Currently, there are many power transmission devices, including gears, friction wheels, chains, and belts. Because the power transmission of gears is most certainin these devices, gears are widely used in different power transmission fields and environments. In accordance with the gear shape, gears can be classified as cylindrical gears and conical gears. A cylindrical gear, which provides a means of power transmission under parallel axis and skewed axis conditions, contains a spur gear, a helical gear and a worm gear. A conical gear, which can be used on a skewed axis as well as parallel and crossed axes, includes a bevel gear(e.g., straight bevel, spiral bevel, hypoid gear) and a conical involute gear(or a bevel oid gear). In this paper, a conical involute gear which utilizes the fabrication method of other involute gears such as spur and helical gears using a CNC hobbing machine is discussed.
Steel tubular towers are commonly used in UHV and long crossing transmission lines. By considering effects of the model scale, the solidity ratio and the ratio of the mean width to the mean height, wind tunnel tests under different wind speeds on twenty tubular steel tower body models and twenty-six tubular steel cross-arm models were completed. Drag coefficients and shielding factors of the experimental tower body models and cross-arm models in wind directional axis for typical skewed angles were obtained. The influence of the lift forces on the skewed wind load factors of tubular steel tower bodies was evaluated. The skewed wind load factors, the wind load distribution factors in transversal and longitudinal direction were calculated for the tubular tower body models and cross-arm models, respectively. Fitting expressions for the skewed wind load factors of tubular steel bodies and cross-arms were determined through nonlinear fitting analysis. Parameters for skewed wind loads determined by wind tunnel tests were compared with the regulations in applicable standards. Suggestions on the drag coefficients, the skewed wind load factors and the wind load distribution factors were proposed for tubular steel transmission towers.

This study is focused on evaluation of the structural behavior of skewed bridge during earthquake. The variation of natural frequencies and the lateral forces at pier shoes by the skewness and the rotational effect about vertical axis of skewed bridge due to seismic activity are analytically evaluated and identified through case studies. For this purpose, the composite steel girder highway bridges are selected as case study models. The seismic analyses by response spectrum method and time history method are performed for the selected models. It has been recognized that the frequency of longitudinal model increased as the skew angle decreased, while the lateral mode frequency showed the opposite trends. When the skew angle decreased, longitudina seismic forces of the bridge at the pier were increased but decreased in transverse direction. And it also has been found that the skewed bridges of the case study models showed the rotational behavior about vertical axis due to motion of San Fernando earthquake at Pacoima Dam.
In this paper we propose skewed angle detection methods for images that contain text that is not aligned horizontally. In most images text areas are aligned along the horizontal axis, however there are many occasions when the text may be at a skewed angle (denoted by 0 < ${\theta}\;{\leq}\;{\pi}$). In the work described, we adapt the Hough transform, Shadow and Threshold Projection methods to detect the skewed angle of text in an input image using the orthogonal angle view property. The results of this method are a primary text skewed angle, which allows us to rotate the original input image into an image with horizontally aligned text. This utilizes document image processing prior to the recognition stage.
Reduced beam section (RBS) moment resisting connections are among the most economical and practical rigid steel connections developed in the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge and the 1995 Kobe earthquakes. Although the performance of RBS connection has been widely studied, this connection has not been subject to in the skewed conditions. In this study, the seismic performance of dogbone connection was investigated at different angles. The Commercial ABAQUS software was used to simulate the samples. The numerical results are first compared with experimental results to verify the accuracy. Nonlinear static analysis with von Mises yield criterion materials and the finite elements method were used to analyze the behavior of the samples The selected Hardening Strain of materials at cyclic loading and monotonic loading were kinematics and isotropic respectively The results show that in addition to reverse twisting of columns, change in beam angle relative to the central axis of the column has little impact on hysteresis response of samples. Any increase in the angle, leads to increased non-elastic resistance. As for Weak panel zone, with increase of the angle between the beam and the column, the initial submission will take place at a later time and at a larger rotation angle in the panel zone and this represents reduced amount of perpendicular force exerted on the column flange. In balanced and strong panel zones, with increase in the angle between the beam and the central axis of the column, the reduced beam section (RBS), reaches the failure limit faster and at a lower rotation angle. In connection of skewed beam, balanced panel zone, due to its good performance in disposition of plasticity process away from connection points and high energy absorption, is the best choice for panel zone. The ratio of maximum moment developed on the column was found to be within 0.84 to 1 plastic anchor point, which shows prevention of brittle fracture in connections.

The walls of art museums become the background of exhibits, and they form a unit space depending on the of each exhibit. In addition, the walls are configured and presented depending on the rhythm of space, or the structure of an axis. In this study, according to the axis composed for each unit space, the presentation methods of walls were classified as follows: The central type, the skewed type, the crossed type, the one-side corridor type, and the two-way corridor type. By analyzing visual configurations formed by the arrangement of each unit space, the value and the hierarchy of walls are discussed To analyze the classified types with the physical change of unit space, the factors of visual integration, connectivity, depth, and visual axis are compared, and various configurations of walls and space change are applied.
Experimentally, the aligned direction of AFLCs in electro-optic cells having both the substrates rubbed along the same direction is skewed by a few degrees from the rebbing direction. To explain why, we proposed "Torsional Rigid Body Model" and interpreted their skewing angle as the action of short pitch with the large shear stress. That is, the azimuthal an anchoring strength (about 35 dyn/cm) in the cell is much larger than the maximum shear stress (about 10$^{-6}$ dyn/cm) for the original pitch and so forbids the optic axis to skew. On the side hand, the strength is smaller than the maximum shear stress (about 42 dyn/cm) for short pitch and then allows the optic axis to skew.

Generally, marine transmissions contain straight shafts and helical gears, meaning that enginerooms require more space. In order to guarantee a levelengine space for conical involute gears or beveloid gears, both of which are important machine parts, a conical gear was used to replace the traditional cylinder gear. Owing to weak points such as the point contact phenomenon of the teeth, a limitation of the width of each tooth in terms of the addendum, the variational modification coefficient, and the difficulty of processing, research about conical involute gears remains at a standstill. Along with the increasing number of applications of conical involute gears, research on conical gear design technology is necessary. In this paper, in an effort to enhance conical gear design technology, research on the 3D modeling and stress analyses of helical conical involute gears were done.

Conical involute gears are being used for marine gearboxes, automotive transmissions, and robots, and so on, but not much. As involute profile gear, conical involute gear not only can be engaged with spur and helical gear but also can be used for power transmission of parallel, crossed and skewed axis with small angle. Hence, conical involute gears are likely to develop in future. Through a study on the basic theory of conical involute gear, tooth surface compressive stress analysis was performed by using commercial modeling program, comparing before and after profile modification. As a result, it noticed that tooth profile modification is able to relieve more tooth surface compressive stress than before modification.
