비선형 정상파의 Fourier급수 해석 (Fourier Approximation of Nonlinear Standing Waves)

  • 이차원 비선형 정상파의 파낭포텐셜과 수면 파형곡선을 임의 계수를 갖는 Fourier 급수로 대치하고 그 계수를 지배방정식 및 경계조건으로부터 비롯되는 비선형 연립방정식의 Newton 해법에 의하여 결정하는 방법을 제시하였다. 해석결과의 유효성을 검증하기 위하여 본 교치분석을 재내의 4차 미소치 섭동기법과 비교하였으며, 또한 파형과 파염을 관측하기 위한 수리실험을 실시하여 그 결과를 수치해석결과와 비교ㆍ검토하였다. 검토 결과, 본 해석 기법은 수심조건에 관계없이 비교적 큰 파형 경사에서도 정확한 해를 주는 것으로 나타났으며 또한 비선형성이 강한 정상파에서 파염곡선의 파봉부분에 일반적으로 나타나는 이중 돌출부를 잘 예측함으로써 그 타당성을 입증하였다.

Harmonic differential quadrature (HDQ) for axisymmetric bending analysis of thin isotropic circular plates

  • Numerical solution to linear bending analysis of circular plates is obtained by the method of harmonic differential quadrature (HDQ). In the method of differential quadrature (DQ), partial space derivatives of a function appearing in a differential equation are approximated by means of a polynomial expressed as the weighted linear sum of the function values at a preselected grid of discrete points. The method of HDQ that was used in the paper proposes a very simple algebraic formula to determine the weighting coefficients required by differential quadrature approximation without restricting the choice of mesh grids. Applying this concept to the governing differential equation of circular plate gives a set of linear simultaneous equations. Bending moments, stresses values in radial and tangential directions and vertical deflections are found for two different types of load. In the present study, the axisymmetric bending behavior is considered. Both the clamped and the simply supported edges are considered as boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with existing solutions available from analytical and other numerical results such as finite elements and finite differences methods. A comparison between the HDQ results and the finite difference solutions for one example plate problem is also made. The method presented gives accurate results and is computationally efficient.

Image Restoration and Object Removal Using Prioritized Adaptive Patch-Based Inpainting in a Wavelet Domain

  • Image restoration has been carried out by texture synthesis mostly for large regions and inpainting algorithms for small cracks in images. In this paper, we propose a new approach that allows for the simultaneous fill-in of different structures and textures by processing in a wavelet domain. A combination of structure inpainting and patch-based texture synthesis is carried out, which is known as patch-based inpainting, for filling and updating the target region. The wavelet transform is used for its very good multiresolution capabilities. The proposed algorithm uses the wavelet domain subbands to resolve the structure and texture components in smooth approximation and high frequency structural details. The subbands are processed separately by the prioritized patch-based inpainting with isophote energy driven texture synthesis at the core. The algorithm automatically estimates the wavelet coefficients of the target regions of various subbands using optimized patches from the surrounding DWT coefficients. The suggested performance improvement drastically improves execution speed over the existing algorithm. The proposed patch optimization strategy improves the quality of the fill. The fill-in is done with higher priority to structures and isophotes arriving at target boundaries. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated with natural and textured images with varying textural complexions.

Performing a multi-unit level-3 PSA with MACCS

  • MACCS (MELCOR Accident Consequence Code System), WinMACCS, and MelMACCS now facilitate a multi-unit consequence analysis. MACCS evaluates the consequences of an atmospheric release of radioactive gases and aerosols into the atmosphere and is most commonly used to perform probabilistic safety assessments (PSAs) and related consequence analyses for nuclear power plants (NPPs). WinMACCS is a user-friendly preprocessor for MACCS. MelMACCS extracts source-term information from a MELCOR plot file. The current development can combine an arbitrary number of source terms, representing simultaneous releases from a multi-unit facility, into a single consequence analysis. The development supports different release signatures, fission product inventories, and accident initiation times for each unit. The treatment is completely general except that the model is currently limited to collocated units. A major practical consideration for performing a multi-unit PSA is that a comprehensive treatment for more than two units may involve an intractable number of combinations of source terms. This paper proposes and evaluates an approach for reducing the number of calculations to be tractable, even for sites with eight or ten units. The approximation error introduced by the approach is acceptable and is considerably less than other errors and uncertainties inherent in a Level 3 PSA.

루프-루프 전자탐사자료의 효과적인 2.5차원 역산 (An efficient 2.5D inversion of loop-loop electromagnetic data)

  • 2.5차원 전자탐사 적분방정식의 확장된 Born 근사해 또는 국소 비선형 근사에 기초하여 루프-루프 전자탐사 역산 알고리듬이 개발되었다 송수신 배열은 수평 동일면(HCP) 또는 수직 동일면(VCP) 방식이고, 다중 주파수 및 다중 송수신 간격을 포함할 수 있으며 PC에서 작동된다. 안정적이고 고해상도를 유지하는 역산이 가능하도록 변수분해 행렬과 Backus-Gilbert 분산 함수 분석을 통해 감도 분포의 함수로서의 공간적으로 변화하는 최적 Lagrange 곱수 결정 알고리듬을 포함하였다. HCP와 VCP 배열 자료가 지하 전기비저항 구조에 따라 서로 다른 감도를 가짐에 따라 동시 역산에서 안정성과 해상도에 영향을 미치게 되므로, 계산값과 측정값 차의 분산에 따라 가중치를 적용하는 방식을 도입하였다. 모델링 코드의 정확성은 통상적으로 루프-루프 전자탐사에서 사용하는 주파수 및 송수신 간격 범위에서 유한차분법에 의해 계산된 결과와의 비교를 통하여 증명되었다. 개발된 역산 알고리듬은 먼저 반무한 공간내 전도체 및 저항체가 포함된 모델에 대한 계산자료에 적용되어 성능이 입증되었다. 현장자료에 적용하고 그 결과 영상을 전기비저항 탐사자료에 대한 역산 결과와 비교하여, 의미있는 지하구조의 영상을 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

일반화된 Hoek-Brown 파괴기준식을 만족하는 최소주응력의 해석적 근사식 (Approximate Analytical Formula for Minimum Principal Stress Satisfying the Generalized Hoek-Brown Failure Criterion)

  • 일반화된 Hoek-Brown(GHB) 파괴기준식은 GSI 값을 이용하여 현장 암반조건이 반영된 강도정수 값을 효과적으로 결정할 수 있기 때문에 암반공학 분야에서 표준 파괴기준식의 하나로 인식되고 있다. 그러나 GHB 파괴기준식의 비선형적 형태는 이 식의 수학적 취급을 어렵게 하고 이 식의 적용 범위를 제약하는 요인이 되고 있다. GHB 파괴기준식의 이러한 단점을 극복하기 위한 노력의 하나로 Taylor 다항함수 근사원리를 적용하여 파괴 최대주응력에 대응하는 최소주응력을 근사적으로 계산할 수 있는 명시적, 해석적 수식을 유도하였다. 근사식으로 구한 최소주응력과 수치해석적으로 계산한 정해를 비교하여 이 연구에서 유도한 최소주응력 근사식의 정확성을 검증하였다. 연구결과의 응용사례를 제시하기 위해 근사 최소주응력 계산식을 활용하여 GHB 암반에 굴착된 원형터널 주변에 예상되는 소성영역의 등가 마찰각과 등가 점착력을 계산하였다. 소성영역의 등가 Mohr-Coulomb 강도정수를 정밀하기 산정하기 위해서는 mi, GSI, 초기지압의 크기를 동시에 고려하는 것이 중요한 것으로 나타났다.

Multicriteria shape design of a sheet contour in stamping

  • One of the hottest challenges in automotive industry is related to weight reduction in sheet metal forming processes, in order to produce a high quality metal part with minimal material cost. Stamping is the most widely used sheet metal forming process; but its implementation comes with several fabrication flaws such as springback and failure. A global and simple approach to circumvent these unwanted process drawbacks consists in optimizing the initial blank shape with innovative methods. The aim of this paper is to introduce an efficient methodology to deal with complex, computationally expensive multicriteria optimization problems. Our approach is based on the combination of methods to capture the Pareto Front, approximate criteria (to save computational costs) and global optimizers. To illustrate the efficiency, we consider the stamping of an industrial workpiece as test-case. Our approach is applied to the springback and failure criteria. To optimize these two criteria, a global optimization algorithm was chosen. It is the Simulated Annealing algorithm hybridized with the Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation in order to gain in time and in precision. The multicriteria problems amounts to the capture of the Pareto Front associated to the two criteria. Normal Boundary Intersection and Normalized Normal Constraint Method are considered for generating a set of Pareto-optimal solutions with the characteristic of uniform distribution of front points. The computational results are compared to those obtained with the well-known Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II. The results show that our proposed approach is efficient to deal with the multicriteria shape optimization of highly non-linear mechanical systems.

Characteristics of the Polar Ionosphere Based on the Chatanika and Sondrestrom Incoherent Scatter Radars

  • The climatological characteristics of the polar ionospheric currents obtained from the simultaneous observations of the ionospheric electric field and conductivity are examined. For this purpose, 43 and 109 days of measurements from the Chatanika and Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radars are utilized respectively. The ionospheric current density is compared with the corresponding ground magnetic disturbance. Several interesting characteristics about the polar ionosphere are apparent from this study: (1) The sun determines largely the conductance over the Sondrestrom radar, while the nighttime conductance distribution over the Chatanika radar is significantly affected by auroral precipitation. (2) The regions of the maximum N-S electric field over the Chatanika radar are located approximately at the dawn and dusk sectors, while they tend to shift towards dayside over the Sondrestrom radar. The N-S component over Son-drestrom is slightly stronger than Chatanika. However, the E-W component over Chatanika is negligible compared to that of Sondrestrom. (3) The E-W ionospheric current flows dominantly in the night hemisphere over Chatanika, while it flows in the sunlit hemisphere over Sondrestrom. The N-S current over Chatanika flows prominently in the dawn and dusk sectors, while a strong southward current flows in the prenoon sector over Sondrestrom. (4) The assumption of infinite sheet current approximation is far from realistic, underestimating the current density by a factor of 2 or more. It is particularly serious for the higher latitude region. (5) The correlation between ${\Delta}H\;and\;J_E$ is higher than the one between ${\Delta}D\;and\;J_N$, indicating that field-aligned current affects ${\Delta}D$significantly.

  • In this study, we modeled moving-actuator type Total Artificial Heart (TAH) with cardiovascular system as a form of electric circuit. The bronchial circulation, important for the imbalance between the left cardiac output and the right one, was considered and added to the model. In the model, the relations of hemodynamic variables, just as blood pressures, volumes, or flow rates of each part of body, can be expressed as simultaneous first order ordinary differential equations. To solve the equations by the numerical analysis, Runge-Kutta forth order approximation method was adopted. The simulation software (SimTAH), implemented in C++ as a window-based application program, was developed to display the hemodynamic variables and to receive control inputs from users. SimTAH was evaluated by comparison of the simulation results with the results of mock-circulation tests, in vitro.

패널법에 의한 물 분사 추진장치의 성능해석 (Prediction of Performance of Waterjet Propulsors by Surface Panel Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 물분사추진기의 성능해석을 위하여 포텐셜을 기저로 한 패널법을 정립하였다. 문제를 수치적으로 표현하기 위하여 임펠러와 고정날개의 날개표면, 그리고 허브와 덕트표변에 법선 다이폴과 쏘오스를 분포하였으며 임펠러와 고정날개에서 방출되는 후연반류면에는 법선다이폴을 분포하였다. 경계면 닫힘조건을 만족하기 위하여 덕트의 입구면과 출구면에는 다이폴과 쏘오스를 분포하였으며, 운동학적 경계조건을 만족하기 위하여 경계면에서의 법선방향의 속도가 영이라는 비침투 조건을 사용하였다. 입구면에서의 전유량이 주어지면 연속방정식을 만족하도록 출구면에서의 쏘오스의 세기가 결정된다. 물체표면을 사각형외 패널로 이산화 하였으며, 적분방정식에 경계조건을 적용함으로써 주어진 형상에 대하여 유일한 해를 구할 수 있다. 체계적인 수치시험을 통하여 본 연구에서 개발한 수치해석방법이 안정적임을 확인하였고 프로그램의 검증을 위하여 물분사 추진기와 유사한 축류송풍기의 형상에 대하여 수치검증을 하였다. 또한, 실제적인 적용을 위하여 선박해양공학센터(KRISO)에서 실험한 물분사추진장치의 실험결과와 비교, 도시 하였다.
