Low Level Control of Metal Belt CVT Considering Shift Dynamics and Ratio Valve On-Off Characteristics

  • In this paper, low level control algorithms of a metal belt CVT are suggested. A feedforward PID control algorithm is adopted for line pressure based on a steady state relationship between the input duty and the line pressure. Experimental results show that feedforward PID control of the line pressure guarantees a fast response while reducing the pressure undershoot which may result in belt slip. For ratio control, a fuzzy logic is suggested by considering the CVT shift dynamics and on-off characteristics of the ratio control valve. It is found from experimental results that a desired speed ratio can be achieved at steady state in spite of the fluctuating primary pressure. It is expected that the low level control algorithms for the line pressure and speed ratio suggested in this study can be implemented in a prototype CVT.

  • In this paper, AC electric vehicle propulsion system(Converter/Inverter) using high power semiconductor, UM(Intelligent Power module) is proposed. 2-Parallel operation of two PWM converter is adopted for increasing capacity of system and the VVVF inverter control is used a mixed control algorithm, where the vector control strategy at low speed region and slip-frequency control strategy at high speed region. The proposed propulsion system is verified by experimental results with a 1,350kW converter and 1,100kVA inverter with four 210kW traction motors.

  • The operating torque and tribological characteristics of the cam/tappet system in an I.C. engine have an important effect on engine efficiency. In this paper, we measured the torque of cam/tappet system with respect to the oil temperature and camshaft speed to characterize the tribological behavior. Also, accelerated test was performed to analyze the wear characteristics of cam/tappet interface. The torque of the cam/tappet system decreased with respect to camshaft speed and was not significantly affected by the oil temperature. The results of accelerated test showed that the running-in wear occurred during the tests and the center of the tappet was mainly damaged by the rolling and sliding friction.

  • In this paper, an automatic pipe-cutting machine that uses magnet to attach itself to pipe and performs unmanned cutting process is proposed. The machine uses magnetic force to prevent slip and to attach the machine to the pipe against gravity. The magnetic force is adjustable by changing the gap between the magnet and the pipe. During pipe cutting process, the gravity acting on the pipe-cutting machine widely varies nonlinearly where the gravity is function of climbing angle of the cutting machine along the pipe.   • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. Nowadays, position data inputs to pulse signal from wheel. Perfect position measurement was limited to slip and slide of vehicle. This measurement makes up for the weak points, Position Detection System using GPS develops. By using the system, Korean High Speed Train is capable of accurate fault position detection.

  • A operation scheme to regulate the active power output of the hybrid system consisted of a doubly fed induction generator(DFIG) and a fuel-cell are presented. The power output of the wind turbine fluctuates as the wind speed varies and the slip power between the rotor circuit and power converter varies as the rotor speed change. A fuel cell system can be individually operated and adjusted output power. In this paper, a fuel-cell is performed to regulate the active output power in comparison with the active power output of a DFIG. Based on PSCAD/EMTDC power system tools, we simulated a DFIG and a fuel cell and investigated about dynamics of the output power in hybrid system.

  • For shift quality improvement, torque sensors are currently too expensive to be used on production vehicles. To achieve smooth acceleration shift, the reference trajectory of the clutch slip speed for accomplishing the shift process within a designated shift completion time and its relationship with the clutch actuating torque were suggested by Jeong and Lee (1999). In order to facilitate the proposed algorithm, nonlinear estimators for necessary information such as the axle shaft torque, clutch friction and turbine torque were designed using only speed sensors. Accounting for the modeling error, a control law for this indirect smooth shift was proposed based on the above mentioned suggestions. Simulation results of the proposed estimators and shift controller were presented and further considerations for practical applications are discussed.

  • In variable speed wind power generating system connected in power grid, how to capture the maximum wind energy is most important thing Using the doubly fed induction machine as a generator in wind power generating system, it is possible to control the bidirectional slip power between grid and rotor side. This means that we can control the generating power under subsynchronous speed. To verify the theoretical analysis, computer simulation results using Psim program are presented to support the discussion.

  • Unlike conventional CT scan, the helical CT scan uses continuous rotating CT equipment with a slip ring to move the patient's coach at a constant speed while continuously scanning. Slice sensitivity profiles in the Z-position(SSPz) using the conventional X-ray CT have a shape similiar to a rectangular wave, which slightly spreads out into plains below the mountain. However, in the helical CT, with an expansion of the base, the rectangular shape collapses and a mouatain-like shape can be seen. We need to investigate the fellowing factors in helical CT scanning;the ability to scan along the axis of the body, effective slice width, slice shape and the precision of coach velocity, Helical scanning with sprial X-ray track is different from the conventional scanning in terms of the principle of image reconstruction performed. We believe that the problems in helical scanning can be solved by understanding new the special parameters such as the bed moving speed and the interval of image reconstruction.

  • We proposed the speed control of the SLIM(Single-sided Linear Induction Motor) for conveyance system by the decoupled thrust control. The voltage equations of SLIM are expressed on the suitable $\alpha-\beta$ axis by the proposed equivalent circuit, which can analyze the characteristics of the thrust and the normal force and so on. These control methods, which are the slip angular frequency control and the decoupling control for the thrust and normal force by analyzing these parameters can be successfully driven without interfering of each axis. These results exemplified the linear drive of SLIM with the reference value.
