  • The modified engineering methodology and the modified electronic circuit in classical ultrasonic principles were applied to ultrasonic aerosol nebulizer for inhalation toxicology study of cadmium aerosol. 1532.96ppm Cd nebulizing solution was used to generate cadmium aerosol for particle size analysis with the modifying source and inlet temperatures. The results of particle size analysis for cadmium aerosol were as following. The highest particle counting for source temperature 20℃ was 399.75 × 10² in inlet temperature 100℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The highest particle counting for source temperature 50℃ was 399.70 × 10² in inlet temperature 50℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The highest particle counting for source temperature 70℃ was 411.14 × 10² in inlet temperature 100℃ and particle diameter 0.75㎛. The ranges of geometric mean diameter were 0.74-0.79㎛ in source temperature 20℃, 0.65-0.72㎛ in source temperature 50℃, and 0.65-0.80㎛ in source temperature 70℃. The smallest geometric mean diameter was 0.65㎛ in source temperature 50, 70℃ and inlet temperature 20, 50℃, and the largest geometric mean diameter was 0.80㎛ in source temperature 70℃ and inlet temperature 100℃. The ranges of geometric standard deviation were 1.71-1.80 in source temperature 20℃, 1.27-1.61 in source temperature 50℃, and 1.27-2.29 in source temperature 70℃. The lowest geometric standard deviation was 1.27 in source temperature 50, 70℃ and inlet temperature 20, 50℃, and the highest geometric standard deviation was 2.29 in source temperature 70℃ and inlet temperature 100℃. Generated aerosol for cadmium inhalation toxicology study was polydisperse aerosol with the above geometric standard deviation 1.2. The ranges of mass median diameter(MMD) were 1.75-2.25㎛ in source temperature 20℃, 1.27-1.61㎛ in source temperature 50℃, and 1.27-2.29㎛ in source temperature 70℃. • Hydrodynamic similarity was analyzed by employing scaling factor in three phase fluidized beds. The scaling factor was defined based on the holdups of gas, liquid and solid particles and effectivity volumetric flux of fluids between the two kinds of fluidized beds with different column diameter. The column diameter of one was 0.102 m and that of the other was 0.152 m. Filtered compressed air, tap water and glass bead of which density was 2,500 kg/$m^3$ were used as gas, liquid and solid phases, respectively. The individual phase holdups in three phase fluidized beds were determined by means of static pressure drop method. Effects of gas and liquid velocities and particle size on the scaling factors based on the holdups of each phase and effective volumetric flux of fluids were examined. The deviation of gas holdup between the two kinds of three phase fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas or liquid velocity but increased with increasing fluidized particle size. The deviation of liquid holdup between the two fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas or liquid velocity or size of fluidized solid particles. The deviation of solid holdup between the two fluidized beds increased with increasing gas velocity or particle size, however, decreased with increasing liquid velocity. The deviation of effective volumetric flux of fluids between the two fluidized beds decreased with increasing gas velocity or particle size, but increased with increasing liquid velocity. The scaling factor, which was defined in this study, could be effectively used to analyze the hydrodynamic similarity in three phase fluidized processes.

  • Objectives: For the deviation phenomenon occurring during the treatment process in temporo-mandibular balancing medicine (TBM), hypotheses were established regarding the cause and mechanism of formation from the perspective of neuro-science and material mechanics, and a verification method was proposed. Methods: The deviation phenomenon was theoretically analyzed based on the structure theories of material mechanics of the joint and the neurological pain mechanism. Results: Deviation occurs due to temporary yield by the accumulation of heterogeneous stress in the temporo-mandibular joint and the affected joint. Because the joint structures are corresponding with material mechanics showing compressive and tensile properties. The size of the deviation is expressed in terms of strain. The occlusal surface of the teeth is level with the axial joint. Since the magnitude of the deviation has a proportional relationship with the degree of abnormality of the temporo-mandibular joint, the magnitude of the deviation calculated by the balance measurement can be replaced by the strain. The major variables involved in the occurrence of deviations are the strength of joint structures and neurological conditions. Therefore plastic deformation and adaptation occur as a long-term depression of neural circuits is strengthened in different ways at different locations each time in various clinical situations. This is the reason why the sequence of the restoration process while correcting deviations is following reverse order of the accumulation in many layers in the muscular nervous system. Conclusions: From the above results, it can be inferred that the occurrence and correction of the deviations are corresponding with the plastic deformation and neuro-plasticity.

  • The elutriation characteristics of particle size distribution were investigated in a gas-solid fluidized bed. Experiments were carried out with the mulit-sized particles of Gaussian distributions. The elutriation rate constant obtained from the experiment was correlated with the standard deviation of particle size and the dimensionless group of the velocity ratio. The standard deviation of pressure fluctuation, mean pressure, major frequency and power spectrum density function were calculated by pressure fluctuation properties. Size distribution of elutriated particles and pressure fluctuations were measured for the particle size distribution of particle system depended largrly on the size distribution. Characteristics of fluidization and elutriation were greatly influenced by the particle size distribution and these characteristics could be interpreted with pressure fluctuation properties.

  • Continuous synthesis process for monodispersed zirconia powders with ultrasonic wave mixing was developed. Reactant solutions were flowed through a T-tube with small diameter and then mixed in a microscale with ultrasonification. Reaction and aging were followed during the mixed solution of reactants is in plug flowing through a narrow long teflon tubing. Zr(n-OC4H9)4 in ethanol and H2O in ethanol were used as reactants. From this process monodispersed, spherical, non-agglomerated, singlet hydrated zirconia powders with 0.6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ average size were obtained. Geometrical standard deviation of the particle size distribution was less than 1.2 with ultrasonic mixing, and the geometrical standard deviation was not affected by the flow rate of the reactants.

  • The purpose of the study was to suggest ways of improvement of the present sizing systems for the middle aged women's clothing. For this, a questionnaire survey for the aged group and calculating coverage rate of one garment item(suit) between the companies has been carried out. The data was analyzed with use of SPSS package. The statistics were based o frequency, X2-test, t-test and one-way ANOVA. The results of the study was as follows: 1. In case of survey for middle aged women, the problems concerning the length and abdominal girth were found, that is to say, the former too long and the latter too tight. 2. The sizing systems between companies were very different in size classification and standard deviation of each sizes. 3. In calculating coverage rate of the 10 companies's sizing systems, coverage rate of the smallest size in each were the highest and those of the biggest were 0%. It means the standard deviation of the present sizing systems are not enough to cover the various body form of the middle aged women, so that the more diverse sizing system is required for the better fitness of middle aged women's clothing.

  • This paper presents splitting and merging algorithm based on adaptive thresholding. The algorithm first divides the image into blocks, and then compares each block using the calculated thresholding value. The blocks which are same are merged using the certain threshold value and different blocks are split unless it satisfies the threshold value. When the block has been merged, maximum and minimum block sizes are determined then the average block size is determined. After the average block size is determined the average intensity and standard deviation of average block is calculated. The process of thresholding is applied to binarize the image. Finally, the experimental results show that the proposed method distinguishes clearly the background with text in the document image.

  • The measurement of diffraction of LCOS microdisplay with various pixel size, interpixel gap, pixel height and coatings demonstrates that pixel size is the leading factor for diffraction loss, while the role of varying pixel gap is less significant comparatively. One-dimensional diffraction simulation is found to be in good agreement with the measurement. Noticeable deviation occurs when pixel size is as small as 8um.

  • The aim of the study was to assess the isocenter deviation between multiple arcs and conformal beams in frameless FSRT. Forty seven patients received single isocenter radiosurgery or therapy (SRS/T) using available framelss FSRT system from Aug. 1997 to Dec. 2m. In choosing multiple arc FSRT or conformal FSRT, we had considered one of two techniques with respect to tumor size and tumor shape. In multiple arc FSRT, the average and standard deviation (SD) of the isocenter deviation was 0.2 mm (SD 0.2 mm), 0.2 mm (SD 0.2) and 0.3 mm (SD 0.2 mm)in the lateral (x), anterior-posterior (y) and cranio-caudal directions (z). In conformal FSRT, the average deviation and SD of the isocenter deviation was 0.2 mm (SD 0.2 mm), 0.3 mm(0.2 mm) and 0.4 mm (SD 0.2 mm) in the x, y and z directions. The average spacial deviation ($\Delta$r) was 0.41 mm and 0.54 mm in multiple arcs and conformal beams, respectively. The isocenter deviation using frameless FSRT system was similar value between multiple arcs and conformal beams. In practice, we believed we can select the appropriate treatment technique according to tumor shape and size.
