  • In this paper, we have designed and implemented the 'N-screen based solar power monitoring system' using N-screen technology by improving the existing monitoring system that can only be accessed or controlled by PC. The HW of the system is consists of solar power modules, inverter, and relay server. And SW is implemented in consideration of the following three points. First, we applied the N-screen technology in order to support various devices. Second, we applied 1:N communication technology that multiple devices can be connected simultaneously to the relay server. Third, we also considered the security problems between server and devices. The final system has been evaluated through the operational test and received good reviews from the technical and economic point. In the future, we are expecting that this technology will replace the existing monitoring systems in various fields, like smart home, smart building, smart city, smart industry, and smart agriculture, etc.

  • Developments and applications of the structural health monitoring (SHM) systems have become active particularity for long-span bridges in Korea. They are composed of sensors, data acquisition system, data transmission system, information processing, damage assessment, and information management. In this paper, current status of research and application activities on SHM systems for civil infra-structures in Korea are briefly introduced by 4 parts: (1) current status of bridge monitoring systems on existing and newly constructed bridges, (2) research and development activities on smart sensors such as optical fiber sensors and piezo-electric sensors, (3) structural damage detection methods using measured data, and (4) a test road project for pavement design verification and enhancement by the Korea Highway Corporation. Finally the R&D activities of a new engineering research center entitled Smart Infra-Structure Technology Center at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology are also briefly described.

  • In today's highly competitive business environment, most companies try to manage their logistics function strategically to satisfy their orders as cost-effectively as possible and maximize their present and future profits. In this environment, logistics process visibility is essential to companies wishing to competently track components, parts, or products in transit from the original suppliers to the final destinations. Thus, it is important to provide instantly and easily recognizable information about such visibility to all stakeholders, especially customers. To ensure a high-level geographical visibility of the logistics processes, in this paper, we propose a way of implementing a GIS-based logistics process monitoring environment and of integrating a performer's work processing environment on the monitoring system. Additionally, to provide more abundant monitoring information, we describe a procedure for creating and processing various monitoring information, which are represented as ECA rules in this work processing environment. Therefore, it is possible to provide intuitive and visible monitoring information regarding the logistics process and resource elements.

  • Wearable computing is growing rapidly as research on body area communication network using wireless sensor network technology is actively conducted. In particular, there is an increasing interest in smart clothing measuring unrestrained and insensitive bio signals, and research is being actively conducted. However, research on smart clothing is mainly based on 1: 1 wireless communication. In this paper, we propose a multi-access monitoring system that can measure bio-signals by multiple users wearing smart clothing. The proposed system consists of wireless access device, multiple access control server and monitoring system. It also provides a service that allows multiple users to monitor and measure bio signals at the same time.

  • This paper discusses the design, implementation, and potential use of an ontology-based mobile pediatric consultation and monitoring system, which is a smart healthcare expert system for pediatric patients. The proposed system provides remote consultation and monitoring of pediatric patients during their illness at places distant from medical service areas. The system not only shares instant medical data with a pediatrician but also examines the data as a smart medical assistant to detect any emergency situation. In addition, it uses an inference engine to infer instant suggestions for performing certain initial medical treatment steps when necessary. The applied methodologies and main technical contributions have three aspects: (a) pediatric consultation and monitoring ontology, (b) semantic Web rule knowledge base, and (c) inference engine. Two case studies with real pediatric patients are provided and discussed. The reported results of the applied case studies are promising, and they demonstrate the applicability, effectiveness, and efficiency of the proposed approach.

  • This study aims to provide power monitoring system for super tall buildings with 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology. In order to realize this subject, standard specifications for BIM objects and attributes were studied through analyzing processes and elements of electrical utilities for power management systems applied for super tall buildings. These standard BIM specifications could be used by designers, contractors and facility operators, and thus could be helpful to realize BIM information sharing between multiple disciplines and construction phases. And further study has been suggested to develop standard specification and applications from this study.

  • Recently process industries from oil and gas procedures and mining companies to manufactures of chemicals, foods, and beverages has been exploring the USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Networks) technology to improve safety of production processes. However, to apply the USN technology in the large-scale plant industry, reliability and security issues are not fully addressed yet, and the absence of the industrial sensor networking standard causes a compatibility problem with legacy equipment and systems. Although this situation, process industry such as energy plants are looking for the secure wireless plant solution to provide detailed, accurate safety monitoring from previously hard-reach, unaccordable area. In this paper, SPSF (Smart Plant Safety Framework based on Reliable-Secure USN) is suggested to fulfill the requirements of high-risk industrial environments for highly secure, reliable data collection and plant monitoring that is resistant to interference. The SPSF consists of three main layers: 1) Smart Safety Sensing Layer, 2) Smart Safety Network Layers, 3) Plant Network System Layer.
