  • The species Orchomenella littoralis Nagata, 1965 belong to the family Tryphosidae Lowry & Stoddart, 1997. Previously this species was only known from a single record identified in Japanese waters, and newly recorded from Baengnyeongdo-Island, on the west coast of Korea. The species is similar to Orchomene breviceps Hirayama, 1986 in carrying posteroventral teeth on epimeron 3. However, O. littoralis is characterized by the presence of 4-7 posteroventral teeth of epimeron 3, a round posterodistal lobe of coxa 4, and elongated antenna 2 in male. The species is described and fully illustrated in the present study. Also, a key to Korean Orchomenella species is provided.

  • During the course of analysing both single-dish and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) data obtained from the Korean VLBI Network (KVN), we found a systematic offset between flux density measurements from different antennas. We were able to attribute a majority of the systematic offsets to changes in the "a priori" antenna gains, which were found to have varied up to 10 percent at 22 GHz and up to 30 percent at 43 GHz. Using historical calibrator observations, we present a revised set of gains that may be applied to KVN data taken from 2015 August to 2019 January. Application of the revised gains to the KVN results in a consistency of correlated flux density measurements between the three baselines of approximately five percent. We found that images from the recalibrated data typically have a 50 percent higher dynamic range, with some cases showing an increase of dynamic range of up to a factor of three.

  • In urban areas it can be difficult to utilize global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) due to signal reflections and blockages. It is thus crucial to detect reflected or blocked signals because they lead to significant degradation of GNSS positioning accuracy. In a previous study, a classifier for global positioning system (GPS) signal reception conditions was developed using three features and the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. However, this classifier had limitations in its classification performance. Therefore, in this study, we developed an improved machine learning based method of classifying GPS signal reception conditions by including an additional feature with the existing features. Furthermore, we applied various machine learning classification algorithms. As a result, when tested with datasets collected in different environments than the training environment, the classification accuracy improved by nine percentage points compared to the existing method, reaching up to 58%.

  • This paper proposes a new communication system for e-learning applications to mitigate the negative impacts of COVID-19 where the online massive demands impact the current commu-nications systems infrastructures and capabilities. The proposed system utilizes high-altitude platforms (HAPs) for fast and efficient connectivity provision to bridge the communication in-frastructure gap in the current pandemic. The system model is investigated, and its performance is analyzed using adaptive antenna arrays to achieve high quality and high transmission data rates at the student premises. In addition, the single beam and multibeam HAP radio coverage scenarios are examined using tapered uniform concentric circular arrays to achieve feasible communication link requirements.

  • This paper concentrates on developing and analyzing an advanced space-time multiuser receiver for WCDMA forward link. Through exploring the interference caused by co-channel users and delayed multipaths in CDMA, a constrained linear adaptive filter is adopted to cancel the interference. Furthermore, by utilizing the space-time diversity, an optimum diversity receiver, called a constrained adaptive space-time interference canceller (C-ASTIC), is proposed. For comparison, the statistical analysis of multiuser performance for WCDMA system with space-time diversity is described. The result of the simulation showed that C-ASTIC performs better than both the space-time diversity combining maximal ratio combiner (MRC) and the single-antenna adaptive interference canceller in a multipath fading channel. Also, the efficiency of the C-ASTIC in the multimedia communication environment is investigated under the multiuser, multi-transmit antenna, and multirate WCDMA system in a multipath fading channel. From the results, the C-ASTIC was validated to be useful for multi-rate WCDMA system through improving the performance gain by more than 3 dB at BER of 10$\^$-3/ in a half or more loaded system.

  • We designed and fabricated a semiconductor optical amplifier-integrated dual-mode laser (SOA-DML) as a compact and widely tunable continuous-wave terahertz (CW THz) beat source, and a pin-photodiode (pin-PD) integrated with a log-periodic planar antenna as a CW THz emitter. The SOA-DML chip consists of two distributed feedback lasers, a phase section for a tunable beat source, an amplifier, and a tapered spot-size converter for high output power and fiber-coupling efficiency. The SOA-DML module exhibits an output power of more than 15 dBm and clear four-wave mixing throughout the entire tuning range. Using integrated micro-heaters, we were able to tune the optical beat frequency from 380 GHz to 1,120 GHz. In addition, the effect of benzocyclobutene polymer in the antenna design of a pin-PD was considered. Furthermore, a dual active photodiode (PD) for high output power was designed, resulting in a 1.7-fold increase in efficiency compared with a single active PD at 220 GHz. Finally, herein we successfully show the feasibility of the CW THz system by demonstrating THz frequency-domain spectroscopy of an ${\alpha}$-lactose pellet using the modularized SOA-DML and a PD emitter.

  • We introduce a hybrid scheduling in a multi-path poor scattering full-duplex (FD) system, which consists of one multi-antenna FD base station and a large number of single-antenna half-duplex mobile stations. Our hybrid scheduling utilizes partial channel state information at the transmitter. In particular, unlike the conventional scheduling method using opportunistic transmission for both uplink and downlink, the proposed scheme combines a random transmit beamforming for downlink and a zero forcing beamforming for uplink. As our main result, via computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed scheme has a superior sum-rate performance than that of the conventional scheduling method beyond a certain signal-to-noise ratio regime.

  • In this paper, a monopulse fled for three mode $2{\times}2$ array feed horn antenna was designed. Gain of single feed was 8.25dB. Increasing property of gain and rectangular waveguide and reflection of free space is decreased because it has structure extending to electric plane at connected part from transformation to free space. When fled port1 and port2 is placed vertically and thickness of aperture hem is reduced, isolation is satisfied with property of lower -25dB. Also, at higher frequency, it is confirmed that isolation is improved. Combination of electric field occurs less influence because port1 and port3 is placed horizontally and distribution of electric field is connected to parallel. However, because of combination of electric field, it is more improved from 2dB to 6dB than isolation of port1 and port2. Direct combination occult less effect at port1 and port4 than effect of port2 and port3, it is lower -35dB.

  • Recent works on ad hoc network study have shown that achievable throughput can be made to scale linearly with the number of receive antennas even if the transmitter has only a single antenna. In this paper, we propose a non-parametric linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) receiver for achieving further gain in performance when the channel state information at receiver (CSIR) of interferers is imperfect. The key feature to make our approach effective is to exploit the autocorrelation of the received signal. In fact, by incorporating the desired channel information on top of the observations including interference and noise only, the proposed method achieves large fraction of the optimal MMSE transmission capacity without transmission rate loss. From the SINR analysis as well as transmission capacity simulations in realistic ad hoc network system, we show that the proposed non-parametric linear MMSE receiver brings substantial performance gain over existing multiple receive antenna algorithms.

  • In this paper, when two sets of cross-eye jammer antennas are installed vertically to jam a monopulse radar, the jamming effects according to the jammer's phase difference, amplitude ratio, and radar angle of engagement are analyzed. The phase difference and amplitude ratio of the cross-eye jammer can be adjusted in the jammer, but since the angle of engagement is relatively determined by the radar, it is very important to respond to changes in the angle of engagement. The orthogonally deployed jammer antennas can be considered as a good way to increase the jamming effect while minimizing the hardware configuration, and the jamming effect is analyzed while changing the angle of inclination from 0° to 360°. This jammer greatly improves the jamming effects at the angles of incidence 45°~135° and 225°~315°, compared to a single jammer. And it is expected to be useful in the design of cross-eye jammers for military aircraft and ships.
