A Conceptual Framework of an Agent-Based Space-Use Prediction Simulation System

  • Size of building has a direct relationship with building cost, energy use and space maintenance cost. Therefore, minimizing building size during a project development is of paramount importance against such wastes. However, incautious reduction of building size may result in crowded space, and therefore harms the functionality despite the fact that building is supposed to satisfactorily support users' activity. A well-balanced design solution is, therefore, needed at an optimum level that minimizes building size in tandem with providing sufficient space to maintain functionality. For such design, architects and engineers need to be informed accurate and reliable space-use information. We present in this paper a conceptual framework of an agent-based space-use prediction simulation system that provides individual level space-use information over time in a building in consideration of project specific user information and activity schedules, space preference, ad beavioural rules. The information will accordingly assist architects and engineers to optimize space of the building as appropriate.

Study on the size reduction factor of extreme wind pressure of facade cladding of high-rise buildings with square section

  • The effect of cladding panel size on the size reduction factor (SRF) of extreme area-averaging wind pressure (EAWP) on the facades of a high-rise building is often ignored in previous studies. Based on wind tunnel tests, this study investigated the horizontal and vertical correlations of wind pressure on the facade claddings of square-section high-rise buildings. Then, the influencing parameters on the SRF of the EAWP on the cladding panels were analyzed, which were the panel area, panel width, panel length and building width. The results show clear regional distinctions in the correlation of wind pressures on the building facades and the rules of the horizontal and vertical correlations are remarkably different, which causes the cladding size ratio to impact the SRF significantly. Therefore, this study suggests the use of the non-dimensional comprehensive size parameter b𝜶h1-𝜶/B (𝜶 is the fitting parameter) determined by the cladding panel horizontal size b, cladding panel vertical size h and the building width B rather than the cladding panel area to describe the variation of the EAWP. Finally, some empirical formula for the SRF of the EAWP on the cladding of a high-rise building is proposed with the nondimensional comprehensive size parameter.

On the domain size for the steady-state CFD modelling of a tall building

  • There have existed for a number of years good practice guidelines for the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the field of wind engineering. As part of those guidelines, details are given for the size of flow domain that should be used around a building of height, H. For low-rise buildings, the domain sizes produced by following the guidelines are reasonable and produce results that are largely free from blockage effects. However, when high-rise or tall buildings are considered, the domain size based solely on the building height produces very large domains. A large domain, in most cases, leads to a large cell count, with many of the cells in the grid being used up in regions far from the building/wake region. This paper challenges this domain size guidance by looking at the effects of changing the domain size around a tall building. The RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used in a series of steady-state solutions where the only parameter varied is the domain size, with the mesh resolution in the building/wake region left unchanged. Comparisons between the velocity fields in the near-field of the building and pressure coefficients on the building are used to inform the assessment. The findings of the work for this case suggest that a domain of approximately 10% the volume of that suggested by the existing guidelines could be used with a loss in accuracy of less than 10%.

조선후기(朝鮮後期) 관영건축공사(官營建築工事)의 목부재(木部材) 생산(生産)과 물양산정(物量算定)에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Production of Wood Members and the Estimation of Raw Woods at the Government Managed Building Construction in the Late Chosun Dynasty)

  • Since the 17th century, the society of Chosun Dynasty belonged to a period of rapid transition in many fields. As the building is a result produced on the basis of a society and economy, the general transition in a society is to be reflected into a process of building construction. Therefore an understanding or estimate of a building can be guaranteed by research of a process of building construction. Economic base factors in its process consist of material, cost, manpower, and operation system, etc. to be committed to the construction. On the premise, this paper is to examine the production of wood members and the calculation of the amount of raw woods in a process of woodwork in the construction of the government managed buildings in the late of Chosun dynasty. Construction reports, job slips, written estimates, and other documents in those days are examined for the study. To classify raw woods according to a standard size was aimed to a material management appropriately to apply each them to building size or its member size. The way to select a list of raw woods applicable to each member size, and to calculate the amount of the demanded wood was much more improved with 'Injungjeon-yeongkweon' in the year 1805 at the turning point than 'Hwaseong-seongyuk' in the year 1796. The improvement of material management brought to overcome a shortage of the amount supplied from forest preserve, and to a rationalization of building construction.

  • The column for Steel Framed Reinforced Concrete Structure (SFRCS) and the column for Reinforced Concrete Structure (RCS) could be the most common building structure. The increasing of the need for massive space hasaffected the size of building components for supporting the massive structure. However, the changing of components size makes inefficient space of building. Hence, to meet the need for acquiring efficient space comparing the budget and cost the new structure method, Concrete Filled Tube Steel (CFT), was developed. CFT is the structure for which steel tube instead of other materials such as wood for holding concrete is used. The most benefit of this one is to help in reducing the size of the building components and local buckling because of tube steel holding concrete. For this reason, this research will examine the probability of applying CFT on construction sites by using the concrete (800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) especially for CFT through the data from the real size mock-up.

  • Open Housing System ideas were developed in Korea in the 1980s to satisfy the demand for variety indwelling spaces. This domestic attempt to apply open building principles was highly restricted and was applied only in support of middle-large size apartments rather than small size apartments. One of the problems was the conventional design of building structures. It was difficult to effectively satisfy the various lifestyles and transformation of dwellings because existing apartments were designed using a concrete wall structure approach, in which room sizes and arrangements were fixed by the placement of structural concrete walls. This was the result not only of structural analysis (other structural designs were possible) but also the result of the idea that the standard plan was suitable for a stable society and was easier to implement, and that change in social standards and technical upgrading was not going to happen. This study presents an apartment concept in which open building design methods were applied to satisfy the problem of various lifestyles and household sizes and preferences for small apartments. This concept also helps to create a more effective and long lasting building which decreases construction waste, saves resources and protects the environment by enabling the building to accommodate combining, increasing / decreasing, changing location or changing usage of rooms.

우리나라 공공도서관의 규모에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Size of the Public Libraries in Korea)

  • 대규모 도서관을 몇 개 건립하는 것보다 소규모 도서관을 많이 건립하는 것이 단기간에 공공도서관 인프라를 확충하는 데 효율적이다. 우리나라의 공공도서관은 선진국들과 비교해서 큰 규모로 건립되었다. 본 연구는 우리나라 공공도서관의 대부분이 중 대규모로 건립된 원인을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2011년 12월 기준 우리나라 전체 791개 공공도서관의 연면적을 조사하였다. 우리나라 공공도서관의 평균 연면적은 $2,495m^2$로 나타났다. 본 연구는 도서관의 규모 측면에서 공공도서관의 효율적인 인프라 확충을 위해 고려해야할 도서관 건립 정책은 무엇인지를 파악하고자 하였다.

  • 우리나라에 공공도서관이 많이 없다. 그 이유는 국민들의 공공도서관에 대한 중요성 및 필요성에 대한 인식 부족과 중앙 및 지방정부의 도서관건립에 대한 인색한 투자와 함께 효과적인 공공도서관 건립정책이 없었기 때문이다. 이제 선진국과 같은 작은 도서관 건립 및 운영 정책을 펴야 한다. 지역 재개발 및 아파트 재건축 추진은 이들 지역에 작은 규모의 마을도서관을 건립할 수 있는 좋은 기회이다. 서울에 있는 J아파트는 재건축을 추진하고 있는데, 이 시점에서 새로운 위치로 옮겨가는 동사무소와 우체국을 하나의 건물로 신축하고, 이 건물 내에 공공도서관을 설치할 수 있을 것이다. 도서관을 이들 시설들과 함께 1층에 배치한다면 시너지 효과를 발생시켜 세 기관 모두에게 도움이 될 것이다. 이처럼 재개발 및 재건축 지역에 공공기관 혹은 상엽시설과 함께 복합건물 형태로 작은 도서관을 건립하는 것은 우리나라 공공도서관의 부족 문제를 해결 할 수 있는 좋은 방법이다.

고층건축물 수직공간의 화재 시 압력차 분석을 위한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Analyze the Pressure Difference in case of Fire in Vertical Space of High-Rise Buildings)

  • As buildings in South Korea become more skyscrapers, the risk of fire is also emerging. Thus, regulations, regulations, and guidelines are being improved to prevent the spread of smoke in the event of a fire in high-rise buildings, but research on smoke flow and pressure distribution in vertical spaces is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, the temperature of each floor in the vertical space according to the size of the fire is measured through the miniature model experiment, and the pressure difference is calculated to establish the basic data for the improvement of the performance of domestic air supply facilities in the future. Thus, a scale model of one-sixth the size of the actual building was produced to measure the temperature, and the pressure difference was derived by substituting the value for the expression. The pressure difference varies depending on the size of the cause of the fire, and it is believed that the differential pressure and conditions of the building should be taken into account before calculating the supply volume for the analysis of the pressure difference according to the size of the cause of the fire in the event of fire.
