  • We propose a new fast, algorithm which is used for detecting frontal face in the frequency domain based on human skin-color using OCT coefficient of dynamic image compression and skin color information. The region where each pixel has a value of skin-color were extracted from U and V value based on DCT coefficient obtained in the process of Image compression using skin-color map in the Y, U, V color space A morphological filter and labeling method are used to eliminate noise in the resulting image We propose the algorithm to detect fastly human face that estimate the directional feature and variance of luminance block of human skin-color Then Extraction of face was completed adaptively on both background have the object analogous to skin-color and background is simple in the proposed algorithm The performance of face detection algorithm is illustrated by some simulation results earned out on various races We confined that a success rate of 94 % was achieved from the experimental results.

  • Today, modern people perceive skin care as part of their physical health care, and acne is a common skin disease problem that is found on the face. In this paper, an effective acne detection algorithm using CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space has been proposed. It is red when the pixel value of the component image $a^*$ is a positive number, so it is suitable for detecting acne in skin image. First, the skin image based on the RGB color space is subjected to light compensation through color balancing, and converted into a CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space. The extracted component image $a^*$ was normalized, and then the skin and acne area were estimated with the threshold values. Experimental results show that the proposed method detects acne more effectively than the conventional method based on brightness information, and the proposed method is robust against the reflected light source.

  • In the natural world, most materials such as skin, marble and cloth are translucent. Their appearance is smooth and soft compared with metals or mirrors. In this paper, we propose a new GPU based hierarchical rendering technique for translucent materials, based on the dipole diffusion approximation, at interactive rates. Information of incident light, position, normal, and irradiance, on the surfaces are stored into 2D textures by rendering from a primary light view. Huge numbers of pixel photons are clustered into quad-tree image pyramids. Each pixel, we select clusters (sets of photons), and then we approximate multiple subsurface scattering term with the clusters. We also introduce a novel hierarchical screen-space interpolation technique by exploiting spatial coherence with early-z culling on the GPU. We also build image pyramids of the screen using mipmap and pixel shader. Each pixel of the pyramids is stores position, normal and spatial similarity of children pixels. If a pixel's the similarity is high, we render the pixel and interpolate the pixel to multiple pixels. Result images show that our method can interactively render deformable translucent objects by approximating hundreds of thousand photons with only hundreds clusters without any preprocessing. We use an image-space approach for entire process on the GPU, thus our method is less dependent to scene complexity.

  • This paper presents a method for detecting tumors on chicken carcasses by fusion of hyperspectral fluorescence and reflectance images. Classification of normal skin and tumor is performed by the image obtain 어 from optimal band ratio which minimizes the overlapping area of PDFs for normal skin and tumor. This method yields four feature images, each of them represents the ratio of two intensity values from a pixel. Classification is achieved by applying ISODATA to each pixel from the feature images. For the analysis of reflectance image, band selection method is proposed based on the information quantity, many effective features are acquired for the classification by defining the linear transformation selecting the projection axis, accordingly, accurate interpretation of images is possible in the reflectance image and automatic feature selection method is realized. Feature images from reflectance images are also classified by ISODATA and combined with the result from fluorescence images. Experimental result indicates that improved performance in term of reducing false detection rate is observed.

  • At existing skin detection methods using skin color information defined based on the prior knowldege, threshold value to be used at the stage of dividing the backround and the skin region was decided on a subjective point of view through experiments. Also, threshold value was selected in a passive manner according to their background and illumination environments in these existing methods. These existing methods displayed a drawback in that their performance was fully influenced by the threshold value estimated through repetitive experiments. To overcome the drawback of existing methods, this paper propose a skin region detection method using a histogram approximation based on the mean shift algorithm. The proposed method is to divide the background region and the skin region by using the mean shift method at the histogram of the skin-map of the input image generated by the comparison of the similarity with the standard skin color at the CbCr color space and actively finding the maximum value converged by brightness level. Since the histogram has a form of discontinuous function accumulated according to the brightness value of the pixel, it gets approximated as a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) using the Bezier Curve method. Thus, the proposed method detects the skin region by using the mean shift method and actively finding the maximum value which eventually becomes the dividing point, not by using the manually selected threshold value unlike other existing methods. This method detects the skin region high performance effectively through experiments.

  • Face detection in real-time video constitutes one of the major trend in face recognition. In this paper, we propose a face detection algorithm using the skin color and Haar-like feature in real-time video. The proposed algorithm is followed by three sequences; First, moving objects are detected by difference-method in YCbCr coordinates, and then by using Haar-like features, face candidate regions of the moving objects is selected. Finally we extract the most possible face candidates by comparing the pixel values of face candidates with the skin color. In order to prevent a mistake. we use similar features or skin color to detect a face by selecting a adaptive ROI and improve the processing speed in real-time video. The computer simulation shows the validity of the proposed method that the processing speed is improved by 30% than previous works and the detection success rate is 96.8%.

  • In this work, we suggested the method which improves the efficiency of the face detection algorithm using Pulse-Coupled Neural Network. Face detection algorithm which uses the color information is independent on pose, size and obstruction of a face. But the use of color information encounters some problems arising from skin-tone color in the background, intensity variation within faces, and presence of random noise, and so on. Depending on these conditions, we obtained the mean and variance of the skin-tone colors by experiments. Then we introduce a preprocess that the pixel with a mean value of skin-tone colors has highest level value (255) and the other pixels in the skin-tone region have values between 0 and 255 according to a normal distribution with a variance. This preprocess leads to an easy decision of the linking coefficient of Pulse-Coupled Neural Network.

  • Arteria radialis is a branch of the brachial artery extending down the forearm around the wrist where it closes to skin surface. In the oriental medicine, the skin above arteria radialis has an important role because oriental medicine practitioners put their finger tips on the area, and diagnose patient's health conditions by feeling the pulsation of the arterial contraction. The finger tip diagnostic method relies on subjective decision of the practitioner; and there is a need to develop an objective diagnostic modality. The pulsation of the arterial contraction appears not only a movement on the site but also as temperature fluctuation due to pulsatile feeding of warmer blood. The goal of this study is to demonstrate a feasibility of using an infrared camera quantitatively to detect the temperature fluctuation on the skin. Clinical important three different areas, called chon, gwan, chuk, near a wrist where the arteria radialis reaches close to skin surface are marked with small pieces of surgical tape. A high-speed and high-resolution infrared camera with a 3 cm of field of view measures these areas for 10 second at 200 frames per second with a 320*240 pixel size. The pulsatile temperature fluctuation is calculated after passing a band pass filter to remove any stationary temperature over 10 second. The temperature fluctuation of a healthy male volunteer is measured at a room temperature as a control, and is compared with another measurement performed after 20 minutes staying in a room at a 40 degree Celsius. This comparison is repeated for three times, and indicates that the fluctuation increases after staying 20 minutes in the warm room. This increase becomes smaller when the person stays in the warm room with an acupuncture treatment that decreases body temperature. So that an objective diagnostics on the site may become feasible.

  • When we detect side-view face in color image, we decide a candidate face region using skin-tone color, and confirm to the face by template matching. Cang Wei use a left and a right template of face, calculate to similarity value by hausdorff method, and decide the final side-view face. It has a characteristic that side-view face is wide spreading neck region. To get exactly result, face region is separated vertically by 3 pixel unit, and matched template. In this paper, we assume that a side-view face is a right side-view or a left side-view face. We separate a half of the candidate face region vertically, and regard a left side as left candidate face, a right side as right candidate face by template matching. This method detect faster than Gang Wei method.

  • In this paper, a method to directly calculate the major elements of skin color such as melanin and hemoglobin from the RGB signal of the camera is proposed. The main elements of skin color typically measure spectral reflectance using specific equipment, and reconfigure the values at some wavelengths of the measured light. The values calculated by this method include such things as melanin index and erythema index, and require special equipment such as a spectral reflectance measuring device or a multi-spectral camera. It is difficult to find a direct calculation method for such component elements from a general digital camera, and a method of indirectly calculating the concentration of melanin and hemoglobin using independent component analysis has been proposed. This method targets a region of a certain RGB image, extracts characteristic vectors of melanin and hemoglobin, and calculates the concentration in a manner similar to that of Principal Component Analysis. The disadvantage of this method is that it is difficult to directly calculate the pixel unit because a group of pixels in a certain area is used as an input, and since the extracted feature vector is implemented by an optimization method, it tends to be calculated with a different value each time it is executed. The final calculation is determined in the form of an image representing the components of melanin and hemoglobin by converting it back to the RGB coordinate system without using the feature vector itself. In order to improve the disadvantages of this method, the proposed method is to calculate the component values of melanin and hemoglobin in a feature space rather than an RGB coordinate system using a feature vector, and calculate the spectral reflectance corresponding to the skin color using a general digital camera. Methods and methods of calculating detailed components constituting skin pigments such as melanin, oxidized hemoglobin, deoxidized hemoglobin, and carotenoid using spectral reflectance. The proposed method does not require special equipment such as a spectral reflectance measuring device or a multi-spectral camera, and unlike the existing method, direct calculation of the pixel unit is possible, and the same characteristics can be obtained even in repeated execution. The standard diviation of density for melanin and hemoglobin of proposed method was 15% compared to conventional and therefore gives 6 times stable.
