  • In this paper, a compact and wideband CLAS(Conformal Load bearing Antenna Structure) was studied using smart skin technique. In order to satisfy the electrical performance of the CLAS antenna, the proposed CLAS antenna is composed of conductive mesh, face-sheet, radiator, honeycomb, housing. Especially, radiator is composed of composite magneto-dielectric material and radiating element etched on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The radiating element is inserted into the composite magneto-dielectric material and has sloted Folded LP(Log Periodic) structure. By fabricated composite magneto-dielectric, the resonance frequency is decreased and the impedance matching characteristics is improved. We verified that the antenna has wideband characteristics and compact size using the antenna test results.

  • The study of sensor network database is beginning to liven up as we are interested in Ubiquitous Computing technology in hardware, communication, database and so on. Especially, as new smart sensors have capabilities of real-time information gathering and analysis of each sensor node, data processing becomes an important issue in Ubiquitous Computing. In thesis, we have applied TinyDB(query processing system) to carry sensor node with line tracer which can follow the fixed path. After we gathered data around path, we have processed data in TinyDB GUI, gathered data, displayed data on a web server. Also we have a web browser on an embedded board for convenient user interface and implemented touch screen such that users can operate with a finger.

  • Internationally the load carrying capacity of bridges is decreasing due to material deterioration while at the same time increasing live loads mean that they are often exposed to stresses for which they were not designed. However there are limited resources available to ensure that these bridges are fit for purpose, meaning that new approaches to bridge maintenance are required that optimize both their service lives as well as maintenance costs. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provide a tool that could support such an optimized maintenance program. In many situations WSNs have advantages over conventional wired monitoring systems in terms of installation time and cost. In order to evaluate the potential of these systems two WSNs were installed starting in July 2007 on the Humber Bridge and on a nearby approach bridge. As part of a corrosion prevention strategy, a relative humidity and temperature monitoring system was installed in the north anchorage chambers of the main suspension bridge where the main cables of the bridge are anchored into the foundation. This system allows the Bridgemaster to check whether the maximum relative humidity threshold, above which corrosion of the steel wires might occur, is not crossed. A second WSN which monitors aspects of deterioration on a reinforced concrete bridge located on the approach to the main suspension bridge was also installed. Though both systems have provided useful data to the owners, there are still challenges that must be overcome in terms of monitoring corrosion of steel, measuring live loading and data management before WSNs can become an effective tool for bridge managers.

  • Various events of stop, playback, capture, and zoom-in/out in playing video is available in the monitor of a small size such as smart phones. However, if the size of the display increases, then the cost of the touch recognition is increased, thus provision of a touch event is not possible in practice. In this paper, we propose a video event control system that recognizes a touch inexpensively from the depth information, then provides the variety of events of the toggle, the pinch-in / out by the single or multi-touch. The proposed method finds a touch location and the touch path by the depth information from a depth camera, and determines the touch gesture type. This touch interface algorithm is implemented in a small single-board system, and can control the video event by sending the gesture information through the UART communication. Simulation results show that the proposed depth touch method can control the various events in a large screen.

  • This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework for evaluating the impact of motivational factors on the work results of lecturers at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), one of two leading multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral national universities in Vietnam. This study has considered wages and other benefits (WB), training and development (TD), working environment (WE) and working motivation (WM) as motivational factors, and proposed a structural model of the impact of motivational factors on the work results of lecturers at VNU. The empirical analysis used data from the survey data of 321 university lecturers. Comprehensive, valid, and reliable tools (SPSS 26 and SmartPLS 3.0 software) are used to evaluate rigorous statistical tests including convergence validity, discriminatory validity, reliability, and average variance extracted to analyze and verify the gathered data, and the hypotheses developed. The result of path analysis shows that four motivational factors constitute a structured system with different degrees of influence on the work results of lecturers. There is also a positive relationship between the motivational factors and the work results of lecturers. As a result, it can be concluded that all hypotheses developed are supported. Several recommendations are further suggested to improve the performance of lecturers at VNU.

  • Internet traffic is rapidly increasing due to the spread of personal smart devices and the demand for multimedia contents. When designing a large ship such as cruise, network architecture is also considered which supports various IT services in a maritime environment similar to the ground environment. In this paper, we consider wireless P2P (peer-to-peer) communication for efficient multimedia content sharing and propose novel handover scheme for efficient download service. The proposed handover method shows that it can improve the download symbol rates for handover in a wireless P2P system considering the signal strength and quality of peers as well. The proposed system is expected to provide efficient contents distribution and reliable communication in the ship-area-network (SAN).

  • Ships built today are larger in scale and feature more complex structures. The ever-evolving systems used on board a ship require vast amounts of data processing. In the future, with the advent of smart ships, unmanned ships and other next-generation ships, the volumes of data to be processed will continue to increase. Yet, to date, ship data has been processed using wired networks. Placed at fixed locations, the nodes on wired networks often fail to process data from mobile devices. Despite many attempts made to use Wi-Fi on ships just as on land to create wireless networks, Wi-Fi has hardly been available due to the complex metal structures of ships. Therefore, Wi-Fi on ships has been patchy as the ship-wide total Wi-Fi coverage has not properly implemented. A new ship-wide wireless network environment is part of the technology conducive to the shipbuilding industry. The wireless network environment should not only serve the purpose of communication but also be able to manage and control multiple features in real-time: fault diagnostics, tracking, accident prevention and safety management. To better understand the characteristics of wireless frequencies for ships, this paper tests the widely used TETRA, UHF and Wi-Fi and sheds light on the features, advantages and disadvantages of each technology in ship settings. The proposed deployment of a Super Wi-Fi network leveraging the legacy UHF system of TMS generates a ship-wide wireless network environment. The experimental findings corroborate the feasibility of the proposed ship-wide Super Wi-Fi network environment.
