  • The modulation quality of the I/Q modulator in a wireless transmitter usually affects system performance and it mostly depends on both a nonlinearity and a distortion, from the third order intermodulation($IM_3$) signal and the error components such as an input amplitude error and a local phase error, respectively. This paper focused on how much the Single Sideband Ratio(SSR), which indicates the signal distortion, changes according to the variation of the error components. Consequently, since a desired signal, side band signal at the I/Q modulator output are also represented with those power series coefficients and the error components, the effects of the error components on SSR to meet the EVM specification of the WPAN can be clearly analyzed.

Effectiveness of Mental Practice on EMG Activity of the Quadriceps during Sit-to-Stand and Stand-to-Sit Tasks in a Hemiplegic Patient (상상연습이 일어서기와 앉기 과제를 수행하는 동안 편마비 환자의 대퇴사두근 활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • Background : We aimed to determine the effect of a mental practice on the electromyography (EMG) activity of the quadriceps femoris muscle of the affected side in a hemiplegic patient during sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit tasks. Methods : We recruited a male patient who had suffered from right hemiplegia. A single-subject experimental A-B-A design was used. The reliability of visual analysis, which was primarily employed in this study design, was supported by using the "2- standard-deviation band" method. The target motions consisted of two activities: sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit. The EMG measurements of the quadriceps femoris muscles of the affected and unaffected sides were made in 8 sessions in the baseline (A), mental-practice (B), and follow-up (A) phases. During the mental practice phase, the 10-min mental practice was performed, and the mental practice was withdrawn in the follow-up phase in order to identify the carry-over effects of the treatment. Data was calculated as the percentage of the ratio of the quadriceps EMG activity values of the affected side on unaffected side. Result : The percentage EMG-activity ratio showed a greater increase in the mental-practice phase than in the baseline, and it was maintained during the follow-up phase. Most of the data points in the mental-practice and follow-up phases were positioned above the "2-standard-deviation band." Conclusion : These findings suggest that mental practice can be used to improve the physical function of hemiplegic patients.

  • From the present paper researched about the Design of Image Rejection SSB Modulator for X-Band Monopulse RADAR using Waveguide Hybrid Coupler. Generally, SSB modulator mixes IF(RF) and LO signals, and then it converts to RF(IF) frequency band. In this case, in order to transmit one sideband from RF band, SSB modulator is demanded the removal of image and LO signal. The balanced mixer was designed using waveguide hybrid coupler and crystal mixer diode to mix LO and IF signal. And also the IF Amplifier was designed for IF(+) and IF(-) signal generation which have $90^{\circ}$ phase differences which are suitable in two crystal mixer diode inputs. In order to maintain a high electric reliability from high frequency band the waveguide and IF amplifier's case were manufactured with aluminum using deep brazing techniques. The test result of SSB modulator, LO and sideband signal rejection ratio were 14.2dB and 18.5dB respectively.

  • Strain-gauges have been dominantly used to measure strain at various points on a rotor, however, either a slip ring or telemetry has to be used to send sensor signals to data acquisition instruments at stationary side. Both slip ring and telemetry have numerous inherent problems which force severe limitations in real applications. This paper introduces a new rotor condition monitoring system using FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and a rotary optical coupler. A single optical fiber with many FBG sensors is installed on the rotor and an optical dynamic interrogator is installed at stationary side. The sensor signal connection between rotating part and stationary part is made by the rotary optical coupling method which makes use of light's unique characteristic-light travels through space. Broad band light source from the interrogator travels to the optical fiber on the rotor and reflected FBG sensor signals travel back to the optical fiber on stationary side and are connected to the interrogator. Rotary optical coupler's insertion loss change due to rotation is compensated by using a reference sensor installed at the center of the rotor. The proposed system's performance has been successfully demonstrated by accurately measuring strains at 5 points on a blade rotating at high speed.

The communication system must be small size, low cost and adapted SSB transceiver, that is using fishery shipping. In this paper We present digital data communication network to exchange information for fishery and safety between fishing ship and coast station in cheeper communication fee using SSB in HF band.

Structural and Optical Properties of Sol-gel Derived MgxZn1-x Thin Films

  • In this report, the structural and optical properties of sol-gel derived $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films upon changes in the composition and annealing temperature were investigated. The $Mg^{2+}$ content and the annealing temperature were varied in the range of $0{\leq}x{\leq}0.35$ and $400^{\circ}C{\leq}T{\leq}600^{\circ}C$, respectively. The films exhibited a hexagonal wurtzite structure of a polycrystalline nature. The optical transmittance exceeded 85% and the optical band gap of the film was tuned as high as 3.84 eV at a value of x = 0.35 (annealed at $400^{\circ}C$), which was evidently the maximum $Mg^{2+}$ content for the single-phase polycrystalline $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ thin films prepared in this experiment. The optical band gap and photoluminescence emission were tailored to the higher energy side while maintaining crystallinity without a significant change of the lattice constant.

InGaAs-based Tunneling Field-effect Transistor with Stacked Dual-metal Gate with PNPN Structure for High Performance

  • We have proposed an InGaAs-based gate-all-around (GAA) tunneling field-effect transistor (TFET) with a stacked dual-metal gate (DMG). The electrical performances of the proposed TFET are evaluated through technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed TFET demonstrates improved DC performances including high on-state current ($I_{on}$) and steep subthreshold swing (S), in comparison with a single-metal gate (SMG) TFET with higher gate metal workfunction, as it has a thinner source-channel tunneling barrier width by low workfunction of source-side channel gate. The effects of the gate workfunction on $I_{on}$, the off-state current ($I_{off}$), and S in the DMG-TFETs are examined. The DMG-TFETs with PNPN structure demonstrate outstanding DC performances and RF characteristics with a higher n-type doping concentration in the $In_{0.8}Ga_{0.2}As$ source-side channel region.

  • In this study, we designed a single antenna taking into account the performance, such as return loss and radiation pattern, of 28 GHz and 38 GHz array antennas for 5G mobile devices. In millimeter wave band communication, high path loss occurs between transmission and reception, unlike in conventional microwave bands. In the design of array antennas for 5G millimeter wave terminals, antenna performance such as antenna gain, bandwidth, isolation between antenna elements, side-lobe level(SLL), etc. should be further considered. The performance of the designed array antennas was analyzed by spacing the antenna elements at half a wavelength. Our results proved the validity of the design and its suitability for applications in mm-Wave by showing that the 28 GHz and 39 GHz array antennas had antenna gains of 13.5 dBi and 11.3 dBi and return losses below -18.4 dB and -20 dB, correspondingly.

X, K-Band Patch Array Antenna Having One Port Feeding for Radar Detector (단일 급전부를 갖는 레이다 디텍터용 X, K 밴드 배열 안테나)

  • In this paper, the X($1{\times}2$, 10.525 GHz) and K($3{\times}6$, 24.15 GHz) bands patch array antenna having single feed line for radar detector applications is proposed. The left side of the proposed array antenna is X band array antenna and the right is K band array antenna. Two array antennas with two stubs located in the front of antennas are fed through one transmission line. If the array antennas which have the different resonance frequency are fed by one transmission line using general T-junction, it interferes each other and the array antenna lost its character. Therefore, to prevent these interferences, two stubs using open and short property of stub are designed. First of all, the performances of array antenna weren't changed when each array antennas were connected with the stub and in the end, it is found out that it was the same when the two array antennas were combined and feed through the one transmission line. The measured gain at X band is 6.47 dBi and measured gain at K band is 13.07 dBi. The experimental results agree well with the simulated ones.
