하이브리드 금속복합재료의 윤활마모특성 (Lubricated Wear Properties of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the lubricated wear properties of Saffil/Al, Saffil/$Al_2O_3/Al$ and Saffil/SiC/Al hybrid metal matrix composites fabricated by squeeze casting method. Wear tests were done on a pin-on-disk friction & wear tester with long sliding distance. The wear properties of the three composites were evaluated in many respects. The effects of Saffil, $Al_2O_3$ particles and SiC particles on the wear behavior of the composites under lubricated conditions were elucidated. Wear mechanisms were analyzed by observing the worn surfaces of the composites. The variation of coefficient of friction (COF) during the wear process was recorded by using a computer. Comparing with the dry sliding condition, all three composites showed excellent wear resistance when lubricated by liquid paraffin. Under intermediate load, Saffil/Al showed best wear resistance among them, and its COF value is the smallest. The dominant wear mechanism of the composites was microploughing, but microcracking also occurred for them to different extent.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate corrosive wear resistance of metals used for bearings and gears in seawater. Sliding wear test of ferrous and copper materials against $Al_2O_3$ were carried out in artificial seawater using an electrochemical potentiostat. As the results, the wear rate and the coefficient of friction of the copper materials are lower than those of the ferrous materials. The corrosive wear of stainless steel is remarkably affected by normal load and sliding speed in view of tribological characteristics including adhesion and corrosion products.

치과용 Titanium 주조합금의 마멸특성 (Wear Properties of Cast Titanium Alloys for Dental Use)

  • This study presents the wear characteristics of Ti alloys (Pure Ti, Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-5Al-2.5Sn) fabricated by centrifugal precision casting in an Ohara dental titanium casting machine. It was found that the hardness of the surface region is higher than that of the interior region. It is considered that the oxygen adsorption in the surface region during casting, leads to the interstitial solid solution hardening. Wear resistance incerases in the order of pure Ti, Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloys. The interior hardness value increases in the same order. The specific wear rate increases with applied load and increases monotonously with sliding speed. The Fe transfer from the counterpart material was observed on the worn surface of the Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloy. Oxidative wear occurs at low sliding speeds and mechanical fracture wear occurs at high sliding speeds.

침탄처리한 SCM420H의 미끄럼 마모 특성에 미치는 침탄 조건의 영향 (Effects of Carburizing Process on Sliding wear Behavior of Carburized SCM420H Steel)

  • The effects of the carburizing process on the sliding wear behavior of SCM420H steel have been investigated. In particular, the effects of grain boundary corrosion observed in the surface layer after gas carburizing and the effects of hardness of the carburized cases after heat-treatment on the sliding wear properties were examined. Pin specimens carburized by two methods (gas carburizing and vacuum carburizing) were tempered at two temperatures of 180℃ and 400℃ after oil-quenching, respectively. Sliding wear tests were carried out against heattreated SKH51 steel at several sliding speeds using a pin-on-disc type test machine. As results, it can be found that there is no difference in the wear behavior between the pins carburized using two methods. This implies that the grain boundary corrosion that formed in the surface layer after gas carburizing has no effect on the sliding wear behavior of carburized SCM420H steels. Additionally, there is no significant difference in the wear behavior between carburized pins tempered at 400℃ and at 180℃ after oil-quenching, regardless of the carburizing method. This is because carburized pins tempered at 400℃ have a troostite structure, which exhibits higher tribochemical reactivity even though its hardness is lower than that of martensite structure. In this respect, it can be considered that good wear resistance of carburized cases is maintained at least until the effective case depth.

마모 상대재 변화에 따른 TiN 극박막의 마찰 및 마모거동 (Friction and Wear Behavior of Ultra-Thin TiN Film during Sliding Wear against Alumina and Hardened Steel)

  • Reactive DC magnetron sputtering 법으로 AISI 304 스테인레스강 기판 위에 TiN 극박막을 50nm∼700nm 두께로 증착한 후, 경화된 AISI 52100 강과 알루미나를 마모 상대재로 하여 박막의 미끄럼마모 시험을 상온 대기 중에서 행하고, 마모 상대재에 따른 TiN 극박막의 마찰과 마모 거동을 연구하였다. AISI 52100 강구를 마모 상대재로 한 경우, TiN 박막은 200g 이하의 마모 하중과 0.035m/sec의 낮은 미끄럼 속도 조건에서 500nm 내외의 극박으로도 마찰계수가 0.1 내외로 유지되는 우수한 내마모성을 보였다. 이같이 우수한 내마모성은 AISI 52100 강으로부터 천이된 Fe가 산화되어 TiN 박막 표면에 Fe 산화층을 형성한 때문으로 설명되었다. 그러나, 마모 상대재를 알루미나 볼로 한 경우에는 TiN 박막 위에 산화층이 형성되지 않고, 마모가 거의 되지 않는 알루미나 볼과 박막층 사이에 국부적 응력집중 등이 발생하여 시험된 전 조건 하에서 박막층의 박리 현상이 관찰되었고 높은 마찰계수가 측정되었다. 또한 기판의 평균 표면조도, Ra가 박막의 두께와 유사할 때 마찰계수가 급격히 상승하는 현상이 관찰되었다.

  • The current study was conducted to elucidate the effect of cementite morphology and matrix-ferrite microstructure on sliding wear behavior in spheroidized high carbon (1wt. % C) steel. The high carbon steel was initially heat treated to obtain a full pearlite or a martensite microstructure before the spheroidization. The spheroidizing heat treatment was performed on the full pearlitic steel for 100 hours at 700℃ and tempering was performed on the martensitic steel for 3 hours at 650℃. A spheroidized cementite phase in a ferrite matrix was obtained for both the full pearlite and the martensite microstructures. Sliding wear tests were conducted using a pin-on-disk wear tester with the heat treated steel as the disk specimen. An alumina(Al2O3) ball was used as the pin counterpart during the test. After the spheroidizing heat treatment and the tempering, both pearlite and martensite exhibited similar microstructures of spheroidized cementite in a ferrite matrix. The spheroidized pearlite specimens had lower hardness than the tempered martensite; however, the wear resistance of the spheroidized pearlite was superior to that of the tempered martensite.

디젤엔진용 소결(W/C35%Ni) 태핏의 마멸거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Friction and Wear Characteristics of Sintered W/C-35%Ni Tappets for Diesel Engine Application)

  • Abstract- In this paper tribological characteristics of solid and liquid phase sintered W/C-35%Ni tappets were investigated. Three test methods were performed to investigate the wear and surface damage mechanism of sintered tappets. First, block-on-ring wear test was performed to investigate the wear characteristics under pure sliding condition. Second, simplified cam and tappet tests (called component wear test hereafter) were carried out to simulate the real contact history of cam and tappet. Also, after the test, contact surfaces were analyzed with scanning electron microscope to study the wear mechanism. As a final screening, engine dynamo tests were performed. Results showed that in the block on ring sliding wear test, solid phase sintered specimens showed superior wear resistance to liquid phase sintered specimens. The component wear tests and engine dynamo tests also showed the same results. Therefore, in these tests, solid phase sintered tappet material revealed superior wear resistant properties to liquid phase sintered one.

  • Boriding is one of the chemical methods to achieve the case hardening of steel as well as nitriding or carburizing. The surface layer of the borided steel shows higher hardness and exhibits better resistance to corrosion or fatigue than the nitrided or carburized steel. The great majority of previous studies were confined to mild steel or some alloy steel. To enlarge the application, ductile cast iron (DCI) as a material for boriding has been tried in this study. Thus, sliding wear test has conducted using a pin-on-disc machine to compare between borided DCI and mild steel in fluidized bed furnace. The results show that the wear resistance of borided DCI is improved. Especially it is more efficient in the case of occurence of the mechanical wear.

오스템퍼링한 구상점연주철의 부식환경중의 마멸특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Wear Characteristics of Austempered Ductile Cast Iron in Corrosive Environments)

  • This paper is studied to know corrowive wear characteristics of austempered ductile cast ironin corrosive environments against mating SM45C hardened two test pieces in distilled water and NaCl aqueous solution. The corrosive wear mechanism was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and retained austenite volume fraction was investigated by X-ray diffractometer. The experimental result show that the corrosive wear characteristics depend largely on the $\textrm{Fe(OH)}_{3}$which is influenced by the critical sliding distance $L_{cr}$ and $L_{cr}$ shorted with increasing NaCl concentration. It was found that the carbides in matrix have a significant effect on their corrosive wear resisance and the fine acicular bainite showed corrosive wear resistance stronger than that of the coarse acicular and platelet bainite. From above results the model of corrosive wear mechanism in corrosive environments is proposed.
