Andreev reflection in the c-axis transport of $Bi_2$$Sr_2$Ca$Cu_2$$O_{8+x}$ single crystals near $T_c$

  • An enhancement of the c-axis differential conductance around the zero-bias voltage near the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ has been observed in $Au/Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{8+x}$ junctions. We attribute such an enhancement to the Andreev reflection (AR) between the surface Cu-O bilayer with suppressed superconductivity and the next superconducting Cu-O bilayer. The continuous evolution of the differential conductance, from gap like depression to an AR-like peak structure, around the zero-bias voltage points to weakening of the barrier strength of the nonsuperconducting layer between adjacent Cu-O bilayers as temperature approaches $T_{c}$ from below. The peak structure disappeared just below the bulk $T_{c}$ value of underdoped Bi2212 single crystals, whereas it survived up to ~1 K above $T_{c}$ in Junctions prepared on slightly overdosed crystals. According to a recently proposed theoretical consideration, a wider temperature range of the AR a bone $T_{c}$ is expected in the underdoped regime when phase-incoherent preformed pairs emerge in the pseudogap state.   • High performance p-ch poly-Si TFTs with excellent stability were developed. By using a frequency doubled DPSS CW laser, the a-Si on glass could be crystallized into one dimensional single crystalline silicon named as a sequential lateral crystallization (SLC) region. We fabricated p-ch TFTs on SLC region and the typical characteristic values of the TFTs were $u_{fe}$ = 180 $cm^2$/Vs, $V_{th}$ = -3 V, S.S. = 0.5 V/dec, and $I_{off}$ = 1 pA/um@ $V_d$ = -10V. It is found that the TFTs are very stable after bias stresses such as negative and positive gate biases, hot carrier bias and high current bias. These results indicate that the poly-Si in SLC region is suitable for system on glass (SOG) application.

Sliding Mode Attitude Control for Momentum-Biased Spacecraft

  • In this paper, we present a sliding mode control strategy for the re-orientation maneuver of rigid spacecraft containing rotating wheels. The wheels are considered as internal devices, and external inputs are employed for generation of control commands. The formulation is developed for a general case while particular example is applied to pitch bias momentum spacecraft with a single momentum wheel. The resultant control commands are used to take the gyroscopic effects into account which are caused by the rotating wheels. The controller designed demonstrates that the nutational motion of the pitch bias momentum spacecraft is effectively controlled. It is also assumed that the external control torque device is of on-off nature, and pulse width modulation technique is applied to construct proper control torque history.

Temperature Stable Current Source Using Simple Self-Bias Circuit

  • In this paper, temperature stable current and voltage references using simple CMOS bias circuit are proposed. To obtain temperature stable characteristics of bias circuit a bandgap reference concept is used in a conventional circuit. The parasitic bipolar transistors or MOS transistors having different threshold voltage are required in a bandgap reference. Thereby the chip area increase or the extra CMOS process is required compared to a standard CMOS process. The proposed reference circuit can be integrated on a single chip by a standard CMOS process without the extra CMOS process. From the simulation results, the reference current variation is less than ${\pm}$0.44% over a temperature range from - $20^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. And the voltage variation is from - 0.02% to 0.1%.

Exchange Bias in Cr2O3/Fe3O4 Core/Shell Nanoparticles

  • We report the exchange bias in antiferromagnet/ferrimagnet $Cr_2O_3/Fe_3O_4$ core/shell nanoparticles. The magnetic field hysteresis curve for $Cr_2O_3/Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles after field-cooling (FC) clearly showed both horizontal ($H_{EB}{\sim}$610 Oe) and vertical (${\Delta}M{\sim}$5.6 emu/g) shifts at 5 K. These shifts disappeared as the temperature increased toward the Neel temperature of $Cr_2O_3\;(T_N{\sim}$307 K). The $H_{EB}\;and\;{\Delta}M$ values were sharply decreased between the $1^{st}\;and\;the\;2^{nd}$ magnetic field cycles, and then slowly decreased with further cycling. These results are discussed in terms of the formation of single domains with pinned, uncompensated, antiferromagnetic spin and their evolution into multi-domains with cycling.

  • DC current density-voltage and impedance spectroscopy studies have been performed on indium-tin-oxide(ITO)/para-sexiphenyl(6p)/aluminium organic electroluminescent device. The device exhibited a blue color emission, The turn-on voltage of the device is observed at 5V from the current density-voltage measurements. The impedance spectroscopy measurements show that a resonance frequency shift with applied DC bias is observed and a single semi-circle Cole-Cole plot is confirmed. The bias-dependent bulk resistance and bias-independent bulk capacitance is observed.

  • Confluence buffers and single flux quantum (SFQ) switches are essential components in constructing a high speed superconductive Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). In this work, we developed a SFQ confluence buffer and an SFQ switch. It is very important to optimize the circuit parameters of a confluence buffer and an SFQ switch to implement them into an ALU. The confluence buffer that we are currently using has a small bias margin of $\pm$11%. By optimizing it with a Josephson circuit simulator, we improved the design of confluence buffer. Our simulation study showed that we improved bias global margin of 10% more than the existent confluence buffer. In simulations, the minimal bias margin was $\pm$33%. We also designed, fabricated, and tested an SFQ switch operating in a DC mode. The mask layout used to fabricate the SFQ switch was obtained after circuit optimization. The test results of our SFQ switch showed that it operated correctly and had a reasonably wide margin of $\pm$15%.

  • Precise Point Positioning-Real Time Kinematic (PPP-RTK) is an improved PPP method that provides the user receiver with satellite code and phase bias correction information in addition to the satellite orbit and clock, thus enabling single-receiver ambiguity resolution. Single station PPP-RTK concept is special case of PPP-RTK in that corrections are computed, instead of a network, by only one single GNSS receiver. This study is performed to experimentally verify the positioning accuracy performance of single baseline RTK level by a user who utilizes correction for a single station PPP-RTK using dual frequencies. As an experimental result, the horizontal and vertical 95% accuracy was 2.2 cm, 4.4 cm, respectively, which verify the same performance as the single baseline RTK.

Factors influencing health-related quality of life for young single-person households: the mediating effect of resilience (청년 1인 가구의 건강 관련 삶의 질 영향요인: 회복탄력성의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: To identify factors influencing health-related quality of life for young single-person households, this study investigated physical and mental health status, health behavior, depression, resilience, and health-related quality of life. Methods: An online survey was administered to members of young single-person households from March 22 to 30, 2022. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, multiple regression, and a simple mediation model applying the PROCESS macro model 4 with 95% bias-corrected bootstrapped confidence intervals. Results: The participants were 229 members of young single-person households. Health-related quality of life showed significant relationships with residence (t = 2.80, p = .006), month (F = 3.70, p = .026), mental health status (F = 20.33, p < . 001), and high-intensity exercise (F = 7.35, p = .001) among general and health-related characteristics. Health-related quality of life had significant correlations with depression (r = -.72, p < .001) and resilience (r = .58, p < .001). Multiple regression analysis showed that depression (β = -.57, p < .001) and resilience (β = .21, p < .001) influenced health-related quality of life. Moreover, resilience had a mediating effect between depression and health-related quality of life (indirect effect = -0.002, 95% bias-corrected bootstrapped confidence interval = -0.003 to -0.001). Conclusion: Members of young single-person households tended to be more vulnerable to emergency situations, such as during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, when lockdowns and quarantines were frequent. To improve health-related quality of life in young single-person households, people with high levels of depression or low levels of resilience need special attention and support to promote mental health.

Constraining the uncertainties in single-epoch virial black hole masses

  • Utilizing single-epoch spectra and the empirical relation between the size of the broad-line region and AGN continuum luminosity, the so-called single-epoch method has been widely used for estimating AGN black hole masses. However, the systematic uncertainties and the potential biases of this method are not well examined. Taking the full advantage of the high-quality homogeneous spectra from the Lick AGN Monitoring Project (LAMP), we investigate in detail the uncertainties of single-epoch mass estimates by comparing with the reverberation-mapping results. We find that the uncertainty due to AGN variability is less than 0.1 dex, while there is a systematic offset between single-epoch masses and reverberation masses. Particularly, narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies show that the Hbeta line widths measured from single-epoch (or mean) spectra are systematically larger than those from rms spectra, indicating a potential bias of single-epoch masses. We will present the detailed measurement method, the test of virial assumption, and the systematic uncertainties.
