  • For the increasingly complicated and technology dependent 21st century, ICT literacy is being emphasized by education authorities as a key ability needed to succeed in a knowledge-based society. Accordingly, since 2007, several studies have been conducted to measure the ICT literacy levels of students. This study aimed at analyzing how ICT literacy levels vary according to students' skill sets from the viewpoint of educational convenience. To fulfill this goal, the ICT literacy abilities of 167 elementary students and 159 middle school students (all receiving education at "gifted students" education centers) were compared with the following results. First, elementary students displayed differences with regards to 'computer and network' and 'information society and ethics' among the content elements, and 'critical mind' and 'information communication' among capability elements according to their skill sets. Second, middle school students displayed differences with regards to 'information society and ethics' and 'information organization and creation' elements according to their skill sets. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it measured the ICT literacy levels of --and made suggestions for education to-- students specially gifted in information, science and mathematics rather than general students.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze training needs for skill assessor's competency of vocational education teachers in Korea. This research was conducted based on Russ-Eft's competency model for skill assessor. Data were gathered from 234 vocational education teachers over the country, and final respondents were 158 males and 73 females. As a result of analysis, reliability for expert (needs score 2.51), establishment for assessment management plan (needs score 2.11), management plan (needs score 2.08), and effective collaboration (needs score 2.07) have high developmental needs. On the other hand, recognition of a variety intention (needs score 1.01), observation of ethical standard (needs score 1.24), and personal relationship (needs score 1.76) have low developmental needs.

  • Professional communication skills in writing and speaking with multiple and complex audiences are required to engineers in society of modern technology. In this paper, we proposed the effective assessment system for the Program Outcomes on the communication skill competence(PO7), which is one of the 12 program outcomes stipulated by ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea). To ensure logical connectivity of the assessment system, we carefully selected the performance criteria by defining the core concept of "written communication" and "verbal communication". Based on the selected performance criteria, the whole process of creating assessment tools and rubrics was explained in detail. It can be expected that the assessment for the Program Outcomes on the communication skill competence would be more systematic by using the proposed assessment system.

And we hope to know the influence of those affect on the correctness of chest thrusts, the correctness of artificial respiration, and the correctness of skill performing. As a SPSS 14.0 program's analyzing results, we came to the following conclusions : 1. In the basic CPR's knowledge, the scores of knowledge rose from 5.93 before education to 12.46 after education. In attitude, the scores of attitude rose from 2.52 to 3.71 after education. In self-efficacy's scores, rose from 3.22 to 3.26 too, and all components have statistically significant differences(P < .05). 2. In performing CPR, the correctness of chest thrusts is 68.90%, artificial respiration is 19.00%. 3. Total average score of the capability of skill is 4.51. 4. Only self-efficacy affected the correctness of chest thrusts after education(P < .05). 5. Attitude after education affected both the correctness of artificial respiration and skill performing(P < .05).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Microcomputer Based Laboratory (MBL) on the middle school students' graphing skill and science process skill in Earth Science classes. MBL teaching materials for inquiry-based instructions were developed to teach five experimental topics related to the middle school 'Earth Science.' Thirty three middles school students participated in this study, and the pre- and post-tests were conducted. Results indicated as follow: First, MBL classes were effective in developing the graphing skill of middle school students. They were efficient both in graph construction and graph interpretation, especially in data transformation. Second, MBL classes were effective in helping participants to use science process skills, especially, in the subordinate areas including formulating hypotheses, making operational definition, graphing, and interpreting data.
