As the key part in the reinforced concrete column-steel beam (RCS) frame, the beam-column joints are usually subjected the axial force, shear force and bending moment under seismic actions. With the aim to study the seismic behavior of RCS joints with and without RC slab, the quasi-static cyclic tests results, including hysteretic curves, slab crack development, failure mode, strain distributions, etc. were discussed in detail. It is shown that the composite action between steel beam and RC slab can significantly enhance the initial stiffness and loading capacity, but lead to a changing of the failure mode from beam flexural failure to the joint shear failure. Based on the analysis of shear failure mechanism, the calculation formula accounting for the influence of RC slab was proposed to estimate shear strength of RCS joint. In addition, the finite element model (FEM) was developed by ABAQUS and a series of parametric analysis model with RC slab was conducted to investigate the influence of the face plates thickness, slab reinforcement diameter, beam web strength and inner concrete strength on the shear strength of joints. Finally, the proposed formula in this paper is verified by the experiment and FEM parametric analysis results.
Compared to a full three dimensional FEM, the Slab-FEM hybrid method reduces the required computation time distinctly and it can be applied to the analysis of a shape rolling process. However, the method is somewhat approximate and predictions by the method contain certain inaccuracies. In the present investigation a parameter called T-factor was introduced to compensate the inaccuracies of the method and proper values of the parameter were estimated for different widths of bars and reduction ratios. Then, the method was applied to analyze cold and hot rollings of rectangular bars and predicted results were compared to those of experiments. Nonuniform distributions of temperature in the bars were predicted by utilizing the temperature equation obtained for a semi-infinite solid under radiation and convection boundary conditions. It was found out that accuracies of spread and roll separating force predictions could be enhanced by using proper values of the T-factor.
Many different types of floating slab track have been developed and installed around the world to reduce vibrations and noise originating in the surrounding environment. The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of slab length on behavior of floating slab track based on rail-slab-isolator interaction. The floating slab track is modeled by the connection between rail, slab, isolator, and slab mat in the transition zone. All elements were assembled in a simplified two-dimensional (2D) finite element model (FEM). The maximum length of FST is then investigated based on the maximum additional rail stress criterion as described in UIC 774-3R since no fully accepted design criteria for the slab length in FST systems currently exist.
Attempts have been applied to reduce the vibration of slab. There are several method in the vibration control of slab from a traditional method such as increment of mass or stiffness of slab to a innovative method augmenting damping of slab. In this study, a attempt has been made to increase the effective damping in slab using the viscoelastic dampers made of viscoelastic material. The dampers are installed in a gab between slab and a beam. It is assumed that the stiffness of the beam is infinity for simplicity of the evaluation. we evaluate the reduction effect of the slab selected through numerical simulation and optimization process by applying it to a FEM model. The numerical simulation shows that the effective damping is increased as the number of bean is increased and the vibration control effect is very high.

Three-dimensional finite-element-based numerical model of turbulent flow, heat transfer, macroscopic solidification and inclusion trajectory in a continuos steel slab caster was developed Turbulence was incorporated using the Improved Low-Re turbulence model with positive preserving approach. The mushy region was modeled as the porous media with average effective viscosity. A series of simulations was carried out to investigate the effects of the casting speed, the slab size, the delivered superheat the immersion depth of the SEN on the transport phenomena. In the absence of any known experimental data related to velocity profiles, the numerical predictions of the solidified profile on a caster was compared with breakouts data and a good agreement was found.
If the time-temperature indicator (TTI) experienced a different temperature than the accompanied packaged food, influenced by heat transfer between the TTI, package, and ambient air, TTI would incorrectly predict the food quality changes with temperature. Temperature distributions of a finite slab with different sizes, representing beef packaged with TTI, were estimated by the finite element method (FEM). The thermal properties of the beef and TTI, such as heat capacity, density, and heat conductivity, were estimated from the relevant equations using their chemical compositions. The FEM simulations were performed for three cases: different locations of TTIs on the beef, different thicknesses of beef, and non-isothermal conditions of ambient air. The TTIs were mounted in four different locations on the beef. There was little difference in temperature between four locations of the TTI on the package surface. As the thickness of the slab increased, the temperature of the TTI changed faster, followed by the corner surface, as well as middle and bottom parts, indicating the possible error for temperature agreement between the TTI and the slab. Consequently, it was found that any place on the package could be selected for TTI attachment, but the package size should carefully be determined within a tolerable error of temperature.
It is proposed to analyze the vibration of slab with MTMD and vibration-induced noise. Substructure synthesis is introduced to develope the interaction between the slab and MTMD which are defined in different space and acoustic power is obtained from the velocity field of slab. Numerical analysis is performed to show that the vibration and noise of slab can be reduced by MTMD. A living room of wall type apartment including the wall and MTMD is modeled and analyzed by FEM program Numerical analysis shows that the vibration and noise control effect is different depending on the location and mass ratio of MTMD. Futhermore, noise is more effectively reduced when the vibration of higher modes of slab are reduced rather than lower modes.
