The five punch and die sets are selected as the examples of arbitrary cross sections which have two opposite inclined sides. Two kinds of blank shapes are designed for all cross sections. One(h-b1.) is determined by slip-line theory and the other (G-b1.) is determined conventionally as the similar shapes with the cross sections which were used by Gopinathan. As a result of the experimental procedures, the superiority of the blank shapes designed by slip-line theory is verified in the limiting drawing ratio, the uniformity of cup height and the thickness distributions.

A basic procedure to design marine propellers by a curved lifting line theory was shown. By adapting discrete singularity method, it became possible to take into account of skew, rake and the contraction of slip stream in the early stage of preliminary design procedure. It is also shown that lifting line theory based on the discrete singularity method converges to a common solution obtained by induction factor method with a relatively small number of discrete elements. Lifting the blade geometry more accurately on the basis of hydrodynamic principles. A number of numerical results from lifting line calculation are presented for the purpose of comparison with the previous method, and with these results two sample designs are carried out, which are wake-adapted optimum and wake-adapted non-optimum propellers.

In this study, the plastic zone and internal earth pressure of the tunnel were calculated using the following three methods: metal plasticity to analyze the deformation of metal during plastic processing, Terzaghi's earth pressure theory from the geotechnical perspective and modified Terzaghi's earth pressure theory, and slip line theory using Mohr-Coulomb yield conditions. All three methods are two-dimensional mathematical analysis models for analyzing the plane strain conditions of isotropic materials. Using the theory of metallurgical plastics, the plastic zone and the internal earth pressure of the ground were obtained by assuming that the internal pressure acts on the tunnel, so different results were derived that did not match the actual tunnel site, where only gravity was applied. An analysis of the plasticity zone and earth pressure via the slip-line method showed that a failure line is formed in a log-spiral, which was found to be similar to the real failure line by comparing the results of previous studies. The earth pressure was calculated using a theoretical method. Terzaghi's earth pressure was calculated to be larger than the earth pressure considering the dilatancy effect.

The effects of punch and blank shapes in the rectangular cup drawing process are examined experimentally to improve the formabilities. For this purpose, three blank shapes which are h-bl., G-bl., and T-bl., and five punch shape factors which are the ratios of two adjacent side lengths in rectangular cross section are adopted. The constructing methods of the three blank shapes are as follows. The h-bl. is designed by slip-line theory, and the G-bl. is selected for the similar shape to the punch. The T-bl. is obtained by the drawing method which is introduced in the technical references. The five punch shape factors are selected for length/width=1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2. The experimental procedures are performed for all the above forming conditions to investigate and compare the formabilities. As a result, it is verified experimentally that the rectangular cups drawn by the h-bl. are more ideal than those drawn by G-bl. and T-bl.. They have not only higher limiting drawing ratio, more uniformity in drawn cup heights and more ideal thickness distributions, but also need relatively less maximum drawing forces.
In this paper we discussed in details how to determine the nature of dislocations in a crystal such as a Burgers vector, the line vector of dislocation and the associated slip plane, using LACBED and usual imaging techniques. These techniques basically involve the application of Cherns and Prestone s rules, the simulations of LACBED patterns with a certain form of the dynamical diffraction theory. The theoretical aspects including necessary approximations for calculations also were in details discussed. As a test specimen for experiments, the foils of a pure aluminum, containing many dislocations with appropriate density for LACBED experiments, were used..
The seismic failure-prone region in Istanbul has been examined in terms of the segmented pipelines. Although some researchers have suggested that this territory should be left as a green land, many people continue to live in this area. This region is about 9-10 km away from the North Anatolian Fault Line. This fault zone is an active right-lateral strike-slip fault line in Turkey and an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0-7.5 is expected in the Marmara Sea. Therefore, superstructures and infrastructures are under both land sliding risks and seismic risks in this area. Because there are not any pipeline-fault line intersection points in the region, in this study, it has been focused on the behaviors of the segmented (sewage or stormwater) pipelines subject to earthquake-induced permanent ground deformation and seismic wave propagation. Based on the elastic beam theory some necessary analyses have been carried out and obtained results of this approximation have been examined.
Microforming is a very efficient and economical technology to fabricate very small metallic parts in various applications. In order to extend the use of this forming technology for the production of microparts, the size effect, which occurs with the reduction of part size and affects the forming process significantly, must be thoroughly investigated. In this study, the tribological size effect in microforming was studied using modeling and scaled ring compression experiments. A micro-scale friction approach based on the slip-line field theory and lubricant pocket model was used to understand the friction mechanism and explain the tribological size effect. Ring compression tests were performed to analyze the interfacial friction condition from the deformation characteristics of the ring specimens. In addition, finite element analysis results were utilized to quantitatively determine the size-dependent frictional behavior of materials in various process conditions. By comparing theoretical results and experimental measurements for different size factors, the accuracy and reliability of the model were verified.
Lee and Kang measured side-necking deformation near a crack-tip for CT specimen using Stereoscopic Digital Speckle Photography and Digital Image Correlation. In this work the same technique was applied to SENB specimen. We happened to find that the deformation shape of the side-necking is similar to the one of plastic region estimated by McClictock using slip line theory. Based on volume constancy of plastic deformation as well as this finding, it is expected that a linear relationship holds between the volume of plastic deformation region and the one of side-necking upon the lateral surface of a specimen. To prove the idea, a preliminary study has been performed using 3-D finite element method on a model with modified boundary layer formulation. As the result, it is shown that the idea works well with acceptable error.
In order to use the limit equilibrium theory, it is necessary to find a slip line under the ultimate failure condition. The strength reduction method using the Lagrangian finite element method defines the ultimate failure state at a time when the numerical solution cannot converge within the certain number of the iteration. When the coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method is used, however, such definition is inappropriate because the numerical solution of the CEL method can converge even under the ultimate failure condition. In this study, an objective condition designating the ultimate failure state in the finite element analysis adopting the CEL method was proposed. In the problem of the bearing capacity of the undrained soft ground subjected to the strip footing loading, we found that the rate of the plastic dissipated energy is highly sensitive at the load of the theoretical limit of the ultimate failure state.
Generally, in a steel-concrete composite gilder, the shear connector which was constructed between concrete deck and steel girder should have enough stiffness to behave as one body, because the conformity between plate and concrete deck is influences by the stiffness and spacing of the shear connectors. If the stiffness of shear connectors are insufficient, slip would happen at the contact surface. Partial interaction is the case that takes account of slips. In this paper, an easy method is presented to evaluate the stiffness or spacing of the shear connector according to the degree of imperfection without difficult calculations for a composite gilder with partial interaction. Also, the horizontal shearing force applied to the shear connector and the longitudinal axial force, which is occurs at contact surface between concrete deck and steel girder, have been presented in a simple influence line that is various to the parameters of sectional properties, degree of imperfection and applied load points. Furthermore, through the case study, it determined the relationships between the degree of imperfection and the follows 1) spring constants 2) axial force and horizontal shearing force 3) stress and neutral axis by using the partial differential equation based on Newmark's Partial Interaction Theory.
