  • In a oo dam at oo city of Gyeongbuk, severe damages have been occurred on lower part of dam due to heavy rainfall for several years. This caused significant impediment for maintaining its original function. This is considered as an excellent case for overall improvement of stability of dam system through successful investigation and construction work. This paper present comprehensive specifications that are generalized and used for securing stability of dams by quoting this example.

  • Newmark's sliding block analysis is the most commonly used method for predicting earthquake-induced permanent displacement of embankment slopes. Additionally, it yields the amount of slip circle sliding using the limit equilibrium theory. Thus, permanent displacement does not occur until the seismic load exceeds the yield acceleration, which induces sliding of the slip circle. The evolution of Newmark's sliding block analysis has been made by introducing the numerical seismic response analysis results since it was introduced. This study compares seismic performance evaluation results for the example enclosure dam section with the analysis methods. As a result, earthquake-induced permanent displacement using Newmark's sliding block analysis did not occur for the enclosure dam, indicating a high safety factor. However, nonlinear response history analysis gave reasonable results.

  • Shear strength of soil is power that resists failure and sliding according to any face in soils and one of the most important factors during engineering properties of soil. Shear strength is used for engineering science problems as bearing capacity methods of foundation or piles, slope stability after dam or Cutting Embankment and stability problem analysis of soils as lateral earth pressure of soil structures, ets. This study has analyzed shear strength change of samples classified 2.00mm(10sieve)와 0.85mm(20sieve), 0.475mm(40sieve) using direct shear tester after removing and drying cohesive soil ingredient of Weathered granite soil Therefore, this study would help studies about shear strength properties by particle size.
