The lead zirconate titanate (PZT) powders were synthesized to make the piezoelectric ceramics in low temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. To investigate the influence of additives on sintering of PZT, two kinds of sintering aids were made as follows; $wB_2O_3-xBi_2O_3-zCuO$and LiBiO2-CuO. The sintering aid, $1{\sim}3$ wt.% $LiBiO_2-CuO$, was added into these PZT powders and the specimens were fired at temperature in the range of $800{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$. The highest density was shown in the specimen with 1 wt.% $LiBiO_2-CuO$ as additive at temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. The sintered specimen were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized to observe the microstructure, especially the densified morphology of specimens. In the XRD pattern, the well-crystallized PZT phase could be obtained in consequence of firing at $900^{\circ}C$. The scanning electron microscopy(SEM) was utilized to observe the structure of specimens after firing at $900^{\circ}C$. The densified perovskite structure of $PbZrTiO_3$ could be obtained by sintering at temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. The high sinterability of PZT ceramics was attributed to the low formation temperature of the liquid phase of additives.
$\beta$-Sialon powder was prepared by the reduction-nitridation reaction from the mixture of Wando Pyrophyllite and carbon black at 135$0^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere. $\beta$-SiC powder was added to the prepared $\beta$-Sialon powder to make $\beta$-Sialon-SiC composite. The $\beta$-Sialon-SiC composites were sintered pressurelessly at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h, using $Y_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$(monoclinic) as sintering aids. Comparatively higher values of the fracture toughness (3.8 MN/㎥/2), M.O.R. (470 MN/$m^2$) and vickers microhardness (13.7 MN/$m^2$) were obtained when 10 wt% $Y_2O_3$ was added as a sintering aid. The improved fracture toughness and M.O.R. are assumed to be the results of crack deflection and crack branching by the second phase SiC particles.

Relative density and microstructure of the pressureless sintered TiC-$TiB_2$ composite has been studied. The maximum sintered density was 95% and the critical amounts of sintering aids were 1 wt% Fe and 3 wt% Ni. It was found that TiC matrix phase inhibited effectively grain growth of the dispersed $TiB_2$ phase. The TEM investigation reveals that the Ni-rich precipitates were solidified from the liquid phase, confirmed by the presence of the waved and/or step phase boundaries. The precipitates also acts as the origin of the dislocation formation in the matrix phases.
${\beta}$-SiC powder and ${\alpha}$-SiC powders of different particle sizes, containing 5.7wt% $Al_2O_3$ and 4.3wt% $Y_2O_3$ as sintering aids, were hot-pressed at $1780^{\circ}C$ and subsequently annealed at $1950^{\circ}C$ to initiate grain growth. All the hot-pressed and annealed materials consisted of large SiC grains and elongated SiC grains. Typical hardness and fracture toughness of materials for spectacle lens cutting were 15.6 GPa and $5.7MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively.
AlN-BN ceramics with BN contents in the range of 10 to 40 wt% were prepared by hot pressing using no additive, or 3 wt%, Y2O3 or CaO, which are common densification aids for AlN. And their machinability, bend strength, and microstructures were investigated. Both the main and radial cutting forces decreased with increasing BN content in all three kinds of samples. For the BN contents of 30 wt% or above, the cutting forces were lower than that of a mild steel tested at a same condition. Especially in the case of main forces, the values were less than a quarter of that of a mild steel, indicating excellent machinability. Bend strength (when the tensile surfaces of specimens were perpendicular to the hot pressing direction) also decreased with BN content mainly due to the much lower Young's modulus of BN compared to AlN. With the composition of 30 wt% BN at which the AlN-BN ceramics started to show better machinability than a mild steel, the bend strength was 150 to 160 MPa, which is greater than that of machinable glass-ceramics of a mica system. With tensile surfaces parallel to the hot pressing direction, however, the bend strength obtained for the samples processed with the sintering acids showed low values (about 40 MPa), since most BN particles had such orientation that their cleavage planes (i.e., basal planes) were perpendicular to the pressing direction.

In this paper, in order to develop optimum composition ceramics with excellent piezoelectric properties, $(Na_{0.525}K_{0.443}Li_{0.037})(Nb_{0.823}Sb_{0.08}Ta_{0.037})O_3+0.3wt%Bi_2O_3+0.4wt%Fe_2O_3$ lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were synthesized by conventional soild-state method. The calcination temperature of columbite precursors were fabricated at temperature range from $950^{\circ}C$ to $1,150^{\circ}C$ and sintering aids with low melting point were added to densify these ceramics. Effect of calcination temperature on dielectric and piezoelectric properties of ceramics were investigated. the ceramics with B-site columbite precursors at temperature of $1,100^{\circ}C$ obtained the optimal values of $d_{33}=272$ [pC/N], $k_p=0.51$, $Q_m=102$, ${\varepsilon}_r=978$.

The properties of powder metallurgy products are related to their densities. In the present work, we demonstrate a method to apply artificial neural networks (ANNs) trained on experimental data to predict the bulk density of barium titanates. The density is modeled as a function of pressure, press rate, heating rate, sintering temperature, and soaking time using the ANN method. The model predictions with the training and testing data result in a high coefficient of correlation (R2 = 0.95 and Pearson's r = 0.97) and low average error. Moreover, a graphical user interface for the model is developed on the basis of the transformed weights of the optimally trained model. It facilitates the prediction of an infinite combination of process parameters with reasonable accuracy. Sensitivity analysis performed on the ANN model aids the identification of the impact of process parameters on the density of barium titanates.

$SiC/Si_3N_4$ composites were prepared by mixing ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder to $\alpha$-SiC powder in the range of 10 to 30 vol% with 10 vol% interval. 6 wt% of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ were also added respectively as sintering aids. Then, pressureless sintering was performed at 1,78$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in $N_2$ gas. In the case of adding 20 vol% of ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder, the relative desity to theoretical value and the flexutal strength were 92 % and 3,560 MPa, respectively. The smallest relative worn amount thereof was $2.68{\times}10^{-3}\;mm^2$ for 20 vol% ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$. The composite containing 30 vol % of ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder showed the highest fracture toughness $(K_{1c})$ of $4.9\;MN/m^{3/2}$, although the reduction of the wear resistance due to the effect of the pores was observed.

Effect of cobalt substitution on the sintering behavior and magnetic properties of a NiZnCu ferrite was studied. $Ni_{0.36-x}Co_xZn_{0.44}Cu_{0.22}Fe_{1.98}O_4(0{\leq}x{\leq}0.04)$ ferrite was fabricated by a solid stat reaction method. It was proposed and experimentally verified that $Co^{2+}$ substituted NiZnCu ferrite was effective on improving the quality factor and magnetic properties of NiZnCu ferrites for multilayer chip inductors. The ferrite was sintered without sintering aids, at $880{\sim}920^{\circ}C$, for 2 h and the initial permeability, quality factor, density, shrinkage, saturation magnetization, and coercivity were also measured. The quality factor (Q) was increased linearly up to x = 0.01 and decreased rapidly over x = 0.01. As the cobalt content increased, the initial permeability and density of the ferrites decreases. The initial permeability of toroidal sample for $Ni_{0.35}Co_{0.01}Zn_{0.44}Cu_{0.22}Fe_{1.98}O_4$ ferrites sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ was 130 at 1 MHz and quality factor was 230.

BNKT Ceramics, one of the representative Pb free based piezoelectric ceramics, constitutes a perovskite(ABO3) structure. At this time, the perovskite structure (ABO3) is in the form where the corners of the octahedrons are connected, and in the unit cell, two ions, A and B, are cations, A ion is located at the body center, B ion is located at each corner, and an anion O is located at the center of each side. Since Bi, Na, and K sources constituting the A site are highly volatile at a sintering temperature of 1100℃ or higher, it is difficult to maintain uniformity of the composition. In order to solve this problem, there should be suppression of volatilization of the A site material or additional compensation of the volatilized. In this study, the basic composition of BNKT Ceramics was set to Bi0.5(Na0.78K0.22)0.5TiO3 (= BNKT), and volatile site (Bi, Na, and K sources) were coated in the form of a shell to compensate additionally for the A site ions. In addition, the physical and electrical properties of BNKT and its coated with shell additives(= @BNK) were compared and analyzed, respectively. As a result of analyzing the crystal structure through XRD, both BNKT(Core) and @BNK(Shell) had perovskite phases, and the crystallinity was almost similar. Although the Curie temperature of the two sintered bodies was almost the same (TC = 290 ~ 300 ℃), it was confirmed that the d33 (piezoelectric coefficient) and Pr (residual polarization) values were different. The experimental results indicated that the additional compensation for a shell additive causes the coarsening, resulting in a decrease in sintering density and Pr(remanent polarization). However, coating shell additives to compensate for A site ion is an effective way to suppress volatilization. Based on these experimental results, it would be the biggest advantage to develop an eco-friendly material (Lead-free) that replaced lead (Pb), which is harmful to the human body. This lead-free piezoelectric material can be applied to a biomedical device or products(ex. earphones (hearing aids), heart rate monitors, ultrasonic vibrators, etc.) and skin beauty improvement products (mask packs for whitening and wrinkle improvement).
