An experimental investigation is conducted to improve a slot film cooling system which can be used for the cooling of gas turbine combustor liner. The tangential slots are constructed of discrete holes with different injection types which are the parallel, vertical, and combined to the slot lip. The investigation is focused on the coolant supply systems of normal-, parallel-, and counter-flow paths to the mainstream direction. A naphthalene sublimation technique has been employed to measure the local heat/mass transfer coefficients in a slot with various injection types and coolant feeding directions. The velocity distributions at the exit of slot lip for the parallel and vertical injection types are fairly uniform with mild periodical patterns with respect to the hole positions. However, the combined injection type increases the nonuniformity of flow distribution with the period equaling twice that of hole-to-hole pitch due to splitting and merging of the ejected flows. The secondary flow at the lip exit has uniform velocity distributions for the parallel and vertical injection types, which are similar to the results of a two-dimensional slot injection. In the results of local heat/mass transfer coefficient, the best cooling performance inside the slot is obtained with the vertical injection type among the three different injection types due to the effect of jet impingement. The lateral distributions of Sh with the parallel- and counter-flow paths are more uniform than the normal flow path. The averaged Sh with the injection holes are $2{\sim}5$ times higher than that of a smooth two-dimensional slot path.
Film cooling characteristics has been examined numerically for the height variation of a stepped slot exit. In this study, the upstream wall height of the stepped slot exit varies from -2d (d = slot width) to 3d, blowing ratio ranges from 0.5 to 3, and injection angles are $15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;and\;45^{\circ}$. The results showed that film cooling performance was mainly subjected to the magnitude of recirculation region near the downstream-side slot exit as well as the magnitude and the distribution region of turbulent kinetic energy due to the local velocity and momentum differences between the coolant and the main flow near the slot exit. The up-1d type slot at higher blowing ratios over 2 and the flat type slot at lower blowing ratios below 1 have the best film cooling performances, in case of the injection angles of $30^{\circ},\;and\;45^{\circ}$, respectively. Compared with the other injection angles, in case of the injection angles of $15^{\circ}$, the best film cooling performances was shown in even a higher upstream wall (up-3d) at higher blowing ratio like 3 by the gradual reduction of the coolant velocity which minimizes the local velocity differences between the coolant and the main flow near the slot exit.

Objective: To investigate and compare the slot sizes and parallelism of metal injection molding (MIM) and computerized numerical control (CNC) brackets. Methods: The following four MIM bracket series with 0.022-inch (in) slots were selected for investigation: Di MIM mini Twin (Ortho Organizers), Mini Diamond Roth (Ormco), Gemini MBT (3M Unitek), and Formula R Roth (Tomy). The following four CNC bracket series with 0.022-in slots were selected for investigation: Econoline MBT (Adenta), Legend mini MBT (GC Orthodontics), Crown mini MBT (Adenta), and Evolve MBT (DB Orthodontics). The slot dimensions were measured using an optical microscope (XTCam-D310M; Mitutoyo) with a resolution of 1 ㎛. The results were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey post-hoc test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results indicated that all the investigated slot sizes were oversized with respect to the manufacturers' specifications (0.022 in). Among the eight bracket series, the Di MIM bracket (MIM) was the most oversized by 10.4%, whereas the Evolve bracket (CNC) was the least oversized by 2.6%. The slots in seven of the bracket series had divergent walls instead of parallel ones. The Evolve bracket alone had parallel slot walls. Conclusions: Regardless of the manufacturing method, all the slot sizes of the brackets investigated in this study were significantly oversized; most of the slot walls were nonparallel, except for those of the Evolve bracket. This study could not establish that the CNC method was more accurate than the MIM method in manufacturing bracket slots.
Two-dimensional steady flowfields generated by slot injection into supersonic flow are numerically simulated by the integration of Navier-stokes equation with two-equation κ-turbulence model. High-order upwind scheme is used on unstructured adaptive meshes. The numerical results are compared with experimental data in terms of surface static pressure distributions, the length of the upstream separation region, and the height of the Mach surface for steady flowfields with a Mach number of 3.71 and a unit Reynolds number of 5.83×10/sup 6//m.
Film cooling characteristics has been investigated numerically with the aid of FLUENT software for the sunk or the lifted upstream wall from the slot injection exit. In this study, with the fixed blowing ratio of 1 and the fixed coolant injection angle of $30^{\circ}$, the downstream flow field and the downstream temperature field were examined in terms of velocity vector, turbulent kinetic energy, temperature contours, and downstream wall temperature. Upstream wall was sunk or lifted from 1d to 5d(d=slot width). The result shows that the up-Id upstream wall has the best film cooling performance. This is due to the fact that the up-1d upstream wall configuration reduces velocity gradient just enough to minimize the turbulent mixing between the mainstream and the coolant just off the slot exit.
The numerical research has been done for the transverse jet behind a rearward- facing step in turbulent supersonic flow without chemical reaction. The purpose of transverse jet is used to improve mixing of the fuel in the combustor. Two- dimensional unsteady flowfields generated by slot injection into supersonic flow are numerically simulated by the integration of Navier-Stokes equation with two-equation k - $\varepsilon$ turbulence model. Numerical methods are used high-order upwind TVD scheme. Eight cases are computed, comprising slot momentum flux ratios and slot position at downstream of the step. The flow is very similar to the cavity flow, because the jet is like an obstacle. Therefore, the numerical results show the periodic phenomenon.
A numerical study has been performed for the 2-dimensional film cooling employed in the cooling of hot components such as gas turbines. The flow and heat transfer characteristics are numerically simulated using FLUENT software. Blowing ratios vary from 0.25 to 5.0 and coolant injection angles vary from $15^{\circ}\;to\;60^{\circ}\;in\;15^{\circ}$ increment. The result shows that, for all cases, there exists a blowing ratio which maximizes film cooling effect (measured by the distance from the slot exit to the downstream wall location at which temperature increases to 900 K) for a given injection angle. It is also observed that the film cooling effectiveness decreases when downstream wall is sunk or lifted. The simulation has been performed using both constant properties and temperature dependent variable properties. It is found that the cases with constant properties overestimate the film cooling effect considerably.
N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)1-1' biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) hole-transporting layers were deposited using a continuous slot-die coating method on ITO/PET flexible substrates. It is crucial that the substrates have a very smooth surface with a RMS roughness of less than 2 nm for the deposition of semiconductor nanocrystals or Quantum Dots. The parameters of the slot-die coating, including the solution concentration of the TPD, the gap between the slot-die and the substrates, and the coating speed were controlled in these experiments. To obtain full coverage of the TPD films on the ITO/PET substrates (40 mm wide and several meters long), the injection rates of the TPD solution were increased proportional to the coating speed of the flexible substrates. Additionally, the injection rates must be increased as the gap distance changes from 400 to 600 ${\mu}m$ at the same coating speed. A RMS surface roughness of less than 2 nm was obtained, in contrast to bare ITO/PET substrates, at 13 nm, as the coating speed and gap distance increased.

The purpose of transverse jet behind rearward-facing step is to improve mixing of the fuel in the combustor. Two-dimensional unsteady flowfields generated by slot injection into supersonic flow are numerically simulated by integration of Navier-Stokes equation. Final-scale turbulence effects are modeled with two-equation $\kappa-\epsilon$ model. Numerical methods are modeled high-order upwind TVDschemes. A total of 4 cases are computed, comprising slot momentum flux ratios at four step heights downstream of the step. These numerical results are represented periodic phenomenon in unsteady flowfields.
