In this study, the linear viscoelastic response of a rectangular laminated plate is investigated. The viscoelastic properties, expressed by two basic spring-dashpot models, that is Kelvin and Maxwell models, is assumed in the range to investigate the influence of viscoelastic coefficients to mechanical behavior. In the present study, viscoelastic responses are performed for two popular equivalent single-layered theories, such as the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT). Compliance and relaxation modulus of time-dependent viscoelastic behavior are approximately determined by Prony series. The constitutive equation for linear viscoelastic material as the Boltzmann superposition integral equation is simplified by the convolution theorem of Laplace transformation to avoid direct time integration as well as to improve both accuracy and computational efficiency. The viscoelastic responses of composite laminates in the real time domain are obtained by applying the inverse Laplace transformation. The numerical results of viscoelastic phenomena such as creep, cyclic creep and recovery creep are presented.
Multi plume effects on the base heating have been Investigated with a CFD program. As the flight altitude increases, the plume expansion angle increases regardless of the single or clustered engine. The plume interaction of the clustered engine makes a high temperature thermal shear in the center of four plumes. At low altitude, the high temperature shear flow stays in the center of plumes, but it increases up to engine base with the increasing altitude. At high altitude, the flow from plume to base and the flow from base into outer free stream are supersonic, which transfers the high heat in the center of plumes to the base region. The radiative heat of the clustered engine varies from 220 kW/m² to 469 kW/m² with increasing altitude while those of the single engine are 10 kW/m² and 43.7 kW/m². And the base temperature of the clustered engine varies from 985K to 1223K, and those of the single engine are 483K and 726K. This big radiative heat of clustered engine can be explained by the active high temperature base flow and strong plume interactions.

In this study, a computer program to predict the behavior of laterally loaded single pile and pile groups was developed by using a beam-column analysis in which the soils are modeled as nonlinear springs by a family of p-y curves for subgrade modulus. The special attention was given to the lateral displacement of a single pile and pile groups due to the soil condition and the cap rigidity. The analysis considering group effect was carried out for $2{\times}2$ and $3{\times}3$ pile groups with the pile spacing 3.0B, 4.0B and 5.0B. Based on the results obtained, it is found that the overall distributions of deflection, slope, moment, and shear force in a single pile give a reasonable results irrespective of cap connectivity conditions. It is also found that even though there are some deviations in deflection prediction compared with the observed ones, the prediction by present analysis simulates much better the general trend observed by the centrifuge tests than the numerical solution predicted by PIGLET.
In this work, an Ar+ beam was irradiated on carbon fiber surfaces to improve the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of the resulting composites using an ion assisted reaction (IAR) method h single fiber pull-out test was executed to investigate the basic characteristics of the single Carbon fiber/matrix interface. Based on Greszczuk's geometrical model, the debonding force for pull-out of the fiber from the resins was discussed with the applied ion beam energy as a result, it was known that an ion beam treatment produced the functional groups on fiber surface and etching lines along the fiber axis direction, resulting in increasing the adhesion forces between fibers and matrix, which caused the improvement of the IFSS in a composite system. And, it was also found that the maximum IFSS was shown at 0.8 keV ion beam energy in this system.

Structural vibrations generated by earthquakes and wind loads can be controlled by varying the structural parameters such as mass, stiffness, damping ratio, and geometry and providing a certain amount of passive or active reaction forces. A Double-Tuned Mass Dampers (DTMDs) system, which is simple and more effective than the conventional single tuned mass damper (TMD) system for vibration mitigation is presented. Two TMDs tuned to the first two natural frequencies were used to control vibrations. Experimental investigations were carried out on a three degrees-of-freedom frame model to investigate the effectiveness of DTMDs systems in controlling displacements, accelerations, and base shear. Numerical models were developed and validated against the experimental results. The validation showed a good match between the experimental and numerical results. The validated model was employed to investigate the behavior of a five degrees-of-freedom shear building structure, wherein mass dampers with different mass ratios were considered. The effectiveness of the DTMDs system was investigated for harmonic, seismic, and white noise base excitations. The proposed system was capable of significantly reducing the story displacements, accelerations, and base shears at the first and second natural frequencies, as compared to conventional single TMD.

Numerical analysis of shear walls governed by flexural behavior is conducted for the seismic control performance of proposed friction dampers installed at the center of coupling beams. Control effectiveness of shear walls connected by beams with the proposed dampers are compared for single shear wall with same flexural rigidity. Average responses of the shear walls with the dampers are found with seven scaled-downed earthquakes based on KEC 2005 design spectrum. Slip load is the most important design parameter. It is designed to be 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90% of total vertical shear force at damper location to prevent damper slip in specific stories. Nonlinear time-history analysis is conducted by using SeismoStruct analysis program. Seismic control performance of the dampers is evaluated for base shear, energy dissipation, curvature and top-floor displacement. Results show that the dampers are the most effective in reducing the responses when their total slip load is 30% of total vertical shear force.

Notification 2013-611 of MOLIT has come into effect. It relates primarily to new standard impact source. In this study, an in-depth experimental analysis of the difference between a bang machine and an impact ball was performed via field testing of shear wall and flat plate structure at 51 sites. This paper focuses on the difference in single number quantities between a bang machine and an impact ball. At wall thicknesses of 180 and 210 mm in shear wall structure, the single number quantities exhibited differences of 3.1 and 4.5 dB, respectively, and at thicknesses exceeding 250 mm in flat plate structure, the difference was constant at 4.6 dB. With regard to flat plate structures, the single-index difference increased up to 11 dB as the thickness of the floor slab increased. In general, the highest level of contribution for the bang machine was 63 Hz, irrespective of thickness determining bandwidth. The highest level for the impact ball were 63 Hz and 125 Hz. In future research, when reviewing additional field performance measurement data, it will be necessary to consider a detailed examination instead of the current method of uniformly adding 3 dB for all thicknesses and types of structures.

Spray characteristics of single round jet with liquid nitrogen and coaxial spray with liquid nitrogen and gaseous argon were observed. Shadowgraph method was used for spray visualization, and density gradient magnitude image was used to analyse the result. In subcritical condition, irregularity of the jet surface was harder in the coaxial spray. In supercritical condition, diffusion of nitrogen injected from shear coaxial injector was faster than single jet. Jet diameter was induced by averaging images, in supercritical condition, difference of diameter of coaxial jet was rapidly decreased than that of single jet.
Microtubules (MTs) are the main part of the cytoskeleton in living eukaryotic cells. In this article, a mechanical model of MT buckling, considering the modified strain gradient theory, is analytically examined. The MT is assumed as a cylindrical beam and a new single variable trigonometric beam theory is developed in conjunction with a modified strain gradient model. The main benefit of the present formulation is shown in its new kinematic where we found only one unknown as the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, which is even less than the Timoshenko beam model. The governing equations are deduced by considering virtual work principle. The effectiveness of the present method is checked by comparing the obtained results with those reported by other higher shear deformation beam theory involving a higher number of unknowns. It is shown that microstructure-dependent response is more important when material length scale parameters are closer to the outer diameter of MTs. Also, it can be confirmed that influences of shear deformation become more considerable for smaller shear modulus and aspect ratios.
