Advanced Tools for Modeling, Design and Optimization of Wind Turbine Systems

  • As wind turbine technology and control has advanced over the last decade, this has led to a high penetration of wind turbines into the power system. Whether it be for a large wind turbine or an offshore wind farm with hundreds of MW power capacity, the electrical system has become more and more important in controlling the interaction between the mechanical system of the wind turbine and the main power system. The presence of power electronics in wind turbines improves their controllability with respect not only to its mechanical loads but also to its power quality. This paper presents an overview of a developed simulation platform for the modeling, design and optimization of wind turbines. The ability to simulate the dynamic behavior of wind turbines and the wind turbine grid interaction using four simulation tools (Matlab, Saber, DIgSILENT and HAWC) is investigated, improved and extended.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OF VEHICLE DRIFT USING STATISTICAL SIX SIGMA TOOLS

  • Vehicle drift was reduced using statistical six sigma tools. The study was performed through four steps: M (measure), A (analyze), I (improve), and C (control). Step M measured the main factors which were derived from a fishbone diagram. The measurement system capabilities were analyzed and improved before measurement. Step A analyzed critical problems by examining the process capability and control chart derived from the measured values. Step I analyzed the influence of the main factors on vehicle drift using DOE (design of experiment) to derive the CTQ (critical to quality). The tire conicity and toe angle difference proved to be CTQ. This information enabled the manufacturing process related with the CTQ to be improved. The respective toe angle tolerance for the adjustment process was obtained using the Monte Carlo simulation. Step C verified and controlled the improved results through hypothesis testing and Monte Carlo simulation.

Simulator for Port Container Terminal Using An Object-Oriented Approach

  • Since world container throughput continues to grow, the main issues facing decision-makers at port container terminals are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. Simulations can be used in the decision making process tools due to its ease and ability to reflect the real world system. The object-oriented approach provides for both reusability and modularity that best fits these requirements. In this paper, the object-oriented approach to modeling and simulating general container terminals is presented. Simulation tools based on Visual C++ provide a user-friendly input and output environment through the use of an object class-library. This paper also presents the case study of a simulation of a real container terminal in Pusan, Korea.

형식 도구를 이용한 이산사건 시뮬레이션의 모델 형식화 방법론 (A Model Formalization Methodology of Discrete Event Simulation with Formal Tools)

  • The DEVS (Discrete Event system Specification) formal model for discrete event simulation is a hierarchical, modular model. Because the DEVS formal model has a mathematical structure, it provides a theoretic background of discrete event simulation model. However, the DEVS formal model is difficult to understand because of its mathematical structure. Also, since the DEVS formal model is often constructed by heuristic, subjective method of model designer from the model, a systematic model built-in methodology does not exist. In this paper, we propose the model formalization methodology from an informal model to the DEVS formal model. For this formalization methodology, we introduce formal tools for model construction based on the DEVS ( from an informal model : Event Dependency Graph (EDG) for the event analysis and State Representation Graph(SRG) for the system state analysis.

  • Recently in manufacturing environment, manufacturing order is characterized by unstable market demand, shorter product life cycle, a variety of product and shorter production lead time. In order to adapt this manufacturing order, flexible manufacturing systems(FMS) in manufacturing technology advances into the direction that machines become further versatile functionally and that tools are controlled by fast tool delivery device. Unlike conventional FMS to mainly focus on part flow, it is important to control tool flow in single-stage multimachine systems(SSMS), consisting of versatile machines and fast tool delivery device. This research is motivated by the thought that exact estimation of tool competition at part release in SSMS enhances the system performance. In this paper, in SSMS under dynamic tool allocation strategy to share tools among machines, we propose real-time part release and tool allocation algorithms which can apply real factory and which can improve system performance.

Model test and numerical simulation of OC3 spar type floating offshore wind turbine

  • Nowadays, the study on Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs) is being performed globally. Dozens of numerical simulation tools have been developed for designing FOWTs and simulating their performances in combined wave and wind environments. On the other hand, model tests are still required to verify the results obtained from numerical simulation tools. To predict seakeeping performance of the OC3-Hywind platform, a OC3 spar model moored by a 3-leg catenary spread mooring system with a delta connection was built with a 1/128 scale ratio. The model tests were carried out for various sea states, including rotating rotor effect with wind in the Ocean Engineering Wide Tank, University Of Ulsan (UOU). The model test results are compared with the numerical simulations by UOU in-house code and FAST.

PC 기반 회전익기/전장품 HILS 환경 개발

  • 실시간 시뮬레이션 및 HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation)는 항공기 설계 및 개발에 있어서 개발기간의 단축과 비용절감 측면에서 필수적이며 컴퓨팅 기술의 발달로 그 중요성이 더욱 부각되고 있다. 복잡한 운동모델과 실시간 시뮬레이션에 대한 요구사항을 충족시키기 위하여 분산처리에 의한 시뮬레이션이 요구되며 실시간 컴퓨터 환경 내에서 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어를 개발해야 하므로 개발 및 디버그, 유지보수가 매우 어렵다. 특히 실시간, 무 교착상태의 고성능 분산코드를 작성하는 경우는 더욱 그러하다. 본 연구에서 구축하는 회전익기 HILS 환경은 이러한 어려움을 상당부분 처리함으로써 사용자가 직접 코드를 손대지 않고 HILS 및 시뮬레이션을 수행할 수 있도록 상용화된 부품과 개발된 최신 툴을 이용하여 구성하였다. Matlab/Simulink 환경에서 개발된 회전익기 비행시뮬레이션 소프트웨어를 기준으로 하여 HILS 환경 및 MILS(Man In the Loop) 환경이 추가되어 조종사의 직접 입력에 대한 반응을 실제 하드웨어에 피드백 하는 MILS-HILS 통합 환경을 구축하였다. 개발기간의 단축 및 유지보수의 편의를 위하여 RT-Lab을 사용하여 실시간 코드를 생성하고 타켓컴퓨터에 다운로드 하는 방식으로 실시간 시뮬레이션이 가능하다.

M&S 기반의 비행조종컴퓨터 하드웨어 설계 프로세스 개선을 위한 툴 개발 (Development of Hardware Design Process Enhancement Tool for Flight Control Computer using Modeling and Simulation)

  • 비행조종컴퓨터 하드웨어 개발은 상용 툴 및 전용 개발치구가 전무하여 전 근대적인 방법으로 개발하고 있어 개발 기간을 단축하기가 용이하지 않다. 모델링 및 시뮬레이션과 가상현실 기술을 이용하여 비행조종컴퓨터 하드웨어 개발에 적용하는 프로세스 개선 툴이 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 비행조종컴퓨터 입/출력 신호 흐름, 입력 신호의 고장모니터 및 고장 관리 알고리즘, 논리 회로의 작동, 회로기판 조립체의 형상 및 장착 등과 같은 비행조종컴퓨터의 설계특성을 가상의 공간에 시각화 하고 모사할 수 있는 프로세스 개선 툴을 제안한다. 프로세스 개선 툴 사용자는 open flight format의 3차원 모델링 데이터를 이용하여 구성된 비행조종컴퓨터 모델을 사용하여 회로기판 조립체까지 분해/조립을 할 수 있으며 다양한 비행조종컴퓨터 설계 형상을 시뮬레이션 할 수 있다.

연계적 공학해석 교육을 위한 워크플로우 기반 시뮬레이션 환경 개발 및 활용 고찰 (Workflow-based Environment and its Use Scenario for the Education of Connective Engineering Simulation)

  • The importance of software in the engineering field is increasing day by day, so the utilization and understanding of the simulation software in the engineering design stage has become the core competence of the engineer. This study presents a new software education method for multiple systems in the field of mechanical engineering using a workflow execution environment as a sub-module of a computational platform (called EDISON platform) that can incorporate in-house software tools developed by many simulation tool developers. It can execute not only individual software tools such as fluid flow, structure, optimal design, but also conduct connective executions of multiple software tools. Based on this simulation environment, a methodology was proposed that can be applied to convergence types of engineering educations. By properly using this methodology, it is expected that beginning engineers could encourage their specialties understanding the big pictures of the analysis processes.

  • 무기체계 효과도 분석을 위한 통합 시뮬레이션 엔진은 모델의 개발부터 시뮬레이션 수행 및 분석에 이르는 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 전 단계에 걸쳐 도구와 서비스 및 인터페이스를 제공해야 한다. 다양한 국방 통합 시뮬레이션 엔진을 제공하고 있는 국외와는 달리, 국내에서는 자체적인 분산 실시간 모의체계 엔진에 대한 연구 및 개발이 미흡하여 무기체계 M&S(Modeling and Simulation) 활동 시 유사 업무가 반복되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 국외의 기 개발된 국방 M&S 모의엔진의 서비스를 비교 분석하여 무기체계 효과도 분석을 지원하기 위한 통합 시뮬레이션 엔진인 OpenSIM(Open Simulation Engine for Interoperable Model)을 소개하고, OpenSIM에서 제공하는 서비스의 범위 및 내용을 정의한다. 정의된 서비스는 모델링 실행 분석에서 공통적으로 많이 사용되는 클래스, 함수 및 데이터 등을 구현하여 프로그래밍의 복잡도를 감소시킬 수 있다.
