  • There is a need to analyze various factors in evacuation safety assessment of building in fire. In the current performance based design, evacuation safety assessment in case of fire is being conducted through the simulation as FDS and Pathfinder. However, the location and size of the door, the location of evacuation in the event of a fire are not considered when design. Accordingly, it is difficult to determine the worst case scenario considering the actual fire. Therefore in this study, in this study, we will propose an appropriate evaluation plan through simulation considering the worst-case scenario that may occur in case of fire.

  • Purpose: To describe nursing students' perceptions of their experiences on the home visiting simulation in community health nursing practicum. Methods: Descriptive survey method was used to evaluate students' experiences from the home visiting simulation. Results: The simulation was divided into three sections: orientation, facilitating the scenario and debriefing. The orientation was held for fifteen minutes, and four sessions of the simulation were implemented for 180 minutes. Sixty-one nursing students participated (91.8% female) and the mean age was $21.4{\pm}2.4$ years. No one had prior simulation experiences. Participants experienced reflective thinking during the scenario implementation and debriefing session. They perceived the home visiting simulation as an active learning and realistic training environment. However, participants expressed difficulties in focusing on the simulation when their peers played a patient role. In addition, peer patient role-players expressed the role burden. Conclusion: The home visiting simulation is a feasible and effective method for attaining goals a community health nursing clinical course for students. It can be used as a part of an orientation before the clinical rotation or as an evaluation after the clinical rotation. To provide a realism, we recommend using standardized patients. And further research on the effects of using standardized patients is recommended.

  • Global warming accelerates both carbon (C) input through increased forest productivity and heterotrophic C emission in forest soils, and a future trend in soil C dynamics is uncertain. In this study, the Korean forest soil carbon model (KFSC model) was applied to 1,467,458 ha of Pinus densiflora forests in Korea to predict future C dynamics under RCP 8.5 climate change scenario (RCP scenario). Korea was divided into 16 administrative regions, and P. densiflora forests in each region were classified into six classes by their stand ages : 1 to 10 (I), 11 to 20 (II), 21 to 30 (III), 31 to 40 (IV), 41 to 50 (V), and 51 to 80-year-old (VI+). The forest of each stand age class in a region was treated as a simulation unit, then future net primary production (NPP), soil respiration (SR) and forest soil C stock of each simulation unit were predicted from the 2012 to 2100 under RCP scenario and constant temperature scenario (CT scenario). As a result, NPP decreased in the initial stage of simulation then increased while SR increased in the initial stage of simulation then decreased in both scenarios. The mean NPP and SR under RCP scenario was 20.2% and 20.0% higher than that under CT scenario, respectively. When the initial age class was I, IV, V or VI+, predicted soil C stock under CT scenario was higher than that under RCP scenario, however, the countertrend was observed when the initial age class was II or III. Also, forests having a lower site index showed a lower soil C stock. It suggested that the impact of temperature on NPP was higher when the forests grow faster. Soil C stock under RCP scenario decreased at the end of simulation, and it might be derived from exponentially increased SR under the higher temperature condition. Thus, the difference in soil C stock under two scenarios will be much larger in the further future.

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the acquisition and retention effects on diabetes knowledge and academic self-efficacy of patient simulation-based hypoglycemia scenario using a high-fidelity simulator. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest/posttest repeated measures quasi-experimental design determined if nursing simulation using a high-fidelity simulator helps students acquire and retain diabetes knowledge and academic self-efficacy. A total of 101 nursing students from two universities participated in this study, comprising the experimental and control groups. The experimental group (n=52) at a university in S city comprised participants in an adult nursing class, nursing practicum, and simulation education. The control group (n=49) at a university in C city participated in an adult nursing class and nursing practicum without simulation education. Results: The experimental group had statistically significant group-time interaction effects on diabetes knowledge (p=.044) and self-confidence (p<.001) of academic self-efficacy compared to the control group. Conclusion: The results indicated that the patient simulation-based hypoglycemia scenario using a high-fidelity simulator applied to nursing education is useful in encouraging nursing students to engage in strategies with acquisition and retention effects, enhancing their diabetes knowledge and self-confidence of academic self-efficacy. Therefore, educators should use simulation programs effectively with nursing classes and practicum to enhance the effects of nursing competencies.

  • Environmental data plays an important role to enhance the reliability of experimental results in M&S(Modeling and Simulation). Especially in Military M&S, extreme weather events can be used for virtual training and simulation importantly. However, the environmental data is huge and it is dispersed among multiple organizations. It is difficult for M&S operators to select the date and area where the weather phenomenon occurs in the real environmental data and to acquire them. Environmental data retrieval technology based on Fuzzy criteria is one of the important technologies for developing Environmental Scenario Generator. As a result of this study, a fuzzy retrieval algorithm composed of four main parameters(RV, MF, FRA, and MRV) was presented. This study suggests that the RV can be used as 14 m/s for wind speed and 80 mm/d for precipitation to search the date of storm accompanied by high wind. The MF, the FRA, and MRV can be used sigmoid, 0.2, and 1 respectively. The algorithm proposed in this study is expected to be very useful for searching the date on which weather phenomena necessary for simulation occurred.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the types of errors that occurred and were recovered in a simulated transfusion scenario by nursing students. Methods: Twenty-eight teams of a total of 89 nursing students participated in a transfusion simulation using a high fidelity simulator. Data were collected by observing rule based errors and built in errors recovered according to the framework of Eindhoven model. Reflective journaling was used to identify perceived safety-threatening errors and commitment to improvement. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: All teams committed the rule based errors in the scenario. The most common errors occurred in the coordination category related to communication with physician. Most of students perceived the transfusion reaction as a safety-threatening error. Conclusion: The findings indicate that students lack patient safety competence. The simulation training to decrease errors and improve safe practice provides nursing students with an effective strategy to develop patient safety competence.

  • This paper presents an evaluation scenario of safety performance for extraordinary service permission of autonomous vehicle driving on a motorway. Based on advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) which is already mass-production, an autonomous vehicle driving on motorway is tested on the public roads and also getting close to mass-production. Before the autonomous vehicle tested, the safety of autonomous driving system should be evaluated based on a proper test scenario. Prior to develop the test scenario, this paper reviews the licensing standards for an autonomous vehicle in California and Nevada, and the international regulations of each ADAS. To develop the scenario, the driving conditions of motorway are categorized into five modes and fundamental evaluation requirements of elements of autonomous driving system are derived. An evaluation scenario, which represents the real driving conditions, has been developed to assess the safety of autonomous vehicle. This scenario has validated by computer simulation using model predictive control (MPC) based autonomous driving algorithm.

  • In the last few years, the massive development in wireless networks, high internet speeds and improvement in car manufacturing has shifted research focus to Vehicular Ad-HOC Networks (VANETs). Consequently, many related frameworks are explored, and it is found that security is the primary issue for VANETs. Despite that, a small number of research studies have taken into consideration the identification of performance standards and parameters. In this paper, VANET security frameworks are explored, studied and analysed which resulted in the identification of a list of performance evaluation parameters. These parameters are defined and categorized based on the nature of parameter (security or general context). These parameters are identified to be used by future researchers to evaluate their proposed VANET security frameworks. The implementation paradigms of security frameworks are also identified, which revealed that almost all research studies used simulation for implementation and testing. The simulators used in the simulation processes are also analysed. The results of this study showed that most of the surveyed studies used NS-2 simulator with a percentage of 54.4%. The type of scenario (urban, highway, rural) is also evaluated and it is found that 50% studies used highway urban scenario in simulation.
