This paper shows an experimental study of home appliance motor noise, also represents some relations between skew-types and skew-angles. Frequency analysis was made for stator and rotor harmonic fluxes. making use of searching coils. Besides electrical analysis, mechanical noise trans mission analysis are studied to lee how they affected on the noise of the motor. Finally, we proved the noise sources of the motor using sound intensity method.
The numerical thermal frequency responses of the skew sandwich shell panels structure are investigated via a higher-order polynomial shear deformation theory including the thickness stretching effect. A customized MATLAB code is developed using the current mathematical model for the computational purpose. The finite element solution accuracy and consistency have been checked via solving different kinds of numerical benchmark examples taken from the literature. After confirming the standardization of the model, it is further extended to show the effect of different important geometrical parameters such as span-to-thickness ratios, aspect ratios, curvature ratios, core-to-face thickness ratios, skew angles, and support conditions on the frequencies of the sandwich composite flat/curved panel structure under elevated temperature environment.
This paper extends the use of the hierarchic degenerated shell element to geometric non-linear analysis of composite laminated skew plates by the p-version of the finite element method. For the geometric non-linear analysis, the total Lagrangian formulation is adopted with moderately large displacement and small strain being accounted for in the sense of von Karman hypothesis. The present model is based on equivalent-single layer laminate theory with the first order shear deformation including a shear correction factor of 5/6. The integrals of Legendre polynomials are used for shape functions with p-level varying from 1 to 10. A wide variety of linear and non-linear results obtained by the p-version finite element model are presented for the laminated skew plates as well as laminated square plates. A numerical analysis is made to illustrate the influence of the geometric non-linear effect on the transverse deflections and the stresses with respect to width/depth ratio (a/h), skew angle (${\beta}$), and stacking sequence of layers. The present results are in good agreement with the results in literatures.
Concrete placement and temporary formwork of bridge deck overhangs result in unbalanced eccentric loads that cause exterior girders to rotate during construction. These construction loads affect the global and local stability of the girders and produce permanent girder rotation after construction. In addition to construction loads, the skew angle of the bridge also contributes to girder rotation. To prevent rotation (in both skewed and non-skewed bridges), a number of techniques have been suggested to temporarily brace the girders using transverse tie bars connecting the top flanges and embedded in the deck, temporary horizontal and diagonal steel pipes placed between the webs of the exterior and first interior girders, and permanent cross frames. This study includes a rigorous three-dimensional finite element analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of several bracing systems for non-skewed and several skewed bridges. In this paper, skew angles of $0^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ were considered for single- and three-span bridges. The results showed that permanent cross frames worked well for all bridges, whereas temporary measures have limited application depending on the skew angle of the bridge.
Skew is inevitably occurred in a scanned document image Thus, character recognition systems are generally very sensitive to a skew angle. In this paper, we propose a robust slant correction algorithm based on dithering and estimating vortical transition. Character strings are segmented by projecting the vertical transition point and the slant corrected image. The segmentation method using the vertical transition point can effectively split the character strings touching vertically each other. Experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved robust slant correction and good performance of character string segmentation.

In this paper, we made a simple paper feeding system which is one of MTS (media transport system) and controllers. The plant has a flexible paper and two driving rollers and two driven rollers. The control system has two conventional PID controllers. Skew angle and feeding speed of MTS deteriorate the quality of feeding system. In order to control a feeding speed and skew of feeding paper, we control rotational velocity of two driving rollers. Therefore, this controller has two inputs and two outputs as MIMO (multi-input and multi-output) system. The control inputs were the feeding speed and the skew displacement of the paper. The control outputs were the rotational velocity to each driving roller. To find appropriate PID gains of two controllers, we proposed an optimization technique. We assume the system variables and performance of a whole system as follows. PID gains of two controllers for skew and feeding speed are system variables. System performance is both skew and feeding speed. We simulates to making mathematical correlation using global Kriging interpolation. To find appropriate value of system variables, optimization method is simulation in sequence as following method. First, the optimization solver simulates with DOE (design of experiment) tables to find correlation equation of both system variable and performances. Then, the solver guesses the appropriate values and simulates if the system variables are appropriate or not. If the result of validation doesn't satisfy the convergence and iteration tolerance, the solver makes a new Kriging models and iterates this sequence until satisfy the tolerances.

Although composite construction has more mechanical advantages compared to noncomposite construction, the design of noncomposite construction for skew bridges with large skew angels has been often checked because composite construction may cause large stresses in the bridge deck. In this study, the analytical model considered dynamic behaviors for noncomposite skew bridges was proposed. Using the proposed analytical model, the validity of the application of noncomposite construction to skew bridges was checked. Also, the effects of interactions between the concrete deck and steel girders such as composite construction, partial composite construction, and noncomposite construction on the dynamic characteristics and dynamic behaviors of simply supported skew bridges were investigated. A series of parametric studies for the total 27 skew bridges was conducted with respect to parameters such as girder spacing, skew angle, and deck aspect ratio. Although the slip at the interfaces between the concrete deck and steel girders results in the reduction of seismic total base shear in the transverse direction due to period elongation, it causes an undesirable behavior of skew bridges by the modification in mode shapes and distributions of stiffness. Shear connectors placed by minimum requirements for partial composite action have an effect on reducing the girder stresses and deck stresses; except case of some skew bridges, the magnitude of the girder stresses and deck stresses obtained from partial composite skew bridges is similar to or slightly more than those acquired from composite skew bridges.
The free vibration analysis of stiffened laminated composite plates has been performed using the layered (zigzag) finite element method based on the first order shear deformation theory. The layers of the laminated plate is modeled using nine-node isoparametric degenerated flat shell element. The stiffeners are modeled as three-node isoparametric beam elements based on Timoshenko beam theory. Bilinear in-plane displacement constraints are used to maintain the inter-layer continuity. A special lumping technique is used in deriving the lumped mass matrices. The natural frequencies are extracted using the subspace iteration method. Numerical results are presented for unstiffened laminated plates, stiffened isotropic plates, stiffened symmetric angle-ply laminates, stiffened skew-symmetric angle-ply laminates and stiffened skew-symmetric cross-ply laminates. The effects of fiber orientations (ply angles), number of layers, stiffener depths and degrees of orthotropy are examined.

Aerodynamic forces acting on a curved blade are computed theoretically taking into account the variation of wind speed over the blade to investigate the performance of a vertical axis wind rotor. It is shown that the rotor does not self start at the rated wind speed without a supplementary starting device and that most of the power output is contributed by the central portion of the rotor, and the use of spoilers for limiting the maximum rotational speed is needed for safety. It is also shown that provision of skew angle to the blade does not improve the starting characterstics and only reduces the maximum power output. The effects of geometric variables such as skew angle, blade solidity and ratio of the rotor height to diameter are also discussed.

A spreader pose control system using dual-electric compasses has been implemented by measuring the skew angle of the spreader with dual-electric compasses. In the conventional spreader pose measurement, CCD cameras, laser sensors or tilt sensors are mostly used. However those sensors are not only sensitive to the weather and disturbances but also expensive to build the system. To overcome the shortcomings, an inexpensive and efficient system to control the spreader pose has been implemented using the dual-magnetic compasses. Since the spreader iron-structures are noise sources to the magnetic compass, it is not considered to use the magnetic compass to measure the orientation of the spreader. An algorithm to eliminate the interferences of metal structures to the dual compasses has been developed in this paper. The 10:1 reduction model of a spreader control system is implemented and the control performance is demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the dual-magnetic compasses proposed in this research.
