In a HTS transformer, the perpendicular component of magnetic flux density ($B_r$) applied to HTS tapes of pancake windings becomes larger than that of solenoid winding, thereby decreasing the critical current in the HTS tapes. This paper introduces several methods to reduce $B_r$ applied to the HTS tapes in the transformer with double pancake windings by changing winding arrangements and the relative permeability of flux diverters. We have conducted a winding design for a single-phase 1MVA 22.9kV/6.6kV HTS transformer. We observed a change of $B_r$ due to a variation of gap-length between the high voltage windings and the low voltage windings, reciprocal arrangement and an increase of the number of the high voltage pancake. We also observed a change of Br on the HTS tapes due to variation of the relative permeability of flux diverters placed between the high voltage winding and the low voltage winding. Finally, we have designed a 1MVA 22.9kV/6.6kV HTS transformer winding using suggested methods and calculated transformer parameters by the 3D finite element method.
Natural ester has a higher biodegradability, flash and fire points, and a greater permittivity compared to conventional mineral oils. However, natural ester also has a higher pour point, viscosity, and water content. These characteristics hamper circulation and the electrical properties of oil-filled transformer. Thus, this paper applied electromagnetic-thermal-flow coupled analysis method to predict temperature distribution inside 154kV single phase power transformer using natural ester. It modeled in the actual appearance for the tank and winding of the power transformer to improve the accuracy of analysis and applied heat flow analysis that considered hydromechanics and heat transfer at the same time. It calculated the power loss, the main cause of temperature rise, from winding and core with electromagnetic analysis then used for the heat source for the heat flow analysis. It then compared the reasonability of result of measurement analysis based on the result acquired from temperature rise test using FBG sensor on the power transformer.
In a research and development team of high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer for power distribution, prior to manufacture a single phase 1MVA 22.9 kV/6.6 kV HTS transformer, a 1MVA transformer for insulation test with windings made of copper tapes with the same size as BSCCO-2223 HTS tape was manufactured. The test transformer was composed of both the copper windings of double pancake type and the shell type core of laminated silicon steel plates. The characteristics tests of the test transformer were performed, such as no load test, load test and short test at 77k using liquid nitrogen. Insulation tests, lightning impulse test, power-frequency voltage test and external insulation test, were accomplished also.
This paper describes a three-winding transformer protective relaying algorithm based on the ratio of increments of flux linkages (RIFL). To minimize the approximation errors, the algorithm uses integration approximation. The RIFL of the two windings is equal to the turns ratio for all operating conditions except for an internal fault. For a single-phase and three-phase transformer containing the wye-connected windings, the increments of flux linkages (IFL) are calculated. For a three-phase transformer containing the delta-connected windings, the difference of IFL between the two phases are calculated to use the line currents, because the winding currents are practically unavailable. Their ratios are compared with the turns ratio. The comparative study between the proposed and differential approximation methods was conducted. The test results show that the algorithm can reduce the errors resulting from the conventional methods.
In this paper, we suggest a new distribution model for a single phase transformer which is different from the existing model which was modeled for only primary parts, but new distribution model is modeled for primary and secondary parts. Using this model, we simulate various faults of the transformer to know how the transfer function vary from the normal one, i.e., the trend of the variation of transfer function. As an another approach, we measure the voltage and current of a three phase transformer while various faults are made at the transformer. From the simulation of the model and experiment, we fine some trends of the variation of transfer function.
This paper measures the hot spot temperatures in a single-phase, 154 kV, 15/20 MVA power transformer filled with natural ester fluid using optical fiber sensors and compares them with those calculated by conventional heat run tests. A total of 14 optical fiber sensors were installed on the high-voltage and low-voltage windings to measure the hot spot temperatures. In addition, three thermocouples were installed in the transformer to measure the temperature distribution during the heat run tests. In the low-voltage winding, the hot spot temperature was $108.4^{\circ}C$, calculated by the conventional heat run test. However, the hot spot temperature measured using the optical fiber sensor was $129.4^{\circ}C$ between turns 2 and 3 on the upper side of the low-voltage winding. Therefore, the hot spot temperature of the low-voltage winding measured using the optical fiber sensor was $21.0^{\circ}C$ higher than that calculated by the conventional heat run test.

This paper presents an experimental study of the surge response characteristics for the primary winding of a pole transformer and ultimately aims at devising countermeasures against the surge in operating transformer. After applying the impulse voltage to the primary of the 30 kVA pole transformer with single bushing, the voltage waveforms were measured at each tap lead and compared with one another. As a result, the voltage peak of the surge propagating in the primary was decreased in magnitude at a constant rate and somewhat delayed compared to the peak of the applied surge as the tap leads were getting closer to the grounding terminal. The voltage measured at the secondary was not delayed in time, different from that at the primary, and it was about 1/6 according to the turn ratio.
Most of ANC(active noise control) researches are focused on adaptive algorithms, computer simulations and implementations of single-channel system in experimental environments. In this paper, a multi-channel ANC system based on DSP's was developed to obtain global attenuations over wide region and applied to the active control of the humming noise generated by a transformer. The developed ANC system including 24 microphones and 12 spearkers was applied to the real transformer noise reduction problem. Results showed that the control system could successfully control the humming noise over the region of interest.
In this paper, 3-D electromagnetic analysis of a single phase 1MVA 22.9kV/6.6kV High Temperature Superconducting(HTS) transformer with double pancake windings by using the OPERA 3D was accomplished. And in order to perform the analysis of leakage impedances of a 1MVA HTS transformer, the energy conservation method was used. The efficiency voltage regulation and % impedance voltage drop of a 1MVA HTS transformer were obtained by the analysis of leakage impedances.
This paper proposes a three-winding transformer protective relaying algorithm based on the ratio of the induced voltages (RIV). The RIV of the two windings is the same as the turn ratio for all operating conditions except an internal fault. For a single phase and a three-phase transformer containing the wye-connected windings, the induced voltages of the windings are estimated. For a three-phase transformer containing the delta-connected windings, the induced voltage differences are estimated using the line currents, because the winding currents are practically unavailable. The algorithm can identify the faulted phase and winding if a fault occurs on one phase of a winding. The test results clearly show that the algorithm successfully discriminates internal winding faults from magnetic inrush. The algorithm not only does not require hysteresis data but also can reduce the operating time of a relay.
