Aging of the face is mainly related to the features that are sagging or loss of elasticity of the skin by reducing the volume around the eyes or cheek. Intrinsic aging can be seen to cause thinner dermis, reduction of extracellular matrix and subcutaneous fat. This study was carried out to investigate the skin volume augmentation and anti-wrinkle effects of Tribulus terrestris fruit extract. Skin anti-aging effect of Tribulus terrestris fruit extract was evaluated by using lipid accumulation, expressin of type I procollagen and elastin in preadipocytes and human dermal fibroblasts. Tribulus terrestris fruit extract augmented preadipocytes differentiation about 56% at 100 µg/mL. The type I procollagen and elastin were increased about 35% and 25% by treatment 20% Tribulus terrestris fruit extract, respectively. The clinical study also showed that skin sagging, skin elasticity, and dermal density improved without adverse effect following 4 week application of cream containing 2% Tribulus terrestris fruit extract. We suggest that Tribulus terrestris fruit extract can have the good possibility as skin volume augmenting, skin elasticity and wrinkle improving agent.

The evaluation for the visage volume was performed with human and dummy face using PRIMOS $body^{(R)}$. Three researchers measured the dummy face attached different volume of clay (6.6 mL, 13.2 mL, and 19.8 mL). It is identified that the high correlation between measured values and real volume ($R^2=0.99$). The percent (%) of relative standard deviation (RSD) of the data was shown below 10%. In Gage R&R analysis, the percent of contribution, the percent of study variation and distinct categories values were 0.78%, 8.85%, and 15% respectively. Therefore this method was regarded as the good standard condition in aspect of reproducibility and repetitiveness of data. The face volume variation was measured by PRIMOS $body^{(R)}$ on the face in participated 10 healthy Korean women volunteers. Subjects used the product once a day for two weeks as night sleeping pack. After application of the test products, the 3D image data of face were taken 1 and 2 weeks later. We found the face volume was significantly decreased after using products. In conclusion, this novel non-invasive technique was useful in measuring and visualizing alterations in face volume as a consequence of certain treatments. This system will provide a rapid and precise analysis of 3D topographical information for face.

From previous studies, there is a strong possibility in buffaloes that the marked increase in blood volume (BV) under hot conditions contributes to heat transportation from the rectum to the skin. The present study was done to clarify changes with environmental temperature on water-shift between blood and extracellular fluid (ECF), heat distribution between the rectum and the skin, and blood flow rates (BFR) at the hind legs (reflecting the skin surface). Four buffaloes and four Friesian cows were successively exposed to three different temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$. BV and ECF volume were measured with Evans' blue and sodium-thiocyanate dilution methods, respectively. Rectal and subcutaneous (as the skin) temperatures were measured by copper-constantan thermocouples. BFR were measured by a supersonic blood flow meter. With an increase in environmental temperature, skin temperature in buffaloes increased significantly than cows, but rectal temperature was not significantly different between two species. BV, especially plasma compartment, increased significantly in only buffaloes, while ECF volume did not change in both species. BFR increased significantly in buffaloes, but not in cows. From these results, the increased of BV may be caused by water flowing from ECF compartment. The water-shift may induce the increase of BFR and skin temperature. It is suggested in the present study that internal changes of blood compartment in buffaloes contribute to transfer of heat to the skin surface.
This paper proposes a method of noninvasive reflectance light to measure the blood fractional volume (Vb) and oxygen saturation ($SO_2$) of biological tissue. We chose the red light of 660nm and infrared light of 880nm. In Vivo reflectance data were obtained by the physiological changes front the surface of the skin over the calf in human subject. The reflected light intensity from different layers within a biological tissue was measured by specially designed reflectometer to apply photon path diffusion model. The collected data represent the changes of blood (ractional volume and oxygen saturation at each reflected light wavelengths. The data evaluation was assessed by examining the slopes of the plotted indices for the changes in oxygen saturation and blood (ractional volume. The results presented in this paper claim that light reflectance can separately discriminate the change of blood volume and that of oxygenation in muscle and also in skin.

This study was to research the actual condition of a dropworts working environment and to develope the clothing to reduce the work road. The actual conditions of working environment, working position and clothing were surveyed. Experiments were performed in the chamber and in the field. In the chamber, rectal temperature, 11 points skin temperatures(forehead, chest, abdomen, upperarm, forearm, dorsum manus, palm, thigh, calf, dorsum pedis and pelma), heart rates, microclimates inside clothing on the chest and subjective sensations were measured for comparing between 2 different types o garments. In the field, rectal temperature, abodomen skin temperature, 3 points microclimates inside clothing(chest, back and thigh), heart rates, the volume of EMG and subjective sensations were measured. The results were as follows; 1. There were no significant differences in rectal temperature between a old type protective clothing and a new type both in the chamber and the field. 2. Subjects wearing a old type clothing responded \"a little cold\", \"a little uncomfortable\" and subjects wearing a new type protective clothing responded \"normal\", \"comfortable\" both in the chamber and the field. 3. In the field test results, abodemen skin temperature in a old type clothing was higher and microtemperatures inside clothing of chest, back and thigh in a new type protective clothing were higher. 4. The volume of EMG was lower in the new type protective clothing than in the old one.protective clothing than in the old one.
Ethinylestradiol (EE)-containing matrix was fabricated with ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA) copolymer to control the release of the drug, Effect of addition of PEG 400 as receptor solution, the stripping of skin and Azone pretreatment on skin on the permeation of EE through the excised mouse skin was also studied. The permeation rate of EE through the excised mouse skin was affected by the PEG 400 volume fraction. The Azone pretreatment on skin didn't affect on the steady state flux, however, the lag time was shortened. The permeation rate of EE through the stripped skin was much larger than that through the whole skin. It showed that the stratum corneum acts as a barrier of skin permeation. The fact that there is little difference in EE permeation between the intact skin and the stripped skin with EVA membrane shows the permeation of EE through the mouse skin is mainly controlled by the membrane.
DA-5018, a recently synthesized capsaicin analog, appears to possess potent analgesic activity when administered topically. The objective of this study is to test the feasibility of the topical administration of this compound. Specifically, our goal was to identify vehicle system that permit a reasonable transdermal permeation of the compound in mice. Among the vehicles examined, isopropyl myristate (IPM) showed the largest in vitro permeability across the intact skin (83.6 ${\pm}$ 5.42${\mu}$l/$\textrm{cm}^2$/h ). However, due to the limited solubility of DA-5018 in IPM (0.53 mg/ml), the maximal flux from the IPM medium remained at only 44.3 ${\pm}2.87{\mu}$g/$\textrm{cm}^2$/hr. In order to increase the flux, addition of better solvents for DA-5018 was attempted, under the assumption that flux is the result of both solubility and permeability. Ethoxydiglycol (EG) and oleic acid (OA) were selected as examples of food solvents. The addition of IC or OA to IPM at a 1:1 volume ratio resulted in a comparable increase in the solubility of the compound (i.e., to 61.1 and 50.2 mg/ml for EG and OA, respectively). However, the addition of EG at a 1:1 volume ratio, for example, increased the flux 6.3 fold (i.e., $279{\mu}$g/$\textrm{cm}^2$/hr), while OA, at a 1:1 volume ratio, decreased the flux 5 fold (i.e., $9.26{\mu}$g/$\textrm{cm}^2$//hr). The mechanism of this discrepancy between EG and OA was investigated by measuring the permeabilty of DA-5018 across the stratum corneum-removed skin of the mouse, under the hypothesis that the viable skin layer may serve as a barrier for the permeation of lipophilic substances such as DA 5018. The permeability of DA-5018, from the medium of EG or OA, across the viable skin differed greatly for EG ($0.41{\mu}$l/$\textrm{cm}^2$/hr) and OA ($0.086{\mu}$l/$\textrm{cm}^2$/hr), suggesting that a higher permeability across the viable skin layer is needed for the second solvents. The maximum flux across the intact skin was achieved for DA-5018 when EG was added to IPM at a 1:1 volume ratio. Thus, the use of a binary system appears to be the best approach for realizing the transdermal delivery of DA-5018 at a reasonable rate.
This paper is the study of the reflectance of light from biological tissue for red and Infrared wavelengths and relates the acquired reflectance data to expected physiological changes within the skin and muscle layers associated with heat and exercise. The instrument was disigned to collect data from the calf muscle in human subjects with probe located at the surface of skin. Rapid data acquisition method allowed monitoring of rapid changes in reflecttance due to a stimulus. This study demonstrates that changes in O2 saturation and blood fractional volume expected within the dermis and muscle layers were asserted by examining the slopes of the plotted index for heat and exercise. The results presented in thls study support the claim that reflectance can separately discriminate between changes of blood volume and oxygenation in muscle and in skin. The data demonstrate the ability to measure consistent changes In tissue optical properties during exercise and heat.

Purpose: To report the results of a correlation analysis of skin dose assessed by in vivo dosimetry and the incidence of acute toxicity. This is a phase 2 trial evaluating the feasibility of intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) as a boost for breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Eligible patients were treated with IORT of 20 Gy followed by whole breast irradiation (WBI) of 46 Gy. A total of 55 patients with a minimum follow-up of 1 month after WBI were evaluated. Optically stimulated luminescence dosimeter (OSLD) detected radiation dose delivered to the skin during IORT. Acute toxicity was recorded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v4.0. Clinical parameters were correlated with seroma formation and maximum skin dose. Results: Median follow-up after IORT was 25.9 weeks (range, 12.7 to 50.3 weeks). Prior to WBI, only one patient developed acute toxicity. Following WBI, 30 patients experienced grade 1 skin toxicity and three patients had grade 2 skin toxicity. Skin dose during IORT exceeded 5 Gy in two patients: with grade 2 complications around the surgical scar in one patient who received 8.42 Gy. Breast volume on preoperative images (p = 0.001), ratio of applicator diameter and breast volume (p = 0.002), and distance between skin and tumor (p = 0.003) showed significant correlations with maximum skin dose. Conclusions: IORT as a boost was well-tolerated among Korean women without severe acute complication. In vivo dosimetry with OSLD can help ensure safe delivery of IORT as a boost.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of substitution of the flour with coffee silver skin (at the levels of 0%, 3%, 5%, and 7%) on the characteristics of yellow layer cake. The specific gravity of batter increased significantly as the content of silver skin increased. The specific volume of cake decreased significantly as the content of silver skin increased. The volume index decreased significantly as the silver skin content increased, while the symmetry index and uniformity index were not influenced. It was found that control had the highest cake indexes. Texture analysis showed that control had the lowest hardness and highest springiness. Hardness value of cakes was increased by adding silver skin; however, the springiness value of cakes with silver skin decreased during storage. According to sensory evaluation, experiment groups scored the higher points in texture acceptance than control. Above all, SS5 scored the highest points in aroma, taste and SS3 scored the highest points in appearance and overall acceptance.
