The small craft including jet-board for leisure are commonly smaller than the general commercial vessels. For the floating vessel, the motion analysis is significantly important component to design the shape. It is, however, hardly predicting its behavior by using conventional boundary element method due to violating small amplitude assumption for potential theory. The computational fluid dynamics method can afford to simulate such small craft, but its grid system was not able to calculate motion, because movable body disturbs the grid system by confliction. The dynamics fluid body interaction model with over-set mesh system can be dealt with movable floating body under irregular ocean wave. In this study, several cases were considered to reveal that DFBI is essential method to predict floating body motion. The single phase simulate was conducted to establish the shape perfection, and then the validated vessel was simulated with ocean waves weather DFBI option on or off. Through the comparison, the results between the cases of DFBI on and off shows significantly difference. It was claimed that the DFBI was necessary not only to calculation body motion, but also to predict accurate drag and lift force on the floating body for small size craft.
A method to predict the dynamic roll stability of hard-chine planing craft is presented. Starting with the equation of motion, an equation governing small roll perturbations is developed. The roll restoring moment acting on the hull is evaluated by considering “static”and dynamic contributions. The contribution of rudders and skegs, which is significant for this type of craft, is also determined. A worked example is presented to show how the method can be used to find the maximum center of gravity height for transverse stability.

Unlike conventional airplane, a WIG craft experiences righting moment and adverse yaw moment in banked turning in ground effect. Numerical simulations are carried out to study the aerodynamics of banked wing in ground effect. Configurations of rectangular wing and delta wing are considered, and performance of endplates and ailerons during banking are also studied. The study shows that righting moment increase nonlinearly with heeling angle, and endplates enhance the righting. The asymmetric aerodynamic distribution along span of wing with heeling angle introduces adverse yaw moment. Heeling in ground effect with small ground clearance increases the vertical aerodynamic force and makes WIG craft climb. Deflections of ailerons introduce lift decrease and a light pitching motion. Delta wing shows advantage in banked turning for smaller righting moment and adverse yaw moment during banking.

The longitudinal stability characteristics of a Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft are quite different from that of the conventional airplane due to the existence of force and moment derivatives with regard to height. This stability characteristics plays a great role in designing a safe and efficient WIG due to its potential danger in sea surface proximity. The static and dynamic stability criteria are derived from the motion equations of WIG in the framework of small disturbance theory and discussed in the paper. The static and dynamic stability analyses of a 20-passenger WIG are conducted based on the wind tunnel test data and the dynamic motion behaviors are investigated for the change of the design parameters. Finally, the flying quality of the 20-passenger WIG is analysed at the cruising condition according to the military regulations.
The planing craft is designed specifically to achieve comparatively high speed on the surface of the water. Most of planing crafts have installed the spray strip in decreasing of wave impaction and improving motion performance of rolling and pitching et al. It is known to reduce the spray and frictional resistance by the effect of lift and improvement of wave profile in high speed. In this paper, the high speed planing crafts with & without spray strip in bottom were performed to compare the resistance performance by model-test. In conclusion, the high speed planing crafts with spray strip in bottom was proved to effect of the resistance decrement of $3.0{\sim}5.0%$.

Wing-in-Ground vehicles and aerodynamically assisted boats take advantage of increased lift and reduced drag of wing sections in the ground proximity. At relatively low speeds or heavy payloads of these craft, a flap at the wing trailing-edge can be applied to boost the aerodynamic lift. The influence of a flap on the two-dimensional NACA 4412 airfoil in viscous ground-effect flow is numerically investigated in this study. The computational method consists of a steady-state, incompressible, finite volume method utilizing the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. Grid generation and solution of the Navier-Stokes equations are completed using computer program Fluent. The code is validated against published experimental and numerical results of unbounded flow with a flap, as well as ground-effect motion without a flap. Aerodynamic forces are calculated, and the effects of angle of attack, Reynolds number, ground height, and flap deflection are presented for a split and plain flap. Changes in the flow introduced with the flap addition are also discussed. Overall, the use of a flap on wings with small attack angles is found to be beneficial for small flap deflections up to 5% of the chord, where the contribution of lift augmentation exceeds the drag increase, yielding an augmented lift-to-drag ratio.
Marine casualities in the high sea are mainly classified into the breakage of hull and capsize , of which the latter occurs frequently to a small craft and container vessels by extreme rolling. The aim of this study is to develop shiphandling techniques for the prevention of ship's large rolling by way of evaluating dangerous degree of rolling in heavy weather. In this study, rolling motion is analized by using statistical method as follow : (1) 8 sample ships is presented for calculation. (2) Analized sea state are Beaufort scale 7 and 10 (wind velocity 30kts and 50kts respectively) and significant wave height is put as 5.2m and 11.2m. (3) The formula recommended by International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) is used to calculated the wave spectrum. The results of this study are as follow : The results of this study are as follow : (1) Most of the vessels with beam of 20 meters or less was found to be capized in the waves abeam under the sea condition of Bearfort scale7(30kts). (2) For the vessels range 20m to 30m was found safe under the sea conditions of Bearfort scale 7(30kts) and imminent danger under the sea condition of Beaufort scale 11(50kts). (3) It is proved that any vessel could be capsized by heavy rolling regardless of vessel's size whenever the motion is synchronized with waves abeam. This study concludes that the navigator, especially at night , must anticipate the exact wave direction, referring to the wether report and coastaline, not to lay the vessel in the serial wave abeam.

Dynamic aeroelastic behavior of structurally nonlinear Joined Wings is presented. Three configurations, two characterized by a different location of the joint and one presenting a direct connection between the two wings (SensorCraft-like layout) are investigated. The snap-divergence is studied from a dynamic perspective in order to assess the real response of the configuration. The investigations also focus on the flutter occurrence (critical state) and postcritical phenomena. Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCOs) are observed, possibly followed by a loss of periodicity of the solution as speed is further increased. In some cases, it is also possible to ascertain the presence of period doubling (flip-) bifurcations. Differences between flutter (Hopf's bifurcation) speed evaluated with linear and nonlinear analyses are discussed in depth in order to understand if a linear (and thus computationally less intense) representation provides an acceptable estimate of the instability properties. Both frequency- and time-domain approaches are compared. Moreover, aerodynamic solvers based on the potential flow are critically examined. In particular, it is assessed in what measure more sophisticated aerodynamic and interface models impact the aeroelastic predictions. When the use of the tools gives different results, a physical interpretation of the leading mechanism generating the mismatch is provided. In particular, for PrandtlPlane-like configurations the aeroelastic response is very sensitive to the wake's shape. As a consequence, it is suggested that a more sophisticate modeling of the wake positively impacts the reliability of aerodynamic and aeroelastic analysis. For SensorCraft-like configurations some LCOs are characterized by a non-synchronous motion of the inner and outer portion of the lower wing: the wing's tip exhibits a small oscillation during the descending or ascending phase, whereas the mid-span station describes a sinusoidal-like trajectory in the time-domain.

In this study, we have discussed about the effect of hydrofoil arrangement and longitudinal moment characteristic on longitudinal motion stability of fully-submerged hydrofoil by the experiment of tandem hydrofoil model. First of all, tandem hydrofoil model that has canard wing arrangement has been made and characteristics of lift force and drag force by performing the lift force and drag force measuring experiment has also been estimated. Besides, tandem hydrofoil model's wing arrangement which has the initial stability and self stability of longitudinal motion has also been determined. In longitudinal stability experiment of tandem hydrofoil model, the motion characteristic of pitch and heave and the longitudinal stability of foil borne condition by variation of self stability of longitudinal moment and longitudinal distance are estimated. The result from the experiment and it's important conclusion can be described as below; Increase the self stability for longitudinal moment, the higher self stability for pitch motions in a constant pitch angles. By increasing the self stability for longitudinal moment, the range of fluctuation of pitch motion and heave motion for pitch angle also will change relatively small and longitudinal stability is excellent. Lastly, when the lift force of hydrofoil is remain constants, we can conclude that securing the enough self stability for longitudinal moment is essential for stable foil borne condition of tandem hydrofoil.

Previously sailing yachts or leisure yachts were mainly made from FRP(Fiber glass reinforced plastic) in the small shipbuilding, but recently there is a trend to replace it for steel or aluminum to substitute FRP for environmental friendly materials. Although It have to need a many checked item in case of hull girder strength and transverse strength normally evaluate base on calculation of class guideline so called direct calculation method. Otherwise. this method of initial structural design considered enough for safety margin on the structure. But, case of small craft must consider for evaluating local strength through rational method. In this paper, check the bow structure members for satisfying results base on allowable stress criterion of damaged bow structure by dynamic load due to slamming and bottom impact load due to pitching motion through finite element analysis. and investigate engine bed structure considering engine weight load and transverse wave load.
