We use simulations of large-scale structure formation to study the build-up of magnetic fields (MFs) in the intergalactic medium. Our basic assumption is that cosmological MFs grow in a magnetohy-drodynamical (MHD) amplification process driven by structure formation out of a magnetic seed field present at high redshift. This approach is motivated by previous simulations of the MFs in galaxy clusters which, under the same hypothesis that we adopt here, succeeded in reproducing Faraday rotation measurements (RMs) in clusters of galaxies. Our ACDM initial conditions for the dark matter density fluctuations have been statistically constrained by the observed large-scale density field within a sphere of 110 Mpc around the Milky Way, based on the IRAS 1.2-Jy all-sky redshift survey. As a result, the positions and masses of prominent galaxy clusters in our simulation coincide closely with their real counterparts in the Local Universe. We find excellent agreement between RMs of our simulated galaxy clusters and observational data. The improved numerical resolution of our simulations compared to previous work also allows us to study the MF in large-scale filaments, sheets and voids. By tracing the propagation of ultra high energy (UHE) protons in the simulated MF we construct full-sky maps of expected deflection angles of protons with arrival energies $E = 10^{20}\;eV$ and $4 {\times} 10^{19}\;eV$, respectively. Accounting only for the structures within 110 Mpc, we find that strong deflections are only produced if UHE protons cross galaxy clusters. The total area on the sky covered by these structures is however very small. Over still larger distances, multiple crossings of sheets and filaments may give rise to noticeable deflections over a significant fraction of the sky; the exact amount and angular distribution depends on the model adopted for the magnetic seed field. Based on our results we argue that over a large fraction of the sky the deflections are likely to remain smaller than the present experimental angular sensitivity. Therefore, we conclude that forthcoming air shower experiments should be able to locate sources of UHE protons and shed more light on the nature of cosmological MFs.
Solar irradiation controls the exchange of heat energy between atmosphere and land or ocean, and becomes an important factors to the radiance flux at the surface and the biosphere. In order to estimate solar irradiance and earth albedo In Korea peninsula during 1996, GMS date and paramaterization model was combinationally used. In clear sky, the paramaterization model was used to estimate solar iradiance. Also in cloudy sky, the earth albedo was used to calculate the Interceptive effect of solar irradiance. The hourly solar irradiance [the hourly earth albedo] showed generally very low values with <1.00 MJ/m$^2$hr [high values with >0.65] on the middle part (36.00-36.50$^{\circ}$S) and the Southeastern part (near 34.50$^{\circ}$S) in Korea peninsula, respectively. Satellite estimates (GMS data) with pyramometer measurements (in-situ data) were compared for 21 observed stations. Totally, correlation coefficient showed high values with 0.85. In the monthly variation, correlation coefficient of the spring and summer with rms=about 0.42 MJ/m$^2$hr was better than the autumn and winter with rms >0.5 MJ/m$^2$hr. Generally monthly variations of correlation coefficient between satellite estimetes and pyranometer measurements showed r=0.936 in clear sky during 1 year except only May, June, July and August.
This study was to analyze the change in albedo by level-2 land cover map for 20 years(2002-2021) using MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data. Also, the difference from the MODIS data was analyzed using the 10-year (2012-2021) data of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). For the albedo data of MODIS and VIIRS, daily albedo data, MCD43A3 and VNP43IA, of 500 m spatial resolution of sinusoidal tile grid produced by Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) model were prepared for the South Korea range. Reprojection was performed using the code written based on Python 3.9, and the nearest neighbor was applied as the resampling method. White sky albedo and black sky albedo of shortwave were used for analysis. As a result of 20-year albedo analysis using MODIS data, the albedo tends to rise in all land use. Compared to the 2000s (2002-2011), the average albedo of the 2010s (2012-2021) showed the most significant increase of 0.0027 in the forest area, followed by the grass increase of 0.0024. As a result of comparing the albedo of VIIRS and MODIS, it was found that the albedo of VIIRS was larger from 0.001 to 0.1, which was considered to be due to differences in the surface reflectivity according to the time of image capture and sensor characteristics.
A vicarious calibration method was developed for the OSMI sensor calibration. Employing measured aerosol optical thickness by a sunphotometer and a sky radiometer and water leaving radiance by ship measurements as inputs, TOA (top of the atmosphere) radiance at each OSMI band was simulated in conjunction with a radiative transfer model (Rstar5b) by Nakajima and Tanaka (1988). As a case of examining the accuracy of this method, we simulated TOA radiance based on water leaving radiance measured at NASA/MOBY site and aerosol optical thickness estimated nearby at Lanai, and compared simulated results with SeaWiFS-estimated TOA radiances. The difference falls within about $\pm$5%, suggesting that OMSI sensor can be calibrated with the suggested accuracy. In order to apply this method for the OSMI sensor calibration, ground-based sun photometry and ship measurements were carried out off the east coast of Korean peninsula on May 31, 2000. Simulations of TOA radiance by using these measured data as input to the radiative transfer model show that there are substantial differences between simulated and OSMI-estimated radiances. Such a discrepancy appears to be mainly due to the cloud contamination because satellite image indicates optically thin clouds over the experimental area. Nevertheless results suggest that sensor calibration can be achieved within 5% uncertainty range if there are ground-based measurements of aerosol optical thickness, and water leaving radiances under clear-sky and optically thin atmospheric conditions.
An earthquake occurred on 17 November 2017 in Pohang, South Korea with a strength of 5.4 Mw. This is the second strongest earthquake recorded by local authorities since the equipment was first installed. In order to improve understanding of earthquakes and surface deformation, many studies have been conducted according to these phenomena. In this research, we will estimate the surface deformation using the Okada model equation. The SAR images of three satellites with different wavelengths (ALOS-2, Cosmo SkyMed and Sentinel-1) were used to produce the interferogram pairs. The interferogram is used as a reference for surface deformation changes by using Okada to determine the source of surface deformation that occurs during an earthquake. The Non-linear optimization (Levemberg-Marquadrt algorithm) and Monte Carlo restart was applied to optimize the fault parameter on modeling process. Based on the modeling results of each satellite data, the fault geometry is ~6 km length, ~2 km width and ~5 km depth. The root mean square error values in the surface deformation model results for Sentinel, CSK and ALOS are 0.37 cm, 0.79 cm and 1.47 cm, respectively. Furthermore, the results of this modeling can be used as learning material in understanding about seismic activity to minimize the impacts that arise in the future.
In this study, the oceanic Total Precipitable Water (TPW) retrieval algorithm at 16 km altitude of High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (HALE UAV) is described. Empirical equation based on Wentz method (1995) that uses the 18.7 and 22.235 GHz channels is developed using the simulated brightness temperature and SeeBor training dataset. To do radiative simulation, Satellite Data Simulator Unit (SDSU) Radiative Transfer Model (RTM) is used. The data of 60% (523) and 40% (349) in the SeeBor training dataset are used to develop and validate the TPW retrieval algorithm, respectively. The range of coefficients for the TPW retrieval at the altitude of 3~18 km with 3 km interval were 153.69~199.87 (${\alpha}$), 54.330~58.468 (${\beta}$), and 84.519~93.484 (${\gamma}$). The bias and RMSE at each altitude were found to be about $-0.81kg\;m^{-2}$ and $2.17kg\;m^{-2}$, respectively. Correlation coefficients were more than 0.9. Radiosonde observation has been generally operated over land. To validate the accuracy of the oceanic TPW retrieval algorithm, observation data from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Gisang 1 research vessel about six clear sky cases representing spring, autumn, and summer season is used. Difference between retrieved and observed TPW at 16 km altitude were in the range of $0.53{\sim}1.87kg\;m^{-2}$, which is reasonable for most applications. Difference in TPW between retrieval and observation at each altitude (3~15 km) is also presented. Differences of TPW at altitudes more than 6 km were $0.3{\sim}1.9kg\;m^{-2}$. Retrieved TPW at 3 km altitude was smaller than upper level with a difference of $-0.25{\sim}0.75kg\;m^{-2}$ compared to the observed TPW.

Absolute radiometric calibration is a crucial process in converting the electromagnetic signals obtained from satellite sensors into physical quantities. It is performed to enhance the accuracy of satellite data, facilitate comparison and integration with other satellite datasets, and address changes in sensor characteristics over time or due to environmental conditions. In this study, field campaigns were conducted to perform vicarious calibration for the multispectral channels of the CAS500-1. Two valid field observations were obtained under clear-sky conditions, and the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) radiance was simulated using the MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission 6 (MODTRAN 6) radiative transfer model. While a linear relationship was observed between the simulated TOA radiance of tarps and CAS500-1 digital numbers(DN), challenges such as a wide field of view and saturation in CAS500-1 imagery suggest the need for future refinement of the calibration coefficients. Nevertheless, this study represents the first attempt at absolute radiometric calibration for CAS500-1. Despite the challenges, it provides valuable insights for future research aiming to determine reliable coefficients for enhanced accuracy in CAS500-1's absolute radiometric calibration.
In This paper examines how "Kamishibai" was used for ideological education of children during the war. "Kamishibai" was proposed by the Ministry of Education as a methodology to "cultivate children's right concentricity. In particular, , which was produced based on a true story, highlights the father's love sent to children by obtaining chocolate wrappers from comrades, and the children's envy for chocolate. Kazuo's interview, saying, "I will succeed my father," showed that he has a continuous personality that comes with another sacrifice. After the Sino-Japanese War, the war situation intensified, and in 1940, a new edict decided to enact the "Army Support Corps". This is a measure to select eligible youth applicants from 15 to 17 years of age, after training for 4 years, and then appoint them to aviation soldiers and sergeants. This is a legal maintenance that can be put into the battlefield at any time according to the trend of the war. Just as Kazuo, a real character in "Chocolate and Soldiers", also became a "boy flight soldier" after his father's death, flying airplanes to boys at the time was also a dream that Japan's great citizens should have. In the , it is suggested that "the father enshrined in Yasukuni" is a great person, and that "I" will also grow and become a "good citizen". In particular, the two brothers in the work show the value of eternal sacrifices in Yasukuni as a typical model of the "great people".

This study analyzed the impact of urban spatial factors on the thermal environment. The personal thermal sensation was set as the unit of thermal environment to analyze its correlation with environmental factors. To collect data on personal thermal sensation, Living Lab was applied, allowing citizens to record their thermal sensation and measure the temperature. Based on the input points of the collected personal thermal sensation, nearby urban spatial elements were collected to build a dataset for statistical analysis. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to analyze the impact of each factor on personal thermal sensation. The analysis results indicate that the temperature is influenced by the surrounding spatial environment, showing a negative correlation with building height, greenery rate, and road rate, and a positive correlation with sky view factor. Furthermore, the road rate, sky view factor, and greenery rate, in that order, had a strong impact on perceived heat. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic data for assessing the thermal environment to prepare local thermal environment measures in response to climate change.
Clouds are composed of tiny water droplets, ice crystals, or mixtures suspended in the atmosphere and cover about two-thirds of the Earth's surface. Cloud detection in satellite images is a very difficult task to separate clouds and non-cloud areas because of similar reflectance characteristics to some other ground objects or the ground surface. In contrast to thick clouds, which have distinct characteristics, thin transparent clouds have weak contrast between clouds and background in satellite images and appear mixed with the ground surface. In order to overcome the limitations of transparent clouds in cloud detection, this study conducted cloud detection focusing on transparent clouds using machine learning techniques (Random Forest [RF], Convolutional Neural Networks [CNN]). As reference data, Cloud Mask and Cirrus Mask were used in MOD35 data provided by MOderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and the pixel ratio of training data was configured to be about 1:1:1 for clouds, transparent clouds, and clear sky for model training considering transparent cloud pixels. As a result of the qualitative comparison of the study, bothRF and CNN successfully detected various types of clouds, including transparent clouds, and in the case of RF+CNN, which mixed the results of the RF model and the CNN model, the cloud detection was well performed, and was confirmed that the limitations of the model were improved. As a quantitative result of the study, the overall accuracy (OA) value of RF was 92%, CNN showed 94.11%, and RF+CNN showed 94.29% accuracy.
