Drying characteristic data for peeled ginseng were obtained to determine dominant drying factors and fitted with five selected drying models and an empirical model. Among air temperature, relative humidity and diameter of ginseng root, drying air temperature was found to be the most influencing factor on drying rate. Drying velocity appeared faster as the drying temperature increased but its effect was less at high temperature than at low temperature. Quality change during the drying process did not occur except when relative humidity was 75fb. At high relative humidity, skin color of ginseng was turned to light brown. Approximate-Diffusion and the Empirical model for drying were in a good agreement with experimental data. The models are as follows; $.$ Approximate-Diffusion model MR = A$.$exe(-k$.$1) A = 1.72 + 0.407 In(D) - 0.0000963T3 - 0.358 In(RH) + 0.0000945 RH2 B= 1.01 + 0.0195RH - 0.O0518D2 + 0.0708 In(T) - 0.492 In(RHI-D.0000933RH2$.$Empirical model MR= Cl + Cs$.$In(t) Cl= 1.14+0.382 In(D)-0.00008477a-0.139 In(RH)+0.0000664RH2 Cs=0.440-0.0224 In(D)-0.193 In(T)+0.0000464T2-0.00000771RH2
Many patients with malignancies of the head and neck undergo radiation therapy, either as the only method of treatment or in combination with surgery. Radiation therapy has great effect in the case of fairly advanced malignancies which can't be operated radically. But the complication of radiation therapy arise because of damage to the peri- and operated area. It is fully known that irradiated tissue shows retarded healing process in the skin, mucosa and especially vascuslar tissue. The purpose of this study was to observe the healing process of irradiated free or island flap after operation. As Experimental Models, Femoral arterial and venous anastomosis (Group 1), Epigastric-island flap (Group 2) and free Epigastric falp(Group 3) with irradiated postoperative 24 hrs were made on 30 rats/group. As Control Model(Group 4), Free Epigastric flap was not irradiated after operation was chosen on 30 rats. The amount of irradiation was single fraction of 20 Gy using as linear megavoltage accelerator. Difference between Experimental and Control group was evaluated by the method of clinical examination, histopatholoical findings, biochemical analysis and DNA activity at postoperative 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. The results were as follows, 1. Skin color and new epithelization in group 2 and 3 was similar to control group clinically. 2. Postoperarive patency of femoral artery and vien showed 5% and 22% of ischemity. 3. The externa, media and intima of irradiated femoral artery and vein were similar to control group histopathlogically. 4. Granulation and collagen tissue accumulation of irradiated groups were more active due to degenerative and fibrotic changes than control group at postoperative 7 days histopathologically. 5. The hydroxyproline content of all experimental groups were reduced till 14 days and the group 2 was most prominent at postoperative 7 and 28 days(p<0.05). 6. DNA activities of all groups were reduced till 3 days, but begun to recover at 7 days and more activities in control group than irradiated group(p<0.05). Based on the above results, the clinical healing process of free flaps with irradiated postoperative 24 hrs little difference from control group without complications.

Ultra-high-speed images that accurately depict the minute movements of objects have become common as low-cost and high-performance cameras that can film at high speeds have emerged. In this paper, the proposed method removes unexpected noise contained in images after input at high speed, and then extracts an area of interest that can represent personal information, such as skin areas, from the image in which noise has been removed. In this paper, noise generated by abnormal electrical signals is removed by applying bilateral filters. A color model created through pre-learning is then used to extract the area of interest that represents the personal information contained within the image. Experimental results show that the introduced algorithms remove noise from high-speed images and then extract the area of interest robustly. The approach presented in this paper is expected to be useful in various applications related to computer vision, such as image preprocessing, noise elimination, tracking and monitoring of target areas, etc.

We investigated the protective effect of UVB inducing photodamage from mulberry extract (ME) and Lithospermum erythrorhizon extract (LE). The contents of total anthocyanin and shikonin as a color compound of ME and LE were 4.92 mg/g and 9.58 mg/g, respectively. The electron donating ability and superoxide radical scavenging activity of ME were 84.32% and 76.34%, respectively. The oxygen radical absorbance capacity of the ME ($545.37{\mu}moles$ TE/g) was higher than LE ($427.18{\mu}moles$ TE/g). MMP-1 production in the HS68 cells were exposed to UVB suppressed by treatment with $200{\mu}g/mL$ of ME (68.6%) and LE (32.7%). ME and LE were applied to a skin aging mouse model, which was induced by the irradiation of UVB to the backs of hairless mice. The value of skin erythema index, wrinkle depth and thickness, epidermis thickness, and collagenous fiber damage in the experiment groups (MEL: ME 3%, MEM: ME 5%, MEH: ME 7%, LEL: LE 3%, LEM: LE 5%, LEH: LE 7%) were remarkably reduced than in the control group (only UVB exposure group), while water capacity increased. The level of total wrinkles depth in the skin was decreased to be 30% of the control group by MEH and LEM. These results suggest that ME and LE are useful cosmetic materials for skin protection against UVB-inducing.
Conjunctival injection is the initial symptom of various eye diseases such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, or uveitis. The quantification of conjunctival injection may help the diagnosis and follow-up evaluation of various eye diseases. The size of the sclera is an important factor for the quantification of conjunctival injection. However, previous manual segmentation is time-consuming.Automatic segmentation is needed to extract the objective region of interest. This paper proposed a method based on the level set algorithm to segment the sclera from an anterior eye image. The initial model of the level set algorithm is calculated using the Lab color space, k-means algorithm and the geometric information. The level set algorithm was applied to the images in which the valley between the eyeball and skin was enhanced using the hessian analysis. This algorithm was tested with 52 images of the anterior eye segment. Results showed that the proposed method performs better than those with the level set algorithm using an arbitrary circle, or the region growing algorithm with color information. The proposed method for the segmentation of sclera may become an important component for the objective measurement of the conjunctival injection.

In this paper, we propose the pet robot control system using hand gesture recognition in image sequences acquired from a camera affixed to the pet robot. The proposed system consists of 4 steps; hand detection, feature extraction, gesture recognition and robot control. The hand region is first detected from the input images using the skin color model in HSI color space and connected component analysis. Next, the hand shape and motion features from the image sequences are extracted. Then we consider the hand shape for classification of meaning gestures. Thereafter the hand gesture is recognized by using HMMs (hidden markov models) which have the input as the quantized symbol sequence by the hand motion. Finally the pet robot is controlled by a order corresponding to the recognized hand gesture. We defined four commands of sit down, stand up, lie flat and shake hands for control of pet robot. And we show that user is able to control of pet robot through proposed system in the experiment.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can recognize not only the number of stretched fingers but also determination of attached fingers for extracting features required for hand gesture recognition. The proposed algorithm detects the hand area in the input image by the skin color range filter based on a color model and labeling, and then recognizes various hand gestures by extracting the number of stretched fingers and determination of attached fingers using curvature information extracted from outlines and feature points. Experiment results show that the recognition rate and the frame rate are similar to those of the conventional algorithm, but the number of gesture cases that can be defined by the extracted characteristics is about four times higher than the conventional algorithm, so that the proposed algorithm can recognize more various gestures.

In this paper, we propose a new method to extract palm lines and read it with simple techniques from one photo. We use morphological information and 8-directional contour tracking algorithm. From the digitalized image, we transform original RGB information to YCbCr color model which is less sensitive to the brightness information. The palm region is extracted by simple threshold as Y:65~255, Cb:25~255, Cr:130~255 of skin color. Noise removal process is then followed with morphological information of the palm such that the palm area has more than quarter of the pixels and the rate of width vs height is more than 2:1 and 8-directional contour tracking algorithm. Then, the stretching algorithm and Sobel mask are applied to extract edges. Another morphological information that the meaningful edges(palm lines) have between 10 and 20 pixels is used to exclude noise edges and boundary lines of the hand from block binarized image. Main palm lines are extracted then by labeling method. This algorithm is quite effective even reading the palm from a photographed by a mobile phone, which suggests that this method could be used in various applications.
This paper proposes a real-time face detection and tracking a method in complex backgrounds. The proposed method is based on the principal component analysis (PCA) technique. For the detection of a face, first, we use a skin color model and motion information. And then using the PCA technique the detected regions are verified to determine which region is indeed the face. The tracking of a face is based on the Euclidian distance in eigenspace between the previously tracked face and the newly detected faces. Camera control for the face tracking is done in such a way that the detected face region is kept on the center of the screen by controlling the pan/tilt platform. The proposed method is extensible to other systems such as teleconferencing system, intruder inspection system, and so on.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the formative beauty of metro sexual expressed on the 21C men's fashion. in 21C, metro sexual is being accepted as an object to lead the world consumption culture, and it is said to be most appropriate to the definition as a model that can determine the most modern men. Moreover, with well being life style, it shows characteristic that expresses chic sense through fashion. The results of the study were as below. 1. In recent men's wear, sensory feminine that looks young and trendy is being presented through clothes, rather than the image of men who are strong. Therefore, by wearing splendid flower print, bold color and gorgeous accessories, men send off their attractions. 2. The recent body king syndrome gave new aesthetic value on men's body. Therefore, men's body is becoming cultural icon of metro sexual as another face that shows social status and cultural taste. 3. The men's image of metro sexual that is felt from softer skin and hair than women, and well-built body is appealing more through body conscious look. Here, men's body silhouette is being sublimated aesthetically through design with various materials such as see-through and leather etc., and this is body conscious image that can be seen only in metro sexual. Like this, metro sexual fashion sense was expressed by feminine softness sometimes, and beautiful body silhouette sometimes by expressing one's sexiness enough, being away' from conceptual masculine. Therefore, the appearance of metro sexual can be understood that men's body exposure is becoming a social virtue that expresses beauty.
