Hydrothermal Growth of $GaPO_{4}$ Single Crystals in HCI Solution

  • The hydrothermal growth of $GaPO_{4}$ Single Crystals was carried out by the horizontal temperature gradient method. The most promising solvents for the crystal growth of $GaPO_{4}$ are $H_{3}PO_{4}$ and HCl solutions. Single crystals have been hydothermally grown at temperatures over the range $210-290^{\circ}C$ in these solutions with seed crystals. The glowth rates in HCl solution were higher than that for comparable conditions in $H_{3}PO_{4}$ solution. Morphologies of crystals grown at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$ tended to be bounded by small major rhombohedral(10$\bar{1}$1) faces. In the temperature range from 200 to $430^{\circ}C$, the single crystals have morphologies bounded by prism (10$\bar{1}$0), small major rhombohedral(10$\bar{1}$1) and minor rhombohedral(01$\bar{1}$1) faces at the early stage, and grew with well developed basal(0001) faces by increasing the growth temperature.

Barium Nitrate Single Crystals Growth by Aqueous Solution Method

  • The growing conditions of barium nitrate $Ba(NO_3)_2$ single crystals using the aqueous solution method have been studied. Supersaturation can be calculated by measuring the temperature of the solution and its equilibrium temperature. Supersaturation of $Ba(NO_3)_2$ was 0.7% at $32.0^{\circ}C$ and about 3% at $34.0^{\circ}C$. The obtained single crystals have three kind of morphology: tetrahedral, cubic, and, rarely, dodecahedral. The normal growth rate is proportional to the supersaturation; it is necessary to make the solution below 5% supersaturation in order to obtain transparent $Ba(NO_3)_2$ single crystals. The normal growth rate for {1$\bar{1}$1} faces was $2.51{\times}10^{-6}$ mm/s for the 0.7% supersaturation condition ($32.0^{\circ}C$), $6.43{\times}10^{-6}$ mm/s for the the condition of 3.0% supersaturation, and $7.01{\times}10^{-6}$ mm/s for the condition of 5.0% supersaturation. The quality of the grown crystals depends on the nature of the seed, the cooling rate employed, and the agitation of the solution. The faces of the obtained crystals have been identified uising an X-ray diffractometer. The surface diffusion is responsible for the low growth rates of the {1$\bar{1}$1} faces.

  • Piezoelectric single crystals in the ternary MPB PMN-PZ-PT system with high $T_cs$ ($T_c$ > $200\sim300^{\circ}C$) and $E_cs$($E_c$>5~10 kV/cm) were fabricated by the cost-effective solid-state crystal growth (SSCG) technique. Chemically uniform PMN-PZT single crystals were successfully grown up to 60 mm by the SSCG method and their dielectric and piezoelectric properties characterized. Compared to Bridgman PMN-PT single crystals, the high $T_c/E_c$ PMN-PZT single crystals were found to exhibit a much wider usage range with respect to electric field as well as temperature, and thus become best candidates for medical transducers, actuators, and naval applications.

  • The article is devoted to the study of some hi-and tricyclic derivatives of aziridine as materials lot newindicators of ionizing radiation. To create high sensitive materials some aspects of photo induced ring opening processes in aziridine derivatives in ethanol solutions and in polymeric matrix were studied and two steps character of the processes investigated was established. Two types of radioindicators were suggested and preliminary tested. The new way of synthesis of radiochromic derivatives of aziridine was developed and series of target compounds synthesized.

  • $LiTaO_3$ single crystal has been studied for surface acoustic wave(SAW) applications. There are two kinds of $LiTaO_3$ single crystals, stoichiometric $LiTaO_3$ (SLT) and congruent $LiTaO_3$ (CLT). These two crystals show quite different dielectrical properties, which might be related with defects in crystals. In this study, we observed the domain boundary of SLT and CLT with scanning nonlinear dielectric microscopy and discussed the stress distribution in $LiTaO_3$ single crystals.

융제법에 의한 $PbMg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3$단결정 성장 (Growth of $PbMg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3$ Single Crystals by Flux Method)

  • PbMg1/3Mb2/3Oc(PMN)은 대표적인 완화형 강유전체로 완만형상전이 거동을 연구하는데 중요한 재료로 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 양질의 PMN 단결정을 성장시킬수 있는 조건을 결정하고 미세구조를 관찰하고자 하였다. PMN 단결정을 융제법 중 자발핵생성법과 상단종자정법을 이용하여 성장하였다. PbO융제를 이용하여 2-5mm의 결정을 성장시켰고, MgO를 100% 이상 융제로 첨가하였을 때 PMN 결정만이 성장됨을 관찰하였다. Pbo-B2O3 융제를 이용하여 (001)면이 잘 발달한 결정을 얻을 수 있었다. PbO-B2O3 융제를 이용하여 상단종자정법에 의해 1cm이상의 큰 단결정을 성장하였다. 안정된 성장조건을 마련하기 위해서는 종자정의 회전속도와 냉각속도, 종자정의 방향 등의 변수를 최적화하기 위한 계속적인 실험이 필요하다. 박편으로 가공한 결정의 전자선 회절패턴을 통해 미소부위에서 Mg2+와 Nb5+가 1:1의 규칙배역을 하고 있음을 확인하였다.

융제법의 의한 $ZrO_2$ 단결정 성장 (Growth of $ZrO_2$ Single Crystal Using Flux Method)

  • $ZrO_2$ single crystals were grown by slow cooling flux method using Borax $(Na_2B_4O_7)$ and KF as flux agent. The morphology of grown crystals was observed under a petrographic microscope. And the results obtained from grow crystals were as follows : 1. $ZrO_2$ crystals grown in the present work are morphologically divided into two shapes ; tabular and den-dritic crystals. 2. The maximum size of the crystals grown reaches to $4{\times}15{\times}2mm$ on edge into length at $ZrO_2$ 15mole% Borax 50mole% and KF 35mole% 3. $ZrO_2$ single crystals grown by flux method have monoclinc structure. 4. The content of KF as flux agents was limited by 60mole% KF. Since alumina crucible was heavily damaged by increasing KF content.

Floating Zone법에 의한 Rutile($TiO_2$)단결정 육성 (Growth of Rutile Single Crystal by Floating Zone Method)

  • Rutile(TiO2) single crystals were grown by FZ method. Feed rod was sintered in the longitudinal tube-shaped furnace at 135$0^{\circ}C$ and optimum growth condition was growth rate 5-8mm/hr, rotation rate 30-40rpm. When crystal was growing, atomosphere was oxidized condition, and grown single crystal was annealed at 110$0^{\circ}C$. The rutile single crystals were oriented to [001] direction and color change of single crystals were related to atmosphere, and difference of electric conductivity and resistance was due to the fact above.
