  • The main applications of CFRP are sports, aerospace and general industrial uses including automobiles. As this application fields expands the opportunity of machining, but CFRP is difficult to cut because of delamination of the composites and the short tool life. In this paper, the machinability of multidirectional CFRP by means of ultrasonic vibration cutting, which has been verified experimentally investigated.The experimentally to be highly effective in view of cutting force and surface quality.

고투과율 광학유리(SF57HHT) 초정밀절삭의 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Ultra-precision Turning of High Transmittance Optical Glass(SF57HHT))

  • Heavy flint optical glass(SF57HHT) is new material that has extremely high transmittance. Due to brittleness and high hardness, optical glass is one of the most difficult to materials for ultra-precision turning. According to the hypothesis of ductile machining, all materials, regardless of their hardness and brittleness, will undergo transition from brittle to ductile machining region below critical undefromed chip thickness. In this study, cutting test was carried out to evaluate cutting performance of heavy flint glass using ultra-precision machine with single crystal diamond bite. The machined workpiece surface topography, tool wear and surface roughness were examined using AFM and SEM. The experimental results indicate that the machining mode become the brittle mode to ductile mode, when the maximum undeformed chip thinkness is large than critical value. Tool wear mainly occurs on the flank face and its wear mechanism is dominated by abrasion. This study demonstrates the feasibility of SF57HHT by diamond turning.

세이핑에 의한 렌티큘러 렌즈 금형 가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on Lenticular Lens Mold Fabrication by Shaping)

  • Recently, micro machining technology for high precision mold becomes more interested for mass production of high performance optical parts micro-grooved on the surface, which is under very active development due to its effectiveness in the view point of optical performance. Mechanical micro machining technology now has more competitiveness on lithography, MEMS or LIGA processes which have some problems to fabricate especially cylinder type of groove in such as lenticular lens for illumination angle modulation system. In this study. a lenticular lens mold with U-type micro groove is fabricated making utilizing of the benefit of the mechanical micro machining technology. A shaping machining process is adapted using 3 axis degree of freedom micro machining system and single crystal natural diamond tool. A brass and a electroless nickel materials are used for mold fabrication. Machining force, chip shape and machined surface are investigated from the experiment and an optimal machining condition is found based on the examined problems from the micro cutting process.

  • High-accuracy micropatterns such as V-shaped microgrooves are increasingly in demand for various engineering areas. And the technical trend goes for large surface areas in precision machining technology. So micropatterns with large surface areas are expected to play an increasingly important role in today's manufacturing technology In this study, we focused on developing machining technologies. First, a machine vision system for precise tool setting is developed. Second, an on-machine measurement (OMM) system for large-area measurement is implemented. And also software for tool path generation and simulation is developed. With these technologies we fabricated large-surface micropatterns in an electroless nickel-plated workpiece with single-crystal diamond tools and a 32-in, $675mm{\times}450mm$ mold with tens of V-and pyramid-shaped micropatterns.

압전소자의 미세회전운동을 이용한 초정밀 초음파 표면가공기 개발 (Development of Ultra-precision Ultrasonic Surface Machining Device Using Cyclic Elliptical Cutting Motion of a Couple of Piezoelectric Material)

  • Various types of elliptical motions are generated by PZT mechanism which is composed of two parallel piezoelectric actuators. Elliptical vibration cutting(EVC) is obtained by attaching single crystal diamond cutting tool to the mechanism, and V-grooving for Brass and Aluminum is carried out by applying the EVC. It is experimentally observed that the cutting force in the process of the EVC reduces compared to the ordinary non-vibration cutting, which is due to the decrease of undeformed chip thickness and frictional force between the tool and chip. Ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting(UEVC) suppresses burr formation and decreases cutting force still more, so UEVC makes it possible to enhance the shape accuracy of machined surface.

  • The ultra-precision products which recently experienced high in demands had included the large areas of most updated technologies, for example, the semiconductor, the computer, the aerospace, the media information, the precision machining. For early 21st century, it was expected that the ultra-precision technologies would be distributed more throughout the market and required securing more nation-wise advancements. Furthermore, there seemed to be increasing in demand of the single crystal diamond tool which was capable of the ultra-precision machining for parts requiring a high degree of complicated details which were more than just simple wrapping and policing. Moreover, the highest degree of precision is currently at 50 nm for some precision parts but not in all. The machining system and technology should be at very high performed level in order to accomplish this degree of the ultra-precision.

AFM기반 기계적 TNL 패터닝을 통한 PDMS 몰드제작 (Fabrication of PDMS Mold by AFM Based Mechanical TNL Patterning)

  • This study demonstrates the process of fabricating patterns using tribonanolithography (TNL),with laboratory-made micro polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tools that are attached to an atomic force microscope (AFM). The various patterns are easily fabricated using mechanical scratching, under various normal loads, using the PCD tool on single crystal silicon, which is the master mold for replication in this study. Then, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) replica molds are fabricated using precise pattern transfer processes. The transferred patterns show high dimensional accuracy as compared with those of TNL-processed silicon micro molds. TNL can reduce the need for high cost and complicated apparatuses required for conventional lithography methods. TNL shows great potential in that it allows for the rapid fabrication of duplicated patterns through simple mechanical micromachining on brittle sample surfaces.

초정밀 가공기 제작을 통한 미세가공에 관한 연구 (A Study of Micro Machining Using Ultra Precision Machine)

  • In recent years, a demand for micro-structure machining is increasing by the development of information and optics industries. Micro machining technology is in general well known in the field of lithograghy. However, the requirement of producing micro machine and/or micro mechanism with metal materials will be increased since a variety of workpiece configurations can be easily made. In this paper, ultra precision machine is developed to obtain micro groove and mirror surface using single crystal diamond tool. According to the cutting experiment, no burr was found at the edge of V-grooves, and the surface roughness of copper is about 1~3nm Ra. It is verified that ultra precision machine is effective to high precision machining.
