Characteristic Study on Single to Three Phase Conversion Using Single Phase Inverter (단상 Inverter를 사용한 단상/3상 상변환기구와 그 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with the phase converter. The single-phase inverter with 120.deg.C phase-lagging is used for the phase conversion. As the waveform of the inverter is rectangular, the output waveforms of the three-phase lines include the harmonics. Single-phase operation by using phase converter and three-phase balanced operation of the three-phase induction motor are compared, and the effects of the harmonics are analyzed and discussed.

  • In this paper, single phase induction motor achieved improvement in efficiency by adapting the condition of Balanced operation and Quasi-balanced operation. Also, the process of efficiency improvement to find the optimum point of secondary resistance and running capacitor for working single phase induction motor is performed in order to attain the conclusion to put out the maximum efficiency at the rated operation point with meeting the starting torque.

  • This paper analyzes the losses of a Steinmetz connection three-phase induction motor which is supplied by a single-phase source. The T-type equivalent circuit which is taken no-load losses into account is used to determine phase converter capacitive reactances at starting and rated speed by using the condition of the minimum voltage unbalance. The starting and the operating capacitor are replaced at the slip of the same voltage unbalance factor points which are depicted using two capacitive reactances. The operation characteristics are investigated by comparing with those of three-phase balanced operation to find the feasibility of single-phase operation. To analyze the losses of this motor, the output power decrease factor(OPDF), the loss ratio(LR), the no load loss ratio(NLLR), the copper loss ratio(CLR), the stator copper loss ratio(SCLR), and the rotor copper loss ratio(RCLR) are defined and simulated in the whole slip range. The simulated results show that OPDF is maintained almost uniformly, LR is low at low speed and high at high speed, CLR is higher !ban NLLR, but CLR varies concavely and NLLR varies convexly at high speed, SCLR is low at low speed and high at high speed, but SCLR varies convexly at high speed, and RCLR is nearly opposite to SCLR.

A Study on Current and Torque Characteristics Of Three-Phase Induction Motor in Single-Phase Operation. (삼상유도전동기의 결상시 전류 및 회전력특성에 관한 연구)

  • The characteristics of the stator current and torque of a small three- phase squirrel cage induction motor and studied experimentally under the situation of a single-phase operation due to various causes. Through the experiments, the torque-slip and current-slip curve of single-phase circuit as well as three-phase circuit are obtained and the needed constants are determined. The stator current and torque are calculated by the current and torque equations derived by the unbalanced circuit theory. The numerical values obtained from the above methods are compared with the experimental values under the same conditions. The results of the study are summerized as follow; 1) The values computed by the unbalanced circuit theory generally come to approach the values recorded through experiments. 2) Near the rated load, speed drop is less than 1.2 per cent of the speed of three-phase induction motor and torque reduces less than 3 per cent of it of three-phase induction motor when three-phase induction motor is run under a single-phase. On the other hand, the stator current in a single-phase circuit is more than 1.9 times of it in three-phase circuit. 3) The stalling torque in a single-phase circuit is reduced to about 41 per cent of it in three-phase circuit while the corresponding slip is moved toward the synchroneous speed and the corresponding stator current is increased.

  • This paper describes the operation characteristic of a single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy for single-phase double-conversion UPS. A single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy needs a diode bridge and one bidirectional active switch. Thus it is possible to reduce the material cost. However, the study results of operation characteristic and controller design has not been known after the converter circuit was proposed. For the performance evaluation of PFC converter, single-phase 3kVA double-conversion UPS was tested. The performance of PFC converter is experimentally confirmed with followings - input current reference traking, input power factor correction.

Single-Phase Z-Source AC/AC Converter with Wide Range Output Voltage Operation

  • A new type of single-phase Z-source AC/AC converter based on a single-phase matrix converter is proposed in this paper. The proposed single-phase Z-source AC/AC converter has unique features; namely that the output voltage can be bucked and in-phase/out-of-phase with the input voltage; that the output voltage can be boosted and in-phase/out-of-phase with the input voltage. The converter employs a safe-commutation strategy to conduct along a continuous current path, which results in the elimination of voltage spikes on switches without the need for a snubber circuit. The operating principles of the proposed single-phase Z-source AC/AC converter are described, and a circuit analysis is provided. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, a laboratory prototype based on a TMS320F2812 DSP was constructed. The simulation and the experimental results verified that the output voltage can be bucked-boosted and in-phase with the input voltage, and that the output voltage can be bucked-boosted and out-of-phase with the input voltage.

  • This paper proposes a new double-connected 3-phase voltage source inverter with improved output voltage waveform. An auxiliary single-phase inverter injects a ripple voltage into the double- connected inverter to convert 12-step operation to 36-step operation. The KVA rating of the output phase-shifting transformer is reduced by employing a harmonic canceling reactor. The whole rectifier-inverter system including the proposed technique is introduced and the experimental results are provided.

  • This paper deals with operation characteristics of a written-pole motor (WPM), having that of a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor and induction motor at once. The WPM also has a magnet layer on the surface of the rotor and the exciter pole that is a device to make the magnet layer magnetized during the operation. This study, introducing a fundamental structure and operation characteristics of a single-phase WPM, proposes a initial design method. With those ground, a 130W, single-phase WPM that is designed for a home appliance is presented and verified with a performance through the experiment.

  • In the three-phase four-wire low-voltage power distribution equipment, single-phase and three-phase load have been used mainly mixed. Also linear and nonlinear loads have been used together in the same conditions. In a three-phase four-wire distribution line, the current distribution of three-phase linear load is almost constant in each phase during driving or stopping, but the single-phase load is different from each other for each phase in accordance with the operation and stop. So that the voltage unbalance is caused by the current difference of each phase. In the three-phase four-wire distribution system, non-linear load is used with linear load. The presence of single-phase nonlinear loads can produce an increase in harmonic currents in three-phase and neutral line. It can also cause voltage unbalance. In the present study, we analyzed for the voltage unbalance fluctuations by the operation pattern of the single and three-phase linear and non-linear load in three-phase four-wire low voltage distribution system.

Single-Phase Z-Source AC-AC Converter (SZAC) with Buck/Boost In-Phase and Out-Of-Phase Operation

  • A new family of single-phase Z-source ac-ac converter(SZAC) based on single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) is proposed in this paper. Compared to conventional Z-source ac-ac converter, the proposed SZAC has unique feature: providing a wide range of output ac voltage with buck/boost in-phase (maintaining phase angle) and buck/boost out-of-phase (reversing phase angle) operation. A new commutation strategy is used to eliminate voltage spikes on switches. The operating principle of the proposed SZAC is presented. Analysis and experimental results are also presented.
