Efforts to reduce carbon dioxide(CO2) emissions are being carried out due to climate environmental problems. Eco-friendly ships are also being developed, and various energy saving measures have been developed and applied. In ships, researches have been conducted in various fields such as electric propulsion system and energy saving devices. In addition, the development of ships using various renewable energy, such as kite using wind power and wind power generation, has been carried out. This paper proposes a plan to use renewable energy for ships by applying wave generators to small ships. In 2016, 130 small domestic ships drifted by sea due to discharge of starting storage batteries, and discharge cases accounted for the largest portion of the causes of domestic ship accidents. This is due to the excessive use of storage batteries for starting the main engine by departing in a weak storage battery state for small ships. Accordingly, two type wave power generators - opened flow wave power generator and enclosed vibrator type wave power generator - are developed for charging a starting storage battery when the ships are stationary at sea or port. Opened flow wave power generator utilizes the flow of fluid in the ship by using wave induced ship motion. Enclosed vibrator type wave power generator utilizes the pendulum kinetic energy located in a ship due to wave induced ship motion.

Recently squirrel cage induction generator has been steadily applied to many small hydro power plants. Induction generator needs a reactive power for magnetization. The reactive power of induction generator is being supplied from the supply side mostly. The use of induction generators in the power distribution grid can affect the power factor. The power factor of induction generator is fixed already during production. The power factor in the distribution system is due to the increase or decrease of the load rather than due to the induction generator. In this study, we analyzed that how the increase or decrease of D/L load impacts at the change of power factor and power flow.

In this paper, the performance improvement and modeling of small onboard generator were described. As the characteristics of the field coil which are a major parameters of generator were improved, the system bandwidth could be increased, therefore the generator could also be satisfied with fast characteristic loads. Established the brief control model of the generator, it could be possible to do the analysis of generator performance, and improve the operational stability of the generator system using the control model.

The induction generator has many advantages compared to the synchronous generator in terms of cost and maintenance. So squirrel cage induction generator has been recently supplied in small hydroelectric power station. Squirrel cage induction generator generates a high inrush current at the grid-connection. This high inrush current causes a voltage drop on the grid. In order to increase the supply of the induction generator, it is very important to find the method of reducing inrush current and voltage drop.

The ELectromagnetic Core Imperfection Detector (EL-CID) test was performed on a small generator in the laboratory and a gas turbine generator in the field to assess the fault condition of generator stator core. Artificial defects with six different sizes were introduced in the small generator. The scan results on six defects show a very large increase in the magnitude of fault current compared to that obtained with a healthy core. After the stator core heats up, a thermal imaging camera was used to detect hot spot on the inner surface of the core for comparison. Several faults were found during inspection of the gas turbine generator with the EL-CID. It has been shown that the existence of a fault can be determined by monitoring the magnitude of fault current.
We present the design optimization of the magnetic pole and slot design options that minimize the cogging torque of permanent-magnet (PM) brushless generators for small wind turbine generators. Most small wind-turbines use direct-driven PM generators which have the characteristics of low speed and high efficiency. Small wind-turbines are usually self-starting and require very simple controls. The cogging torque is an inherent characteristic of PM generators, and is mainly caused by the generator's geometry. The inherent the cogging torque can cause problems during turbine start-up and cut-in in order to start softly and to run a power generator even when there is little wind power during turbine start-up. Thus, to improve the operation of small turbines, it is important to minimize the cogging torque. To determine the effects of the cogging torque reductions, we adjust the slot opening width, slot skewing, mounting method of magnets, magnet shape, and the opening and combinations of different numbers of slots per pole. Of these different methods, we combine the methods and optimized the design variables for the most significant design options affecting the cogging torque. Finally, we apply to the target design model and compare FEA simulation and measured results to validate the design optimization.
The once-through steam generator used in the small modular reactor needs to consider the stability of the outlet steam pressure and steam superheat of the secondary circuit to achieve better operating efficiency. For this reason, this paper designs a controllable operation scheme for the steam pressure and superheat of the small reactor once-through steam generator. On this basis, designs a variable universe fuzzy controller, first, design the fuzzy control rules to make the controller adjust the PI controller parameters according to the change of the error; secondly, use the domain adjustment factor to further subdivide the input and output domain of the fuzzy controller according to the change of the error, to improve the system control performance. The simulation results show that the operation scheme proposed in this paper have better system performance than the original scheme of the small reactor system, and controller proposed in this paper have better control performance than traditional PI controller and fuzzy PI controller, what's more, the designed control system also showed better anti-disturbance performance in lifting experiment between 100% and 80% working conditions. Finally, the experimental platform formed by connecting the digital small reactor with Matlab/Simulink through OPC(OLE for Process Control) communication technology also verified the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

In this paper a practical modelling methodology is presented for a series of aero- servo- elastic- coupled numerical analyses of small wind turbine operation, with particular emphasis on variable speed generator modelling in various wind speed conditions. The following characteristics are determined using the available computer tools: the tip speed ratio as a function of the generator constant (under the assumption of constant wind speed), the turbine coefficient of power as a function of the tip speed ratio (the torque curve is modified accordingly and generator speed and power curves are plotted), turbine power curves and coefficient of power curve as functions of the incoming wind speed. The last stage is to determine forces and torques acting on rotor blades and turbine tower for specific incoming wind speeds in order to examine the impact of the stall phenomena on these values (beyond the rated power of the turbine). It is shown that the obtained results demonstrate a valuable guideline for small wind turbines design process.
Squirrel cage induction motor is the main driving system of industrial field and familiar with its use in a large variety of applications. The structure and operating characteristics of induction generator is almost identical to induction motor, but the induction generator part is used restrictively from hydropower power and wind power development etc. Recently induction generator is commonly used for micro & small hydro power applications due to its simplicity, reliability, low cost and robustness. Input and output of induction motor has turned against at the induction generator operation. Rotation speed of induction generator is small faster than synchronous speed of induction motor. As output of induction machines increases with the increasement of speed, so loss is same. Actually, generator efficiency is lower than motor at this condition. If induction generator is connected with mechanical load such as increaser, total efficiency is decreased. Consequently the quality in compliance with an induction motor parameter applying like that in the generator is a possibility of having the error of some. In this paper, we analyzed that input, output, torque and efficiency of induction machine is different from each other above and below synchronous speed.
A high efficiency ozone generation using both of a electrode-edge discharge and a dielectric-harrier discharge from a modified silent type ozone generator has been proposed and studied for small scale applications. It is found that the output ozone concentration of the proposed generator depended greatly upon the air gap spacing and the applied power frequency and voltage on the ozone generation. The ozone generator showed higher ozone concentration than the same size of the ceramic type surface ozone generator(Masuda type one). And, it is found that the generator had a potential to be used as an ozone generator for small scale applications.
