Multi-unit Level 1 probabilistic safety assessment: Approaches and their application to a six-unit nuclear power plant site

  • Following a surge of interest in multi-unit risk in the last few years, many recent studies have suggested methods for multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment (MUPSA) and addressed several related aspects. Most of the existing studies though focused on two-unit nuclear power plant (NPP) sites or used rather simplified probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) models to demonstrate the proposed approaches. When considering an NPP site with three or more units, some approaches are inapplicable or yield very conservative results. Since the number of such sites is increasing, there is a strong need to develop and validate practical approaches to the related MUPSA. This article provides several detailed approaches that are applicable to multi-unit Level 1 PSA for sites with up to six or more reactor units. To validate the approaches, a multi-unit Level 1 PSA model is developed and the site core damage frequency is estimated for each of four representative multi-unit initiators, as well as for the case of a simultaneous occurrence of independent single-unit initiators in multiple units. For this purpose, an NPP site with six identical OPR-1000 units is considered, with full-scale Level 1 PSA models for a specific OPR-1000 plant used as the base single-unit models.

  • 국내에서는 지반의 설계응답스펙럼을 확률론적으로 생성한 지진재해도와 결정론적으로 유도된 지진계수를적용하여 생성한다. 지진재해도와 지진계수는 호환되지 않지만, 현 설계기준은 이런 근본적인 비호환성을 무시하고 있다. 지진재해도와 지진계수를 동일한 확률론적 기반에서 생성한다면 이와 같은 문제를 극복할 수 있지만, 기존의 방법으로는 지진계수를 확률론적으로 생성할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 동반논문에서 신(新) PSHA의 결과물로써 생성된 지진기록을 입력지진파로 활용하여 1차원 등가선형 지반응답 해석을 수행하였으며 이의 결과를 기반으로 등재해스펙트럼을 생성하였다. 등재해스펙트럼의 또 한가지 장점은 지반물성치의 불확실성과 임의성이 과학적으로 고려되었다는 점이다. 등재해스펙트럼은 나아가 확률론적인 지진계수를 도출하는데 활용되었다. 확률론적인 지진계수를 내진설계기준에서 제시된 지진계수를 비교한 결과, 확률론적으로 계산된 지진계수는 결정론적으로 계산된 결과와 상당한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

황화철($FeS,\;FeS_{2}$)을 이용한 헥사클로로에탄의 환원적 분해반응과 표면특성에 관한 연구 (A Study for Reductive Degradation and Surface Characteristics of Hexachloroethane by Iron Sulfide ($FeS,\;FeS_{2}$))

  • 본 논문에서는 황화철($FeS,\;FeS_{2}$) 유기 용매의 환원적 분해 반응과의 표면특성의 관계에 대해서 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. hexachloroethane(HCA)은 수소첨가반응, 탈염소제거반응과 탈수소탈염소화반응으로 pentachloroethane(PCA), tetrachloroethylene(PCE), trichloroethylene(TCE)와 cis-1,2-dichloroethylene(cis-1,2-DCE)로 분해되었다. FeS와 $FeS_{2}$를 반응 매개물로 HCA에 대한 반응에서 FeS는 $FeS_{2}$보다 분해반응 속도가 빠르게 나타났다. FeS와 $FeS_{2}$의 표면 특성 연구에서 각 광물질에 대한 친수성 표면 자리(Ns)를 정량적으로 계산하기 위해서 비표면적 값($107.0470m^{2}/g$$92.6374m^{2}/g$)과 표면 전위를 측정에 측정된 $PH_{ZPC}(FeS,\;PH_{ZPC}=7.42,\;FeS_{2},\;PH_{ZPC}=7.80)$ 값을 이용해서 계산한 결과 FeS와 $FeS_{2}$$N_{s}$값은 각각 $0.053\;site/nm^{2},\;0.205\;site/nm^{2}$으로 나타났다. 그리고 0.2 g/L Fe광물질에 대한 실질적인 친수성 표면 농도는 각각 $3.303{\times}10^{-6}\;mol/L$$1.102{\times}10^{-5}\;mol/L$ 나타났다. $FeS_{2}$는 FeS에 비해 훨씬 친수성 표면임을 실험 결과 확인하였다. FeS와 $FeS_{2}$의 두 광물질 중에서 유기 용매의 환원 반응 속도는 FeS가 훨씬 빠르게 나타났다.

Functional properties of an alternative, tissue-specific promoter for rice NADPH-dependent dihydroflavonol reductase

  • A deletion analysis of the Oryza sativa dihydroflavonol reductase (DFR) promoter defined a 25 bp region (-386 to -362) sufficient to confer pericarp-specific expression of ${\beta}$ -glucuronidase(GUS) reporter gene in transgenic rice. Site-specific mutagenesis of these conserved sequences and subsequent expression analysis in calli which transiently expressed the mutated promoter::GUS gene showed that both bHLH (-386 to -381) and Myb (-368 to -362) binding sites in the DEL3 (-440 to 70) promoter were necessary for complete expression of the GUS gene including the tissue-specific expression of DFR::GUS gene. The GUS gene was expressed well in the mutated Myb (-368 to -362) binding site, but not as strong as in normal condition, implying that the Myb is also necessary to express GUS gene fully. Also, we found the non-epistatic relation between Rc and DFR. There were no changes of expression patterns GUS under the Rc and rc genotypes. Thus, DFR expression might be independent of the presence of functional Rc gene and suggested that Rc and Rd (DFR) share the same pathway controlling the regulation of flavonoid synthesis but not a direct positive transcriptional regulator of DFR gene.

일시적 발현을 통한 토마토 S RNase gene promoter의 발현 양상 (Expression Pattern of S RNase Gene Promoter in Various Floral Tissues of Lycopersicon peruvianum)

  • 야생종 토마토의 자가불화합성에 관여하는 S RNase유전자의 조직특이적 발현 양상을 조사하기 위하여 $\textrm{S}_{11}$$\textrm{S}_{12}$ allele에 속하는 RNase 유전자의 Promoter영역에 대한 염기 서열을 비교 분석한 결과, 전사개시점에서 상류측으로 350-500bp사이에서 양쪽 allele의 Promoter간에 상동성을 나타내는 3부분과 direct repeat sequence를 발견하였다. Promoter영역에서 이러한 부분이 S RNase 유전자가 화주특이적으로 발현하는데 영향을 줄 것으로 예상하고, 이들 영역을 중심으로 6종류의 deletion fragment를 만들어 GUS 유전자에 연결하여, 토마토의 생식조직에 microprojectile bombardment를 수행하였다. 그 결과 토마토 자가불화합성에 관여하는 S RNase 유전자의 promoter는 TATA box를 포함한 127 bP만으로도 화주조직 특이적 발현을 조절할 수 있었다. 또한 S RNase 유전자의 promoter영역내에는 토마토 화변, 자방과 심피조직들에서 negative 혹은 positive로 유전자의 발현을 유도하는 부분이 발견되었다.

경주 지역의 지반공학적 지진 민감도 분석 (Analysis of geotechnical Seismic Sensitivity in Kyeongju)

  • The earthquake hazard has been evaluated for 10km by 10km area around Kyeongju which is located near Yangsan fault and has abundant historical earthquake records. The ground motion potentials were determined based on equivalent linear analysis by using the data obtained from in situ and laboratory tests and the El centro eartqhuake record scaled to CLE and OLE of the region. The in situ tests include 9 boring investigations 2 crosshole 7 downhole 13 SASW tests and in the laboratory X-ray diffraction analyses and resonant column tests were performed. The peak ground accelerations range between 0.140g and 0.286g on CLE and between 0.051g and 0.116g on OLE respectively showing the good potential of amplification in the deep alluvial layer which is common in Kyeongju area. the response spectrum based on the Korea design guide was sometimes underestimate the motion. particularly near the natural period of the site and the importance of site-specific analysis and need for the improved site categorization method were introduced.

  • Treatment options for anastomotic recurrence occurring after Ivor Lewis operation are limited. Reoperation for resection can be technically challenging and several reports suggest a potential survival benefit from re-resection. Specific care must be taken to avoid compromise of the previously transposed conduit to not endanger its vascular supply and the recurrent nerves in either the chest or neck. We report our surgical experience of a case of esophagogastric anastomotic site recurrence occurring after Ivor Lewis operation with review of literatures.

  • This area is covered in Andesite of high compression strength and located in PUSAN SEO-KU. There are many old houses around shaft site. So, we must have a cautious blasting operation. A total of 40 blasts were test at DAE-SHIN Shaft site to study the magnitude and frequency characterization of blast-induced vibration. The effect of viblating frequency on structual damage and site-specific scaling to define th empirical equations were also discussed. The result can be summarized as follows: 1. Some empirical equations were obtained. $V=K\{{\frac{D}{W}}1/3\}^{-n}$ where the values for n and K are estimated to be -1.407 to -2.202 and 643.3489 to 7283.2104 respectively. 2. Dominant frequencies at short distance are in the range of about 75.0 to 91.8 Hz, with some exceptions of about 50Hz, Frequencies observed at long distance are in the range of 10 to 2Hz. It is apparent the shift of dominant frequency down to lower levels at long distance.

  • Glycerol-3-phosphate cytidylyltransferase from Bacillus subtilis was modified with various chemical modifiers to determine the active sites of the enzyme. Treatment of the enzyme with group-specific reagents diethylpyrocarbonate, N-bromosuccinimide, or carbodiimide resulted in complete loss of enzyme activity, which shows histidine, tryptophan, and glutamic acid or aspartic acid residues are at or near the active site. In each case, inactivation followed pseudo first-order kinetics. Inclusion of glycerol-3-phosphate and/or CTP prevented the inactivation, indicating the presence of tryptophan and glutamic acid or aspartic acid residues at the substrate binding site. Analysis of kinetics of inactivation showed that the loss of enzyme activity was due to modification of a two histidine residues, single tryptophan residue, and two glutamic acid or aspartic acid residues.

Solubilization of an Angiotensin II Binding Site from Rat Liver

  • The high affinity binding sites for angiotensin II were solubilized from rat liver membranes by treatment with CHAPS. The binding protein was also partially purified by angiotensin III inhibitor-coupled Affi-gel affinity chromatography. Binding to the intact membrances as well as to the solubilized preparation was specific and saturable. According to the Scatchard plot, the membrane preparations exhibited a single class of high affinity binding sites with a Kd OF 0.71 nM. The solubilized preparation also showed the presence of a single class of bindings sites with less affinity (Kd of 14 nM). Meanwhile the competition studies using angiotensin II analogues represented two separate binding sites for angiotensin II and single binding site for antagonist. These latter findings were correlated to the results provided by Garrison's research group. More works are needed to clarify this discrepancy.
