PLC) systems in smart grid. The proposed scheme estimates the channel noise information of receiver by applying a deep learning model at the receiver. Then, the estimated channel noise is updated in database. In the modulator, the channel noise which reduces the power line communication performance is effectively removed through interference cancellation technique. As an impulsive noise model, Middleton Class A interference model was employed. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER). From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme has better BER performance compared to the theoretical model based on additive white Gaussian noise. As a result, the proposed interference cancellation with deep learning improves the signal quality of PLC systems by effectively removing the channel noise. The results of the paper can be applied to PLC for smart grid and general communication systems.
The Smart Music Learning Device(SMLD) presented in this paper constructs the display part by attaching the touch panel to both sides of the transparent panel. The main processing unit uses raspberry pie, and the operating system uses Android. On the transparent panel, music education contents are displayed, and on the touch panels 1 and 2, the inputs of learners and instructors are accepted. The signal input from the touch panels 1 and 2 controls the progress of the music education contents through a process in the main processing unit. This control process design and implement a two - sided panel - based interactive training algorithm. This device aims at musical education based on mutual understanding. Therefore, it conducts face-to-face education using music education contents presented through transparent panel. This allows the instructor to know in real time the response to the learner, thus improving the understanding of the learning and the quality of the education. Also, the learner's concentration can be improved.

People counting is an important technology to provide application services such as smart home, smart building, smart car, etc. Due to the social distancing of COVID-19, the people counting technology attracted public attention. People counting system can be implemented in various ways such as camera, sensor, wireless, etc. according to service requirements. People counting system using WiFi AP uses WiFi CSI data that reflects multipath information. This technology is an effective solution implementing indoor with low cost. The conventional WiFi CSI-based people counting technologies have low accuracy that obstructs the high quality service. This paper proposes a deep learning people counting system based on WiFi CSI data. Data preprocessing using auto-encoder, data augmentation that transform WiFi CSI data, and a proposed deep learning model improve the accuracy of people counting. In the experimental result, the proposed approach shows 89.29% accuracy in 6 subjects.
Structural health monitoring (SHM) plays a vital role in the maintenance and operation of constructions. In recent years, autonomous inspection has received considerable attention because conventional monitoring methods are inefficient and expensive to some extent. To develop autonomous inspection, a potential approach of crack identification is needed to locate defects. Therefore, this study exploits two deep learning-based segmentation models, DeepLabv3+ and Mask R-CNN, for crack segmentation because these two segmentation models can outperform other similar models on public datasets. Additionally, impacts of label quality on model performance are explored to obtain an empirical guideline on the preparation of image datasets. The influence of image cropping and label refining are also investigated, and different strategies are applied to the dataset, resulting in six alternated datasets. By conducting experiments with these datasets, the highest mean Intersection-over-Union (mIoU), 75%, is achieved by Mask R-CNN. The rise in the percentage of annotations by image cropping improves model performance while the label refining has opposite effects on the two models. As the label refining results in fewer error annotations of cracks, this modification enhances the performance of DeepLabv3+. Instead, the performance of Mask R-CNN decreases because fragmented annotations may mistake an instance as multiple instances. To sum up, both DeepLabv3+ and Mask R-CNN are capable of crack identification, and an empirical guideline on the data preparation is presented to strengthen identification successfulness via image cropping and label refining.
Three-dimensional (3D) models have become crucial for improving civil infrastructure analysis, and they can be used for various purposes such as damage detection, risk estimation, resolving potential safety issues, alarm detection, and structural health monitoring. 3D point cloud data is used not only to make visual models but also to analyze the states of structures and to monitor them using semantic data. This study proposes automating the generation of high-quality 3D point cloud data and removing noise using deep learning algorithms. In this study, large-format aerial images of civilian infrastructure, such as cut slopes and dams, which were captured by drones, were used to develop a workflow for automatically generating a 3D point cloud model. Through image cropping, downscaling/upscaling, semantic segmentation, generation of segmentation masks, and implementation of region extraction algorithms, the generation of the point cloud was automated. Compared with the method wherein the point cloud model is generated from raw images, our method could effectively improve the quality of the model, remove noise, and reduce the processing time. The results showed that the size of the 3D point cloud model created using the proposed method was significantly reduced; the number of points was reduced by 20-50%, and distant points were recognized as noise. This method can be applied to the automatic generation of high-quality 3D point cloud models of civil infrastructures using aerial imagery.

In recent research, deep learning-based methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in various computer vision tasks. However, these methods are commonly supervised, and require huge amounts of annotated data to train. Acquisition of data demands an additional costly effort, particularly for the tasks where it becomes challenging to obtain large amounts of data considering the time constraints and the requirement of professional human diligence. In this paper, we present a data level synthetic sampling solution to learn from small and imbalanced data sets using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). The reason for using GANs are the challenges posed in various fields to manage with the small datasets and fluctuating amounts of samples per class. As a result, we present an approach that can improve learning with respect to data distributions, reducing the partiality introduced by class imbalance and hence shifting the classification decision boundary towards more accurate results. Our novel method is demonstrated on a small dataset of 2789 tomato plant disease images, highly corrupted with class imbalance in 9 disease categories. Moreover, we evaluate our results in terms of different metrics and compare the quality of these results for distinct classes.
