Energy-based seismic design of structures with buckling-restrained braces

  • A simplified seismic design procedure for steel structures with buckling-restrained braces (BRB) was proposed based on the energy balance concept and the equal energy assumption. The input seismic energy was estimated from a design spectrum, and the elastic and hysteretic energy were computed using energy balance concept. The size of braces was determined so that the hysteretic energy demand was equal to the hysteretic energy dissipated by the BRB. The validity of using equivalent single-degree-of-freedom systems to estimate seismic input and hysteretic energy demand in multi story structures with BRB was investigated through time-history analysis. The story-wise distribution pattern of hysteretic energy demands was also obtained and was applied in the design process. According to analysis results, the maximum displacements of the 3-story structure designed in accordance with the proposed procedure generally coincided with the target displacements on the conservative side. The maximum displacements of the 6- and 8-story structures, however, turned out to be somewhat smaller than the target values due to the participation of higher vibration modes.

Davidenko법에 의한 시간최적 제어문제의 수치해석해 (The Numerical Solution of Time-Optimal Control Problems by Davidenoko's Method)

  • A general procedure for the numerical solution of coupled, nonlinear, differential two-point boundary-value problems, solutions of which are crucial to the controller design, has been developed and demonstrated. A fixed-end-points, free-terminal-time, optimal-control problem, which is derived from Pontryagin's Maximum Principle, is solved by an extension of Davidenko's method, a differential form of Newton's method, for algebraic root finding. By a discretization process like finite differences, the differential equations are converted to a nonlinear algebraic system. Davidenko's method reconverts this into a pseudo-time-dependent set of implicitly coupled ODEs suitable for solution by modern, high-performance solvers. Another important advantage of Davidenko's method related to the time-optimal problem is that the terminal time can be computed by treating this unkown as an additional variable and sup- plying the Hamiltonian at the terminal time as an additional equation. Davidenko's method uas used to produce optimal trajectories of a single-degree-of-freedom problem. This numerical method provides switching times for open-loop control, minimized terminal time and optimal input torque sequences. This numerical technique could easily be adapted to the multi-point boundary-value problems.

컨택트 작업 시 햅틱 인터렉션의 투명성 향상을 위한 Virtual Coupling 기법의 설계 (Toward Transparent Virtual Coupling for Haptic Interaction during Contact Tasks)

  • Since its introduction (e.g., [4, 6]), virtual coupling technique has been de facto way to connect a haptic device with a virtual proxy for haptic rendering and control. However, because of the single dependence on spring-damper feedback action, this virtual coupling suffers from the degraded transparency particularly during contact tasks when large device/proxy-forces are involved. In this paper, we propose a novel virtual coupling technique, which, by utilizing passive decomposition, reduces device-proxy position deviation even during the contact tasks while also scaling down (or up) the apparent inertia of the coordinated device-proxy. By doing so, we can significantly improve transparency between multiple degree of freedom (possibly nonlinear) haptic device and virtual proxy. In other to use passive decomposition, disturbance observer of [3] is adopted to estimate human force with some dead-zone modification to avoid "winding-up" force estimation in the presence of device torque saturation. Some preliminary experimental results are also given to illustrate efficacy of the proposed technique.

Online correction of drift in structural identification using artificial white noise observations and an unscented Kalman Filter

  • In recent years the monitoring of structural behavior through acquisition of vibrational data has become common practice. In addition, recent advances in sensor development have made the collection of diverse dynamic information feasible. Other than the commonly collected acceleration information, Global Position System (GPS) receivers and non-contact, optical techniques have also allowed for the synchronous collection of highly accurate displacement data. The fusion of this heterogeneous information is crucial for the successful monitoring and control of structural systems especially when aiming at real-time estimation. This task is not a straightforward one as measurements are inevitably corrupted with some percentage of noise, often leading to imprecise estimation. Quite commonly, the presence of noise in acceleration signals results in drifting estimates of displacement states, as a result of numerical integration. In this study, a new approach based on a time domain identification method, namely the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), is proposed for correcting the "drift effect" in displacement or rotation estimates in an online manner, i.e., on the fly as data is attained. The method relies on the introduction of artificial white noise (WN) observations into the filter equations, which is shown to achieve an online correction of the drift issue, thus yielding highly accurate motion data. The proposed approach is demonstrated for two cases; firstly, the illustrative example of a single degree of freedom linear oscillator is examined, where availability of acceleration measurements is exclusively assumed. Secondly, a field inspired implementation is presented for the torsional identification of a tall tower structure, where acceleration measurements are obtained at a high sampling rate and non-collocated GPS displacement measurements are assumed available at a lower sampling rate. A multi-rate Kalman Filter is incorporated into the analysis in order to successfully fuse data sampled at different rates.

  • An efficient and high-fidelity design approach for wing-body shape optimization is presented. Depending on the size of design space and the number of design of variable, aerodynamic shape optimization process is carried out via different optimization strategies at each design stage. In the first stage, global optimization techniques are applied to planform design with a few geometric design variables. In the second stage, local optimization techniques are used for wing surface design with a lot of design variables to maintain a sufficient design space with a high DOF (Degree of Freedom) geometric change. For global optimization, Kriging method in conjunction with Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used. Asearching algorithm of EI (Expected Improvement) points is introduced to enhance the quality of global optimization for the wing-planform design. For local optimization, a discrete adjoint method is adopted. By the successive combination of global and local optimization techniques, drag minimization is performed for a multi-body aircraft configuration while maintaining the baseline lift and the wing weight at the same time. Through the design process, performances of the test models are remarkably improved in comparison with the single stage design approach. The performance of the proposed design framework including wing planform design variables can be efficiently evaluated by the drag decomposition method, which can examine the improvement of various drag components, such as induced drag, wave drag, viscous drag and profile drag.

다층 비좌굴 가새골조와 등가 단자유도계의 에너지 요구량의 비교 (Comparison of Energy Demand in Multi-Story Buckling Restrained Braced Frame and Equivalent SDOF System)

  • 비선형 정적해석 및 에너지를 이용한 설계방법에서는 구조물을 등가의 단자유도계로 치환하여 해석하는 것이 일반적이다. 본 연구에서는 지진하중에 의한 3층, 8층, 20층 철골 모멘트저항골조(MRF), 비좌굴 가새골조(BRBF)와 힌지접합 비좌굴 가새골조 (DTBF) 구조물의 에너지 요구량을 등가 단자유도계 시스템(ESDOF)의 에너지 요구량과 비교하여 등가단자유도계로 치환하는 방법의 타당성을 검토하였다 입력에너지와 이력에너지를 산정하기 위하여 연암 지반, 연약한 토사, 단층 근처의 지반에서 계측된 60개의 지진을 사용하였으며, 모드 질량계수가 0.8보다 작은 경우 ESDOF로 변환할 때 고차모드의 효과를 고려하였다. 연구결과에 따르면 3층과 8층 MRF와 DTBF에서의 이력에너지와 입력에너지는 ESDOF의 해석결과와 비교적 잘 일치하였다. 그러나 20층 BRBF에서는 ESDOF의 결과가 본 구조물의 결과를 과소평가하는 것으로 나타났다.

복수 무인기 운용을 위한 적응형 지상체 개발 및 운용자 과부하 분석 (Development of Adaptive Ground Control System for Multi-UAV Operation and Operator Overload Analysis)

  • 일반적인 지상통제 시스템은 단일 무인항공기 운용을 위한 통제 및 정보 전시 기능을 갖추고 있다. 현대에서는 단일 지상통제 시스템을 사용하여 복수 무인항공기의 운용이 요구되고 있다. 이로 인하여 무인기 운용자는 과거보다 다양한 임무 수행이 요구되며, 임무 수행 중 다양한 요인에 의하여 임무과부하를 받게 된다. 본 연구에서는 복수무인기 운용자의 임무과부하 측정을 통해 운용자의 상태를 반영한 적응형 지상통제 시스템을 제안한다. 복수무인기를 운용할 수 있는 지상통제 소프트웨어를 개발하고, 또한 시뮬레이터를 구성하여 운용자가 지상통제 시스템의 운용을 통해 시스템의 기능을 검증한다. 적응형 지상체 실험을 분석한 결과, 비적응형 지상체 실험 결과와 대비하여 운용자의 동공지름이 감소하고, 임무 성능이 증가하는 등 적응형 지상체의 효용성을 확인하였다.

  • 가스 생산용 해양플랜트 설비에서 발생할 수 있는 폭발사고의 경우, 구조 시스템의 기하학적 특성이나, 바람, 가스 누출율 등과 같은 환경적 조건에 의해 피해 규모의 범위가 상당하다. 따라서 폭발파에 의한 구조 부재의 응답을 분석하기 위해서는 이러한 조건들을 고려한 가스폭발 수치해석 과정이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 FPSO 탑사이드의 형상 및 장비 배치와 같은 세부적인 부분까지 고려하여 폭발해석을 수행하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 획득한 하중 이력들의 특성을 분석하였다. 또한 다양한 형태로 나타나는 폭발하중 이력들 중 구조물 손상에 직접적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있는 최대 압력과 지속시간들을 고려하여 유한요소해석 시 하중조건으로 적용한 후, 부재의 응답특성에 관한 분석을 수행하였다. 유한요소해석 모델은 실제 구조물에 적용이 가능하고, 복잡한 형상을 이상화한 단 자유도 및 다 자유도 모델을 사용하였다. 정 압력 및 부 압력단계의 최대 압력이 증가함에 따라 구조 부재의 최대 응답이 증가하였고, 부 압단계에서 하중 지속시간이 증가함에 따라 구조물의 최대 변위가 증가는 경향을 보였다.

  • Ground motion records are commonly used for fragility curves (FCs) developing utilized in seismic loss estimating analysis for earthquake prone zones. These records could be 'real', say the recorded acceleration time series or 'simulated' records consistent with the regional seismicity and produced by use of alternative simulation methods. This study has focused on fragility curves developing for masonry buildings through computational 'simulated' ground motion records while evaluating the properness of these fragilities compared to the curves generated by the use of 'real' records. Assessing the dynamic responses of structures, nonlinear computational time history analyses through the equivalent single degree of freedom systems have been implemented on OpenSees platform. Accordingly, computational structural analyses of multi-story 3D frame structures with different stiffening members considering soil interaction have been carried out with finite element software according to (1992) Earthquake East-West component. The obtained results have been compared to each frame regarding soil interaction. Conclusion and recommendations with the discuss of obtaining findings are presented.

건축구조물의 층전단력 분포에 기초한 마찰감쇠기의 최적설계 (Optimal Design of Friction Dampers based on the Story Shear Force Distribution of a Building Structure)

  • 본 연구에서는 지진하중을 받는 탄성구조물을 대상으로 층전단력 분포에 기초한 마찰감쇠기의 설계방법을 제시하였다. 먼저 마찰감쇠기의 슬립하중(slip-load)을 정규화하는 방법 별로 단자유도 시스템의 수치해석을 수행하고 비교하였다. 이를 통해 슬립하중과 가새 강성의 영향을 파악하였으며, 설치용 가새와 원구조물의 최적강성비를 찾았다. 다음으로는 다양한 고유주기와 층수를 갖는 구조물을 대상으로 수치해석을 통해 마찰감쇠기의 설치 층수와 위치의 결정방법 및 슬립하중의 분배 방법을 도출하였다. 이 과정에서 설치 층수가 포함된 성능지수를 사용하여 슬립하중의 총합으로부터 최적의 설치 층수를 도출하는 경험식을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 실제 지진하중을 사용한 수치해석을 통해 기존의 최적설계 방법과 비교하여 제안된 방법의 우수성을 입증하였다.
