Analysis of Users' Inflow Route and Search Terms of the Korea National Archives' Web Site (국가기록원 웹사이트 유입경로와 이용자 검색어 분석)

  • As the users' information use environment changes to the Web, the archives are providing more services on the Web than before. This study analyzes the users' recent inflow route and the highly ranked 100 search terms of each month for 10 and half years in the Web site of National Archives of Korea, and suggests suitable information services. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that the inflow route could be divided into access from portal site, by country, from related institutions, and via mobile platform. As a result of analyzing the search terms of users for the last 10 and half years, the most frequently searched term turned out to be 'Land Survey Register', which was also the search term that was searched for with steady interests for 10 and half years. Also, other government documents or official gazettes were of great interests to users. As results of identifying the most frequently searched and steadily searched terms, we were able to categorize the search terms largely in terms of land, Japanese colonial period, the Korean war and relationship of North Korea and South Korea, and records management and use. Based on the results of the analysis, we suggested strengthening connection of the National Archives Web site with portal sites and mobile, and upgrading and improving search services of the National Archives. This study confirmed that the analysis of Web log and user search terms would yield meaningful results that could enhance the user services in archives.

User Category-Based Intelligent e-Commerce Meta-Search Engine

  • In this paper, we propose a meta-search engine which provides distributed product information through a unified access to multiple e-commerce. The meta-search engine proposed in this paper performs the following functions: (I) The user is able to create a category-based user query, (2) by using the WordNet, the query is semantical refined fined for increasing search accuracy, and (3) the meta-search engine recommends an e-commerce site which has the closest product information to the user's search intention, by matching the user query with the product catalogs in the e-commerce sites linked to the meta-search engine. An experiment shows that the performance of our model is better than that of general keyword-based search.

Search Frequency in Internet Portal Site and the Expected Stock Returns (포털사이트에서의 피검색빈도와 주식수익률)

  • NAVER provides search frequency data of search terms via its DataLab service (http://datalab.naver.com/). Using this data, this paper examines the relation between the search frequency of firm's name and its future stock returns. Our results show that the search frequency of firm's name is a new investor attention measure, which is different from previously explored attention measures such as extreme returns, turnover, etc. Firms that go through higher search frequency this week tend to have higher returns in the next week. We do not find return reversal in the long run for the firms with higher search frequency. Furthermore, the extent to which search frequency affects stock returns becomes more pronounced following market-wide attention grabbing events. Our results indicate that search frequency incorporates information for future stock returns.

Design and Implementation of RSS feed search engine for Effective Contents Service (효과적인 콘텐츠 서비스를 위한 RSS피드 검색 엔진의 설계 및 구현)

  • In the Web 2.0, besides more gaining information on the web, the number of web sites that take advantage of RSS increases explosively. Commonly each users search RSS channels through the web search engine before registering RSS channel's url to the RSS reader. Users judge whether the site is RSS channel or not and register an RSS channel's url through theirs interests. Because accomplished by users themselves, those processes conflict to user's convenience and quick consumption of information. Techniques of current search engines can't provide users with reliable RSS feed information as search results. In this paper, we analysis appropriateness of current search engines' techniques that offer users RSS feed search service and discuss their limitations. Also, we make up RSS feed database through classification of RSS tag being possible to search RSS feed information effectively and apply update rate of each RSS channel's feed to ranking algorithm providing more reliable search results.

Adolescent' Internet Utilization Status of Dietary Information in Kyungnam (경남일부 청소년의 인터넷 식생활 정보이용에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the utilization status of internet dietary information by gender(boys: 363, girls: 366) in adolescent(middle & high school students). The results were summarized as follows. The internet using frequency of 6-7times per week had 45.0% of subjects and the using time of internet per a time was shown mainly'<2hours(68.5%)'. The main place for internet use was home(79.0%) and favorite search engine was 'Yahoo'(45.7%) and 'Daum'(19.3%). As main purpose using internet were mentioned 'social intercourse'(45.0%) and data search'(24.8%). The organization that offer to reliable internet information was educational institution'(49.4%). The problems in using information site were 'poor information'(26.4%), 'slow connection speed'(22.6%), and 'don't arouse interest'(18.8%). The search experience about dietary information had only 27.9% of subjects and search purpose was 'for homework'(33.3%) and 'for health'(32.0). The satisfaction degree of dietary information was not high. The connection motive to dietary information was mainly 'by site navigation casualty'(55.7%). Only 7.7% of subjects had experience of nutrition counseling using internet, and the motive of nutrition counseling was also 'by site navigation causally'(55.8%). The purpose of counseling was 'for diet'(41.5%) and 'for health problem'(30.2%), and the satisfaction degree of counseling result was very low. As the ask of improvement for counseling site were pointed out 'poor in answer content'(44.8%) and 'lazy answer'(31.0%). The subjects wanted to get the dietary information about 'growth in status'(41.4%), 'diet related skin beauty'(14.6%), the update period less 1 month, and the way of 'free board'(32.3%), 'game'(21.1%) and 'animation'(19.3%) as offer tool. The results of this study showed that although the internet using percent and frequency of subjects was high, they used dietary information very seldom and they are dissatisfied with internet nutritional information. Therefore, the information donor should consider which dietary information was needed and what is the optimal tool for adolescent.

  • Recently various of information suppliers provide information via WWW so the necessary of search engine grows larger. However the efficiency of most search engines is low comparatively because of using simple pattern match technique between user's query and web document. And a manifest contents of query for special expert field so much worse A specialized search engine returns the specialized information depend on each user's search goal. It is trend to develop specialized search engines in many countries. For example, in America, there are a site that searches only the recently updated headline news and the federal law and the government and and so on. However, most such engines don't satisfy the user's needs. This paper proposes the specialized search engine for ocean information that uses user's query related with ocean and search engine uses the association rules in web data mining. So specialized search engine for ocean provides more information related to ocean because of raising recall about user's query

  • This study was performed in two ways, which are 'Before' 'After' carrying out trench search through GPR which is called 'Non Destructive Geophysical' to the expected area where the remains of historic interest could be distributed within the construction site from Dae-gu to Busan. As a result, the layer containing gravel and sand has more irregular specular surface then others containing silt and clay. And, this paper, irregular specular surfaces of prominence and depression patter appeared. After performing trench search, verified that the site yield dolmens and lots of stone implements.

Determinants of Online Price Sensitivity Using Web Log Data (웹 로그 데이터를 이용한 온라인 소비자의 가격민감도 영향 요인에 관한 연구)

  • This paper empirically analyzed consumer price search behavior using Web log data of a Korean web site for price comparison. Consumer click-stream data of the site was used to test the effects of price level, product category, third party certification, reputation of retailers on click behavior. According to the descriptive statistics, 67.4% of shopbot users clicked the offer which was the lowest price returned in a search. We found that third party certification and reputation of retailers were significant determinants of clicking the lowest priced offer from legit analysis. We also applied Tobit regression analysis to estimate the price premium of the two determinants, but only reputation of retailers was found to have price premium of 4.9%.

Distributed Database Design using Evolutionary Algorithms

  • The performance of a distributed database system depends particularly on the site-allocation of the fragments. Queries access different fragments among the sites, and an originating site exists for each query. A data allocation algorithm should distribute the fragments to minimize the transfer and settlement costs of executing the query plans. The primary cost for a data allocation algorithm is the cost of the data transmission across the network. The data allocation problem in a distributed database is NP-complete, and scalable evolutionary algorithms were developed to minimize the execution costs of the query plans. In this paper, quadratic assignment problem heuristics were designed and implemented for the data allocation problem. The proposed algorithms find near-optimal solutions for the data allocation problem. In addition to the fast ant colony, robust tabu search, and genetic algorithm solutions to this problem, we propose a fast and scalable hybrid genetic multi-start tabu search algorithm that outperforms the other well-known heuristics in terms of execution time and solution quality.

A Study on Service Integration of Research Information and Dictionary in Portal Site (포털사이트의 사전과 학술정보 연계 검색 방안 연구)

  • Internet portals have been revolutionized not only as simple search engines but also as a new space for the Internet users. They have developed to give satisfying search results for academic information users. academic fields. However, their attention was given to the quantity rather than the quality of the results. This tendency is now changing. This study addresses the problems in the search process using the current portal sites and presents an integrated scholarly information service where users can access more organized and trustworthy information linked with online technical keyword dictionary. When a user enter a keyword on a portal site, he/she can access to high quality scholarly information resources linked with keyword. This could assure the user to get an expanded knowledge with confirmation.
