Recently, every hospital requires the creative and novel design which is different from the conventional concept to deal with various circumstances. Accordingly, various space arrangements are proposed against the past uniform hospital type. But the sufficient studies about medical facilities in small and medium city and countryside still lack, otherwise there is short but continuous accumulation of data about the study for general hospitals. In this sense, this study generalizes the present medical condition in Ansan city and analyzes the spatial composition and area distribution in departments for the purpose of presentation of fundamental data about medical policy and architecture in Ansan city.
Peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia(PPDH) is uncommon and congenital disease in dogs and cats. In PPDH, the peritoneal organs such as liver, small intestine, stomach and omentum are displaced into the congenital defect between pericardial sac and diaphragm and cause the abnormal round and enlarged cardiac silhouette. Abnormal cardiac silhouette contacts with the cranial diaphragmatic border consistently and soft tissue- and/or gas- density structures are summated over the cardiac density in radiography. The contrast medium flows from peritoneal cavity into the pericardial sac and demonstrates the herniated abdominal organs and the abnormal defect in positive peritoneography. In this study, 4 dogs was diagnosed as PPDH using radiography, peritoneography and thoracic ultrasonography and showed various clinical signs according to the kind, amount and clinical state of herniated abdominal organs.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify nurses'critical thinking disposition, self-leadership and clinical competency in small to medium sized hospitals less than 300beds. Methods: Data were collected using the questionnaire from 227 nurses in Incheon city and Gyeonggi province from March to April, 2017. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}^{\prime}s$ test to identify differences in critical thinking disposition, self-leadership and clinical competency. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to identify the correlation among the study variables, and multiple regression was used to identify factors contributing to clinical competency. Results: There were significant differences in critical thinking disposition according to age, marital status, clinical career, career in currently working department and education about leadership. Significant differences in self-leadership were identified according to marital status, work position, working department, work type, education about leadership, and turnover intention. Clinical competency was significantly different depending on age, education, monthly income, work position, career in currently working department, work type, education about critical thinking disposition and education about leadership. Clinical competency was positively correlated critical thinking disposition and self-leadership. Critical thinking deposition, monthly income and self-leadership explained 30.1% of clinical competency of nurses working in small to medium sized hospitals. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that we need to improve nurses'critical thinking disposition, self-leadership, and the clinical competency.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between clinical knowledge and provision of pressure ulcer care and to identify factors associated with performance of care. Methods: Participants were 202 nurses working in one of 6 small to medium hospitals. Self-report questionnaire were used and data were collected from December 11 to 18, 2009. Results: Mean score for knowledge about pressure ulcer care was 0.81. In subcategories, knowledge of risk factors inducing pressure ulcers was 0.93, knowledge of assessment of pressure ulcers was 0.90, and knowledge of treatment methods for pressure ulcers was 0.61. Mean score for performance of care activities for patients with pressure ulcers was 3.63/5. There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge and performance (r=.319, p<.001). According to multiple regression analysis, general perception (${\beta}=.306$, p<.001), knowledge (${\beta}=.247$, p<.001), and hospital size (${\beta}=.156$, p= .015) had an impact on the extent of nurses' performance of pressure ulcer care. Conclusion: Study results indicate that further education on pressure ulcer care is necessary to enhance nurses' knowledge about pressure ulcers and to increase rate of performance of pressure ulcer care.
Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is a rare benign vascular lesion that is characterized by proliferation of small to medium-sized vascular structures lined by histiocytoid or epithelioid endothelial cells and often accompanied by an inflammatory infiltrate comprising lymphocytes, plasma cells and eosinophils. A 34-year-old man without any generalized systemic conditions presented with a slowly enlarging painless swelling in the buccal area. An excisional biopsy was conducted and the diagnosis of Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia was confirmed. We report a case of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia of the buccal area in oral cavity and review the previously reported cases and literatures of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia.
Recently, the Korean medical system changed with diversification & specialization and the field of medical service is also specialized in these days. And healing environment is proposed as a general concept in the hospital architecture. There is a trend that a establishment of women's hospital is increasing as specialized type. In difference from general hospital, they are providing specialized and integrated services in response to the women's disease and demand. Particularly, Outpatient department space in women's hospital has been changed in terms of area, shape and program. However, there used to be not enough research efforts of responding these changes. This study includes the Outpatient department of s women's hospital in the form of small and medium sized building over a certain level in Korea. And the methods of the study adopted the theoric examination based concept and features of women's hospital, the abstraction of distinctions in the Outpatient department through the analysis of the drawing, and the analysis of distinctions in the Outpatient department of women's hospital with the structural space classified and the analysis of space relation. Therefore, the purpose of this is to study investigates and analyzes the spatial characteristics of the Outpatient department space in women's hospital through a analysis of case study. To conclude, the space composition can be classified into the entry space, the clinic space for patients, the support space of patients' check-up, the reception and waiting space, the rest and convenience space, and the link space in the Outpatient department of women's hospital. The level space can account for the waiting space type, the clinic office type, the type based on the relation between the waiting room and the clinic office with its features. As a result, the results will be applied for the planning & design for the future women's hospital.
Objective: Although various human cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been defined, their applications are restricted to immunocompromised models. Developing a novel CSC model which could be used in immunocompetent or transgenic mice is essential for further understanding of the biomolecular characteristics of tumor stem cells. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed murine lung cancer cells for the presence of CSCs. Methods: Side population (SP) cells were isolated by fluorescence activated cell sorting, followed by serum-free medium (SFM) culture, using Lewis lung carcinoma cell (LLC) line. The self-renewal, differentiated progeny, chemosensitivity, and tumorigenic properties in SP and non-SP cells were investigated through in vitro culture and in vivo serial transplantation. Differential expression profiles of stem cell markers were examined by RT-PCR. Results: The SP cell fraction comprised 1.1% of the total LLC population. SP cells were available to grow in SFM, and had significantly enhanced capacity for cell proliferation and colony formation. They were also more resistant to cisplatin in comparison to non-SP cells, and displayed increased tumorigenic ability. Moreover, SP cells showed higher mRNA expression of Oct-4, ABCG2, and CD44. Conclusion: We identified SP cells from a murine lung carcinoma, which possess well-known characteristics of CSCs. Our study established a useful model that should allow investigation of the biological features and pharmacosensitivity of lung CSCs, both in vitro and in syngeneic immunocompetent or transgenic/knockout mice.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual conditions related to the working environment of radiological technologist who is working in small or medium-sized hospitals or clinics. The results of this study were intended to improve the working environment of radiological technologist and care for patients. For data collection, a structured questionnaire was used as a research tool, and 838 women (52.4%) were used as a general characteristic of 1,598 people subject to this questionnaire. The annual salary of radiological technologists with less than one year experience was 33.76 million won, and the average annual salary of radiological technologists with more than 10 years of experience was 41.33 million won. It showed an increased of 1.84% per year. Among 1,540 radiological technologists, 879 workers were paid holiday work allowances, 340 workers did not, and 321 holiday workers work during the week. In addition, a total of 817 workers received overtime payment, of which 112 received overtime wage on a monthly basis regardless of the overtime hours. In addition, a total of 348 radiological technologists were not paid overtime wage, and 138 workers were included in the basis salary. There were no union in 85% of the them. According to the results of this study, the wages and working environment of radiological technologists in small or medium-sized hospitals or clinics were not appropriate. Therefore, the efforts of the radiological association and its members are necessary to provide a better working environment for radiological technologists. In addition, it is expected that this study will be used as basic data for the association's policy to improve the working environment of members who work in poor conditions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the status of infection control nurses (ICNs) and their activities, and to identify the factors affecting the level of infection control activities. Methods: Data were collected from 199 hospitals from June 24 to July 26, 2016. The structured questionnaires included status of infection control nurses, type and level of infection control activities. Results: Most participating hospital were advanced general hospital (20.1%) and general hospital (67.8%). Among the hospitals, 86.4% had an infection control department (ICD). The average hospital work experience of ICNs was 14.62 years, and their average infection control career was for 4.94 years. Among the ICNs, 85.6% worked in full time and the average number of beds per ICN was 311.21. There were significant differences in the existence of ICD, infection control activities including surveillance, outbreak investigation, negative pressure room, hand hygiene monitoring, disinfection, and sterilization according to hospital size. The level of infection control activities was higher with more number of ICNs, ICN employment as full time, and healthcare institution accreditation status. The explanatory power was 37.5%. Conclusion: These results of this study which reflect infection control status of healthcare facilities with more than 150 beds in 2016 will provide baseline data to establish infection control system in small to medium sized hospitals after the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome outbreak in 2015.

This study is descriptive research conducted to determine the levels of depression, emotional intelligence, and psychological well-being of nurses employed in small-and medium-sized hospitals, as well as to identify the correlations of these variables, predict factors influencing nurses' psychological well-being, and finally, test the mediating effects of emotional intelligence in the relationship between depression and psychological well-being. The subjects of the study included 336 nurses employed in small-and medium-sized hospitals located in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Using a structured questionnaire, a sample was taken from December 17, 2016 to January 8, 2017. The results that the nurses showed an average level of depression with a mean score of 1.55 points, while their mean scores of emotional intelligence and psychological well-being were above average (3.05 and 3.51 scores, respectively). Depression exhibited negative (-) correlations with emotional intelligence and psychological well-being, whereas emotional intelligence had a positive (+) correlation with psychological well-being. The significant predictors of psychological well-being were found to include sleep hours (${\beta}=0.111$), working department (${\beta}=0.236$), and depression (${\beta}=-0.245$). Moreover, evaluation of the mediating effects of emotional intelligence revealed significant relationships between depression and regulation of emotion (${\beta}=0.527$) and between depression and emotional utilization (${\beta}=0.167$). In conclusion, the work environment and depression were predicted to be major factors influencing psychological well-being, while emotional intelligence was found to be a partially mediating factor. Overall, these results demonstrate that easing depression and improving emotional intelligence can be very positive countermeasures in revitalizing the hospital organization, as well as in ensuring the happiness of individual nurses. Therefore, interventions aimed at improving work environments and easing depression are required to improve nurses' psychological well-being.
