The Influence of Traffic Time and Fertilizer Type on the Quality of Golf Course Putting Greens (답압시간과 비료종류가 골프코스 그린 잔디의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Traffic management is becoming an important issue in turfgrass practise on golf course. The objective of this study was to investigate the combined impact of different traffic times and types of fertilization. Traffic treatment was applied in morning (AM), noon, and afternoon (PM). Fertilizers used include faster-release fertilizer (21-17-17) and slow-release fertilizers (12-6-18, 11-3-22, 20-3-20, 10-3-10). Experiment was conducted from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, 2005 on a nursery putting green of Incheon Grand Golf Club. The growth and quality of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis polustris cv. 'Seaside II') were evaluated on visual leaf color, leaf texture, shoot density, and root length. The measurement at 20 days after treatment, turfgrass color and leaf texture showed the best result on 10-15-10 + Noon-traffic plot. Turf quality and traffic tolerance were not different at Am and Pm traffic treatment. However, traffic stress in early morning and late evening caused the most severe damage to the turfgrass. Shoot density was the highest in 10-15-10 + Noon-traffic treatment but root length was not different among treatments after 30 day measurement. Among the fertilizers, slow release fertilizer resulted in higher turf quality and traffic tolerance than fast release fertilizer, however, shoot density did not showed a significantly different. For the fast recuperation of turfgrass from traffic injury in the early winter, it is recommended to avoid early morning and late evening traffic such as cup replacement and other maintenance practise. It is also recommended to delay the first tee-up time and ending early for last tee time during cold weather season.

Effect of Latex Coated Urea on Growth and Yield in Rige Direct Dry Seeding for Water-saving Rice Culture (벼 휴립건답직파 절수재배시 완효성비료 효과)

  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of slow release fertilizer (LCU) on ridge direct seeding on dry paddy of rice as an irrigation water-saying cultural system. During 1999-2000, a series of experiments was carried out at field (Chonbuk series) of the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station, RDA using Dongjinbyeo. Plant height and culm length during the total growth duration were the longest and panicle umber per $m^2$ was the highest in 100% LCU application rate. Leaf area index and top dry weight were the highest in the 100% LCU application rate. They increased as more LCU was applied. Nitrogen uptake was the highest in 100% LCU application, and N use efficiency was the highest in LCU 60% + FP (fertilization at panicle formation stage) 20% application. Milled rice yield was 7% higher in 100% LCU application rate than that of conventional N application. Ripened grain rate and 1,000-grain weight of brown rice did not differ, but panicle number per $m^2$ and grain number per m2 were the highest at 100% LCU application.

Effect of Application Rate of a Slow-release Fertilizer in Three Media Containing Polyacrylic Acid Sodium Salt on Growth and Nutrient Contents of Potted Chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey' (Polyacrylic Acid Sodium Salt를 혼합한 세 종류 상토에 지효성 비료의 시비 수준이 포트-멈 'Lima Honey'의 생육과 무기원소 흡수에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective of this research was to determine the effect of application rate of a slow release fertilizer (SRF) in three root media, peatmoss+vermiculite (1:1, v/v; PV), peatmoss+composted rice hall (1:1, v/v; PR), and peatmoss+composted pine bark (1:1, v/v; PB), on growth and nutrient contents of potted chrysanthemum 'Lima Honey'. All media contained polyacrylic acid sodium salt at a rate of $4.5g L^{-1}$. The fresh and dry weights at 43 days after transplanting did not show statistical differences among treatments in each root media. Elevated application rate of SRF increased fresh and dry weights at 80 days after transplanting in PV and PB media, but not in PR medium. Elevated application rates of SRF resulted in the increase of tissue phosphorus content and decrease of tissue Ca, Na, and Zn contents at both 43 and 80 days after transplanting. Elevated application rates of SRF resulted in the decrease of pH and increase of EC and concentrations of ${NO_3}^-$ and ${P_2O_5}^{3-}$, K, Ca, and Mg in the soil solution of PV and PR media. The trends of those in PR media were also similar except ${NO_3}^-$. The differences among treatments in EC at 80 days after transplanting were less significant as compared to those at 43 days after transplanting in three media.

The Effect of Compound Fertilizer Contained Slow Release Nitrogen on Turfgrass Growth in Kentucky bluegrasss and on Nitrogen Change in Root Zone (완효성질소성분이 함유된 복합비료의 시비가 토양 중 질소함량 변화 및 켄터키블루그래스 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of compound fertilizer contained slow release nitrogen such as isobutylidene diurea(IBDU) and methylene urea(MU) on kentucky bluegrasss and the change of nitrogen in the root zone after supplying these at AM turfgrass research institute with soil analysis, chlorophyll content index, leaf area index and dry weight during 6 months from July to December in 2007 year. Fertilizer treatments were designed as following; non-fertilizer(NF), straight fertilizer(CF), methylene urea(MU), isobutylidene diurea(IBDU). The every treatments were arranged a randomized complete block with three replications. Results obtained were summarized as follows: As relative to time after N fertilizers application, ammonium and nitrate in soil were increased, but T-N was decrease. The change of ratio of available Nand T-N by elapsed time after fertilizing was decreased in CF from 30days but increased until 45days. Compared with NF, the turf color index in CF, MU and IBDU was increased 1.5%, 2.5% and 2.3%, respectively, the chlorophyll content 16%, 25% and 26%, the dry weight 31%, 62% and 46% and shoot number 104%, 185% and 148%. The chlorophyll content index of MU and IBDU was increased 7.5% and 8.8% than that of CF, shoot number 40% and 22%, and dry weight 24% and 12% but turf color index was similar to that of CF. These results showed that the MU and IBDU application was supplied nitrogen for a long time in root zone by increasing an available nitrogen, and so promote turf grass growth such as chlorophyll content and shoot number in kentucky bluegrass.

  • Two trial products of monogranular compound fertilizer for red pepper under vinyl mulching cultivatin were made using the principal sources of urea, diammonium phosphate and muriate of potash in combination with fillers of treated human wastes (product I) and zeolite (Product II). A field experiment was carried out to evaluate their effects on red pepper and the results obtained were as follows. Red pepper plant growth and total red fruit yields in the trial products of one time basal application were better and higher than those of NPK split application of contrl plot. The increases of yield in the trial products might be due to steady supply of nutrients for the entire growing period. Therefore, one time basal dressing of a developed monogranular compound fertilizer for red pepper was applicable under vinyl mulching cultivation.

Effects of 'Methylen Urea' Slow Released Fertilizer and 'T-Vigor' Microbial Fertilizer as Environmental Fertilizer on Growth of Creeping Bentgrass in Golf Course (친환경적 비료인 완효성 비료 'Methylen Urea' 및 미생물 비료 'T-Vigor' 처리가 골프장 그린의 크리핑 벤트크래스 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to figure out the effect of 'Methlyen Urea(MU)', slow released fertilizer and 'T-Vigor', microbial fertilizer as environment fertilizer on growth of 'Crenshaw' creeping bentgrass for environmental management in golf course. This study was conducted at No. 3, 4, 5 Valley Courses of Rexfield Country Club from April to July in 2004. MU, T-Vigor, sterilized T-Vigor were applied five times with 5g and 7.5ml per square meter, respectively. Polt size was 1 square meter and there were three replications with Completely Randomize Design. Collecting data were turf density$(No.\;of\;shoot\;/cm^2)$, chlorophyll $amount(\%)$, root length(cm), dry weight of clipping(g), and dry weight of root(g). The results are as follows; All of turf density, chlorophyll amount and dry weight(g) of MU and T-Vigor were better than control and sterilized T-Vigor. Especially root length of MU and T-Vigor was superior to control and sterilized T-Vigor, even if temperature and humidity was high. In conclusion, MU and T-Vigor might be used as slow release fertilizer for environmental green management in golf course.

Effects of Controlled Drainage and Slow-release Fertilizer on Nutrient Pollutant Loads from Paddy Fields (물꼬관리 및 완효성 비료 시비가 포장단위 논에서의 영양물질 배출부하량에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of farming methods on mass balance from paddy rice. The experiment fields were established at Chunpo-myeon, Iksan-si in the Saemangeum watershed. Experiment was performed during the growing season to assess water and mass balances of the study field in 2013. The three different farming practices were applied: conventional (TR-A), drainage outlet heighten (TR-B) and slow release fertilizer use (TR-C). Drainage amount from TR-B was reduced by 28.5 % compared to the TR-A, while the amount from TR-C was similar to that of TR-A. Overall, nutrient concentration of paddy water were similar among the treatments except for T-P. Mean T-P concentration from TR-C was lower than that from TR-A (p-value<0.05). As the results of mass balance, TR-B appeared to reduce nutrient surface loss, substantially by 30.9 % and 40.8 % for T-N and T-P an compared to TR-A. TR-C treatment also demonstrated nutrient load reduction by 38.2 % and 40.1 % for T-N and T-P. The study results showed that water and fertilizer treatments are effective in surface load reduction respectively from paddy fields, and, long-term monitoring and evaluation is needed to confirm the reduction.

The Environmental Effects of Agrochemical and Fertilizer Applied in Golf Courses in Korea (국내 골프 코스에서 시용되는 농약 및 비료의 환경적 영향)

  • This Study was carried out to investigate on the environmental effects of golf courses and to find a solution to the negative effects in Korea. The results were ai follows. 1. There were 152 golf courses opened in December 2000. 113 golf courses were member-ship and 39 golf courses were public. Users (golfer) were over 12,000,000 in 2000. 2. Total area of golf courses was 0.8% as compared with total area of farmland in 1999. Total amount of agricultural chemicals used in golf courses was 0.3% of total amount of agricultural chemicals used in Korea. The remaining amount of agricultural chemicals in golf courses tested were almost below the permitted limits. 3. Recently, total amount of fertilizers in green decreased 5~7g/$m^2$/year as compared with the recommended. 4. The control by antagonistic microorganisms and the fertilizing of the organic matter or the organic fertilizer were effective to decrease the amount of agricultural chemicals used. To success the control of microorganisms, active antagonistic microorganisms had to be applied over the recommended dose eve교day. Though fertilizing of organic fertilizer, slow release fertilizer, was effective to suppress dollar spot, necrotic ring spot. fungicides were required as a supplementary means when disease symptom was very heavy. 5. Zoysiagrass was fertilized intensively from May to August. Cool-season grasses were fertilized intensively from March to May and September to October. The fall fertilizing of Zoysiagrass was carried out to the begining of October. The fall fertilizing of cool-season grasses were carried out to the end of November or the begining of December. The fertilizing amount of Zoysiagrass was 10g/$m^2$/year. The fertilizing amount of bentgrass was 25~27g/$m^2$/year.

Properties and Application Effects of Imidacloprid Coated Urea (Imidacloprid 피복 요소 혼합제제의 특성 및 시용효과)

  • This study was conducted to develop labor-saving pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation through a single application of mixed formulation of an insecticide imidacloprid coated on a slow release urea. The release of both total nitrogen and imidacloprid into water was delayed with increasing adhesive.Imidacloprid was released out 95% within 24 hours, whereas total nitrogen released in mixed formulation until 40 days was released less extent by increasing adhesive. There was no difference between pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and coated urea thereafter. The content of $NH_4-N$ in the soil treated with pesticide and urea seperating was higher until 10 days but gradually decreased compare to that of pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation or coated urea. The population density of nitrate reducing bacteria and denitrifying bacteria in soil after treatment were lower in the pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and coated urea than those of pesticide and urea separate treatment. The residue of imidacloprid in soil was slightly higher in the treatment of pesticide alone than the pesticide-fertilizer mixed formulation and pesticide and urea seperating treatment. The population and control efficacy of small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus, were not significance different among treatments.

  • A series of studies on nitric-acid pulping of municipal recycled waste papers were carried out to substitute the bleached chemical pulp imported for producing printing paper as well as to use its solidified spent-liquor as fertilizer. The first experiment was carried out to find the optimum treatment conditions such as pulp consistency, nitric acid charge and temperature in $HNO_3$-alkali pulping process. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Some selective delignification of OCC pulp was conducted by $HNO_3$-alkali process. The higher the temperature and concentration of nitric acid, the lower the pulp yield and kappa number of treated pulp. while its brightness was increased. 2. The higher consistency required the stronger mixing in case of more than 5% pulp. 3. In the laboratory, the suitable $HNO_3$-treating condition seemed to be less than 6% consistency, lower than 500% $HNO_3$charge on pulp and lower than $100^{\circ}C$ in cooking temperature. 4. The spent liquor with 1.77% N-content seemed to be slow-release nitrogen fertilizer suitable for agriculture.
