Objectives : In previous studies, I presented various effects of Seosiokyongsan (SSOOS) cp soap on facial skin. However, in the case of skin clinical trials, various factors such as lifestyle, alcohol, tobacco, and stress could not be excluded. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of face wash using SSOOS cp soap on the skin without environmental factors. Methods : The same water and towel were used at the same place in order to examine the skin change state immediately before and after washing face with SSOOS cp soap. The skin test was performed before washing the face and after 10 minutes washing the face to compare the changes. As a control group, the case of washing with water without using cleanser and the case of washing with S-K cleanser, which is a popular commercial product, were set. Three cases were compared and analyzed. Results : In the case of water washing, the decrease in moisture was similar to that of the S-K cleanser and the amount of oil and pores decreased, but it was weaker than that of the S-K cleanser. The SSOOS cp soap showed a decrease in oil, pores, and pigments, but it was not significant, the moisture showed a significant decrease, but it was mild compared to S-K cleanser and water wash. Conclusion : In the case of SSOOS cp soap, the stimulation caused by facial cleansing was the least, showing a gentle change.
In recent years, a miniature spectrometer has been extensively developed due to the combination of fiber optics and semiconductor detector arrays. This type of miniature spectrometer has advantages of low price and robustness because of the capability of mass production and no moving parts are required such as lenses, mirrors and scanning monochromator. In this study, for skin diagnostics, a portable near infrared (NIR) system has been developed using a LlGA microspectrometer, which is photo-diode arrays-type.(omitted)

Background: Panax ginseng is regarded as one of the best compounds for promoting health, and it has been used traditionally as a medicinal herb. Recently, Korean Red Ginseng (RG) has been shown to protect skin from aging and wrinkling; it can also relieve atopic dermatitis and allergy symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate RG's effects on the regeneration of the full-thickness skin wounds in rat. Methods: Full-thickness skin wounds were generated in rats, and then RG was administered either orally or topically. The wound-healing effects of RG were investigated by assessing wound size, mRNA expression patterns of genes related to wound healing, histological staining, and measurements of lipid, moisture, and elasticity in skin tissues. Results: The wound size was smaller, and tissue regeneration rate was faster in the RG-treated group than that in the control group on days 15 and 20 after initiating treatment. On postoperative day 20, skin lipid and moisture content had increased significantly in the RG-treated group. Significant increases in the gene expression levels of transforming growth $factor-{\beta}1$ and vascular endothelial growth factor were found in the RG group during the early stages of wound healing. Matrix metalloproteinase-1 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 showed significant increases in gene expression levels on day 20. Conclusion: The results suggested that RG may promote healing of full-thickness skin wounds in rats. They also provided basic insights into the effects of RG on skin regeneration, supporting its use as a dressing material for wound treatment and its development as a functional food.
Objectives : The aim of present study was to investigate the skin characteristics of twenty-five healthy Korean subjects. These results can be used as basic data for the development of future herbal applications. Methods : Skin type, hair and scalp condition, water content, sebum content were investigated through the measurement of skin conditions and subjective questionnaire survey to know the skin characteristics of subjects. Results : Most of subject has 'Dry Skin' and they have trouble about their keratin(dandruff), scalp itching, alopecia, hair texture, scalp moisture. Conclusions : More studies are needed to investigate the skin characteristics of healthy Korean subjects.
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether nutrient intakes and serum biochemical indices are associated with the skin condition of humans. Anthropometric data, skin surface hydration, ceramide content, dietary intake of nutrients and serum lipids (total cholesterol, HDL-, LDL-cholesterol, TG, MDA: malondialdehyde, TAS: total antioxidant status) were obtained from 36 healthy young women. Subjects were classified into 2 groups {LM: Low Moisture Group (n = 20) , HM: High Moisture Group (n = 16)} by forehead skin hydration. The results of this study were as follows: The average age, BMI, total body water, LBM, body fat$\%$, WHR, forehead hydration, ceramide content were 20.2 yrs, 20.7, 28.81, 39.2 kg, $28.0\%$, 0.8, $44.3\%$, and 1.05 $\mu$g/$\mu$g protein, repectively. The intakes of SF A (saturated fatty acid) , MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acid) in the HM group were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in the LM group, but zinc intakes in the LM group were higher than in the HM group. Serum levels of TAS in the LM group (1.27 mmol/l) were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than that of in the HM group (1.20 mmol/l). Whereas other lipid levels were not significantly different, intakes of vitamin $B_{6}$ and folate showed significant positive correlation with the forehead hydration (r = 0.447, r = 0.377). Intakes of calcium and phosphorus showed significant negative correlation with forearm ceramide content (r = -0.496, r = -0.485). Several associations between nutrient intakes and skin conditions were observed, indicating that changes in baseline nutritional status may affect skin health.
Background and Objectives: Allergic contact dermatitis is a common environmental health issue and seriously affect the patient's quality of life. The more our environment industrialized, the number of material that could cause the allergic contact dermatitis has been increased, consequently the prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis has been increased. In contact hypersensitivity assay, experimental group showed decreased ear swelling compared with control group at 48hours. 2. ln melanin measurement there was no difference in three groups. 3. In erythema measurement experimental group showed reduction at 48. 72 hours. 4. In pH measurement, experimental group and control group showed increase in pH but there was no statistical significance. 5. In skin moisture measurement, experimental group showed higher skin moisture level than control group at 24 hours and showed lower skin moisture level at 72 hours, but there was no statistical significance. 6. In biopsy, experimental group showed decrement of Iymphocyte as time goes by, and regeneration of keratin layer was increased compared with normal group. Conclusions: Chogam-Tang shows anti-inflammatory effect in biopsy, improves hydration levels of skin, decreases erythema level on allergic contact dermatitis.
Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) suggests the concept of health condition which is owned of different properties by each Sasang Constitution. But SCM theory has concentrate to explaining different symptoms that distinguish health condition, not much concerned with practical methods like face features, pulse diagnosis, skin surface properties and voice features. Physical properties of practical diagnosis methods from literature finding have been researched. As a result, complexion and face moisture were described to be physical properties related to health State. In scope of pulse diagnosis, depth, rate, contour, width and pressure are related. Skin surfaces' elasticity, moisture, fraction properties were also suggested as factors of health State of Sasang Constitution. We assume that this study would contribute further studies for objectifying and quantifying diagnosis methods to evaluate health state grades of Sasang Constitution.
