Synthetic Aperture Radar is an active sensor utilizing the microwaves in order to get the requested high resolution imageries day or night regardless of the weather conditions. In this paper, the architecture of a real-time system controller for the airborne small SAR system, KOrea Miniature SAR which was developed by Agency for Defense Development is proposed considering the embedded real-time environment. The main purpose of the system controller is to control the internal and the rest of subsystem within SAR system in real-time. The main characteristics of the proposed system controller were implemented using the real-time operating system and the distributed hardware architecture for the small, low weight and real-time operation. The system controller performance and real-time operation were verified and confirmed by the demo flight with the KT-1 airplane.

The longitudinal stability characteristics of a Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft are quite different from that of the conventional airplane due to the existence of force and moment derivatives with regard to height. This stability characteristics plays a great role in designing a safe and efficient WIG due to its potential danger in sea surface proximity. The static and dynamic stability criteria are derived from the motion equations of WIG in the framework of small disturbance theory and discussed in the paper. The static and dynamic stability analyses of a 20-passenger WIG are conducted based on the wind tunnel test data and the dynamic motion behaviors are investigated for the change of the design parameters. Finally, the flying quality of the 20-passenger WIG is analysed at the cruising condition according to the military regulations.

Since many co-articulation problems are occurring in continuous spoken Korean language, several researches use words as a basic recognition unit. Though the word unit can solve this problem, it requires much memory and has difficulty fitting an input speech in a word list. In this paper, we propose an hidden Markov model(HMM) based recognition model that is an interconnection network of word HMMs for a syntax of sentences. To match suitably the input sentence into the continuous word list in the network, we use a level building search algorithm. This system represents the large sentence set with a relatively small memory and also has good extensibility. The experimental result of an airplane reservation system shows that it is proper method for a practical recognition system.

Compartment fire tests were performed using kerosene and Jet A-1 as fire sources to evaluate the relationship between flame temperature and opening size. The tests were performed for a fire caused by the release of kerosene owing to vehicle impact, and for a fire caused by the release of Jet-A-1 owing to airplane collision. The compartment fire tests were performed using a 1/3-scale model of a metal storage cask when the flame temperature was deemed to be the highest. We found the combustion time of Jet-A-1 to be shorter than that of kerosene, and consequently, the flame temperature of Jet-A-1 was measured to be higher than that of kerosene. When the opening was installed on the compartment roof, even though the area of the opening was small, the ventilation factor was large, resulting in a high flame temperature and long combustion. Therefore, the position of the opening is a crucial factor that affects the flame temperature. When the metal storage cask was stored in the compartment, the flame temperature decreased proportionally with the energy that the metal storage cask received from the flame.

In this research, the design optimization of a composite sandwich has been performed for using as an airplane wing skin. Automated analysis framework for aero-structure interaction is used for calculating load data on the wing. For automated analysis framework, FLUENT is used for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. CFD mesh is generated automatically by using parametric modeling of CATIA and GAMBIT. A computational structure mechanics (CSM) mesh is generated automatically by the parametric method of the CATIA and visual basic script of NASTRAN-FX. The structure is analyzed by ABAQUS. Composite sandwich optimization is performed by NASTRAN SOL200. Design variables are thicknesses of the sandwich core and composite skin panel plies. The objective is to minimize the weight of the wing and constraints are applied for wing tip displacement, global failure index and local failure indexes.

The efficiency and effectiveness of mission performance can be greatly changed according to the operating conditions such as the number of manned aircraft, flight altitude, and so on, in performing search and reconnaissance missions using a large number of small reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles. However, it is not easy to determine which operating conditions are most reasonable. Therefore, in this study, we developed an unmanned airplane flight simulation that can detect and identify the target while avoiding collision according to autonomous flight, suggesting a way to derive operating conditions when operating a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Technological advances have recently led to the development of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) which is a small airplane being able to take off and land vertically. It is emerging as an alternative to transportation services in the city in the future because of the advantage of providing speed and congestion problem in cities like taxis. This research aim to study the user's acceptance of UAM. Based on the survey conducted abroad, the analysis was carried out based on th Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), by Davis et al. (1989). According to the data analysis results of 292 people, Technology, Reliability and Price effect perceived usefulness, which in turn effects Behavioral intention. UAM cannot be operated independently by a single company. It consists of partnerships with vehicles, transport platforms, batteries and other related company. To improve acceptance of UAM, it is required that collaboration between companies and support from government. And while UAM is being developed, research on acceptance from user's point of view should continue.

Korea has been known as volcanic disaster free area. However, recent surveying result shows that Baekdu mountain located in northernmost in the Korean peninsula is not a dormant volcano anymore. When Baekdu mountain is erupting, various damages due to the volcanic ash are expected in South Korea area. Especially, volcanic ash in the air may cause big aviation accident because it can hurt engine or gauges in the airplane. Therefore, it is a crucial issue to interrupt airplane navigation, whose route is overlapped with volcanic ash, after predicting three dimensional dispersion of volcanic ash. In this paper, we deals with 3D visualization techniques for volcanic ash dispersion prediction results. First, we introduce the data acquisition of the volcanic ash dispersion prediction. Dispersion prediction data is obtained from Fall3D model, which is volcanic ash dispersion simulation program. Next, three 3D visualization techniques for volcanic ash dispersion prediction are proposed. Firstly proposed technique is so called 'Cube in the Air', which locates the semitransparent cubes having different color depends on its particle concentration. Second technique is a 'Cube in the Cube' which divide the cube in proportion to particle concentration and locates the small cubes. Last technique is 'Semitransparent Volcanic Ash Plane', which laminates the layer, whose grids present the particle concentration, and apply the semitransparent effect. Based on the proposed techniques, the user could 3D visualize the volcanic ash dispersion prediction results upon his own purposes.
The KC-100 has completed civil type certification with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and is currently under development as an unmanned aerial vehicle as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The Certification Technology of small Unmanned Airplane system (CTsUA system), which is an unmanned KC-100, is being developed to enable the installation of heavy-duty mission equipment and long-time flight missions. This study investigated the process and results of analyzing various parameters such as aircraft weight, airspeed, flight altitude, required horsepower, and fuel consumption at each stage to construct a mission profile based on the operational concept of the CTsUA system. To maintain a maximum take-off weight of 3,600 lbs (1,633 kg), the analysis determined that the weight of the application equipment for the unmanned system should be kept below 80 lbs (36 kg).

The aluminum honeycomb sandwich panel (AHSP) structure not only have high flexural rigidity and strength per density but also excellence in vibration and noise properties. The AHSP structure are very useful for railway, airplane and high speed ship which need lighter-weighted and more strengthened elements. In this paper, from comparison the AHSP with the equivalent aluminum single plate (EASP) structure on the result of analysis, it was shown that the AHSP is S times lighter weight to the same stiffness than the EASP. And the AHSP structure have high bending rigidity and small shear rigidity in the direction of the thickness. Also, to the characteristics of vibration for the AHSP and EASP, which the stiffness is larger than the EASP, are higher than EASP.
