The reaction bonded alumina ceramics was prepared through the addition of each SiC and ZrO2 powder to the mixture of Al metal powder and Al2O3 The mono sized (3mm) and biodal sized (3mm+5mm) balls were used in attrition milling of Al and starting powders. The milling efficiency of both cases was compared by the analysis of particle size and X-ray diffraction. After the forming and sintering of each powder batchs the weight gains dimensional changes and densities were determined. The specimens were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscope. Bimodal sized balls had better milling effect than single ball size in the milling of Al powder. However in the milling which ceramic powders mono sized the green body during the reaction sintering at 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 5 hour was about 10% The densities attained the values of 92-98% theoretical. The SiC added specimen that was milled with 3mm ball media had 96% theoretical density and dense microstructure.

In filler loaded paper, the size of the filler affects its strength, optical and surface properties. As the size of the filler increases, tensile strength and bulk usually increases, opacity decreases, and smoothness becomes worse. Pre-flocculation of GCC (grounded calcium carbonate) makes large diameter flocs at aqueous medium that consists of multiple GCC particles, but they collapse to 2-dimensional shape in dried paper and makes low bulk paper. The hybrid calcium carbonate (HCC) that was made by in-situ $CaCO_3$ formation between GCC in aqueous medium made high bulk paper without harming tensile strength, bulk, opacity, and smoothness. The GCC that has equivalent size as HCC failed to make high opacity and smoothness as much as HCC.
The microstructures of sintered products of $Fe_2O_3$or $Fe_3O_4$-Oxide added cast iron powder was investigated. And the effects of particle size distribution was investigated too. As the result, the structures of sintered products did not related to the species of Fe-Oxide. Th porosity of sintered products was decreased in size and spherodized with increasing sintering temperature, decreasing Fe-Oxide quantity. Fe-Oxide itself did not hinder sintering of cast iron powder particularly, therefore sintering could be occurred without termination of reduction of it. And the sintered products of finer particle size distribution had finer and more spherodized porosity, and had minimized the deviation of size and shape of porosity.
This paper explores the impact of gate shape changes on the size and density of foamed cells in microcellular foam injection molding. Five different gate shapes were examined while varying the amount of nitrogen gas(N2) injected for foaming. Analysis of the results showed that while average values did not change significantly, deviation values decreased by approximately 65% for cell size and 56% for density when 3.5wt% of nitrogen gas was injected in the film gate. Further analysis was conducted to verify this phenomenon, revealing that the contact area between the gate and product had the greatest impact. Our findings indicate that to ensure uniform generation of foamed cells in microcellular foaming product design, a gate with a wide contact area should be secured.
The effects of heating rate on the combustion temperature, the ignition temperature, the microstrurcture and the shape memory ability of products formed by combustion were investigated. The ignition temperature decreased with increasing heating rate. Combustion temperature and ${\Delta}T$(difference temperature between the ignition temperature and the combustion temperature) increased with increasing heating rate. The grain size of the product increased with increasing heating rate. Combustion synthesis did not completely occur below the heating rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$. NiTi intermetallic compound was completely formed at the heating rate of $600^{\circ}C/min$ and the product by combustion method had a good shape memory effect.
The shape and size of the plastic zone around the crack tip are analyzed under pure mode I, pure mode II and mixed mode (I+II) loading for small scale yielding and for both plane stress and plane strain conditions. A new analytical formulation is presented to determine the radius of the plastic zone in a non-dimensional form. In particular, the effect of T-stress on the plastic zone around the crack tip is studied. The results of this investigation indicate that the stress field with a T-stress always yields a larger plastic zone than the field without a T-stress. It is found that under predominantly mode I loading, the effect of a negative T-stress on the size of the plastic zone is more dramatic than a positive T-stress. However, when mode II portion of loading is dominating the effect of both positive and negative T-stresses on the size of the plastic zone is almost equal. For validating the analytical results, several finite element analyses were performed. It is shown that the results obtained by the proposed analytical formulation are in very good agreements with those obtained from the finite element analyses.
Crystallinity and textural relations, which are crucial in terms of the quality concept of high-purity limestone, have not been effectively applicable to the limestone evaluation as crude ore due to the difficulties in precise measurements. To overcome the above, as a new method of ore characterization, a measurement of shape factor and grain boundary frequency utilizing the image analysing system was adopted in this study. Some domestic limestones used for lime manufacturing were investigated by such a quality evaluation method, and its results are discussed and correlated each other samples. As the result, even though calcite contents of crude ore, i.e., limestone grade and its crystal size are similar, quality of manufactured lime is remarkably different depending on the degree of shape factor and grain boundary frequency. In other words, as the more irregular in crystal shape and the higher the grain boundary frequency, the manufactured quick lime became more superior in all terms of lime quality such as rate of calcination, porosity, reactivity, sintering and decrepitation effect. However, because the quick lime become easily overheated in case of relatively higher degree in shape factor and grain boundary effect, a technology minimizing heating time is necessary for the manufacturing of high quality lime. In limestone industry, such a ore characterization method will be much more reasonable than the conventional method by measurement of mean size, because the method may collectively comprise crystal shape and other textural factors which can not be numerically evaluated in the past.
Silicon nanoparticles are widely studied as a material with great potential for wide applications. For application to present industry, it should be easy to control the characteristics of nanoparticle including the size and structure. In this paper, we investigated the formation of Si nanoparticle using pulse plasma technology. Plasma technology is already quite common in device industry and the size of nanoparticle can be easily controlled according to plasma pulse duration. An inductively-coupled plasma chamber with RF power (13.56 MHz) was used with DC-biased grid $(-200\sim+200\;V)$ installed above the substrate. In order to measure the shape and size of nanoparticle, TEM was used. It was found that the size of nanoparticles can be controlled well with the plasma pulse duration and the collection efficiency is increased with the use of either negative or positive DC-bias.

The construction of underground structures such as oil and food storage caverns are recently increasing in our country. The stability of those underground caverns are greatly influenced by their shape and size. In this study therefore, the effect that the shape of an underground cavern have on its stability were analyzed in terms of safety factor. To this end, caverns with 5 different shapes were investigated and sensitivity analyses were performed based on rock class, overburden, and lateral earth pressure coefficient. The proper amount of shotcrete and rockbolt as supports of a cavern was also assumed based on the shape and site of the cavern and rock conditions. This study is expected to be helpful in designing and evaluating the stability of caverns in future.
ZnO particles are successfully synthesized at 150 ℃ for 30 min using zinc acetate as the Zn source and 1,4-butanediol as solvent using a relatively facile and convenient glycol process. The effect of ammonium hydroxide amounts on the growth behavior and the morphological evolution of ZnO particles are investigated. The prepared ZnO nanoparticle with hexagonal structure exhibits a quasi-spherical shape with an average crystallite size of approximately 30 nm. It is also demonstrated that the morphology of ZnO particles can be controlled by 1,4-butanediol with an additive of ammonium hydroxide. The morphologies of ZnO particles are changed sequentially from a quasi-spherical shape to a rod-like shape and a hexagonal rod shape with a truncated pyramidal tip, exhibiting preferential growth along the [001] direction with increasing ammonium hydroxide amounts. It is demonstrated that much higher OH- amounts can produce a nano-tip shape grown along the [001] direction at the corners and center of the (001) top polar plane, and a flat hexagonal symmetry shape of the bottom polar plane on ZnO hexagonal prisms. The results indicate that the presence of NH4+ and OH- ions in the solution greatly affects the growth behaviors of ZnO particles. A sharp near-band-edge (NBE) emission peak centered at 383 nm in the UV region and a weak broad peak in the visible region between 450 nm and 700 nm are shown in the PL spectra of the ZnO synthesized using the glycol process, regardless of adding ammonium hydroxide. Although the broad peak of the deep-level-emission (DLE) increases with the addition of ammonium hydroxide, it is suggested that the prominent NBE emission peaks indicate that ZnO nanoparticles with good crystallization are obtained under these conditions.
