This simulation first allows us to define a transition zone from a bubble to jet mode of the argon out-flow and hereinafter to define a similar area for water-steam leak in the KALIMER SG (Korea Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor Steam Generator) using a water mock-up system, taking into account the KALIMER leak classification and tube bundle design, as a simulation of a real water-steam into sodium leak. in accordance with leak conditions in the KALIMER SG, the transition from bubbling to jetting is studied by means of turbulence regime simulation for argon out-flow through a very small orifice, which has the equivalent diameter of about 0.253 mm. finally the noise generation mechanism is explained from the existing experimental data. We also confirmed the possibility of micro-leak detection from the information of the bubbling mode through simulations and the experiment in this study.
A Computational Fluid Dynamics model is presented in this study for the simulation of the complex fluid flows with free surfaces inside the Tuned Liquid Column Dampers in horizontal motion. The characteristics of the fluid model of the TLCD in horizontal motion include the free surface of the multiphase flow and the horizontal moving frame. In this study, the time depend unsteady Standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model based on Navier-Stokes equations is chosen. The volume of fluid (VOF) method and sliding mesh technique are adopted to track the free surface of water inside the vertical columns of TLCD and treat the moving boundary of the walls of TLCD in horizontal motion. Several model solution parameters comprising different time steps, mesh sizes, convergence criteria and discretization schemes are examined to establish model parametric independency results. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data in the dimensionless amplitude of the water column in four different configured groups of TLCDs with four different orifice areas. The predicted natural frequencies and the head loss coefficient of TLCDs from CFD model are also compared with the experimental data. The predicted numerical results agree well with the available experimental data.

This study was conducted to qualify the equality of the flow distribution from open channel between rapid mixing basin and flocculation basins in a domestic full-scale water treatment plant, and suggest a remedy for improving the equality. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the suggested remedy, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique are used, and for verifying the CFD simulation results wet tests were carried out for the pilot scale channel based on geometric similarity. From the results of CFD simulation and wet tests, it was investigated that the modification of hydraulic structure in the distribution channel, which is to install the longitudinal orifice baffle in flow direction, could improve the equality of the flow distribution. Also, in the case that Froude number is relatively small (Froude number <<0.03), the open ratio of orifices on the installed baffle hardly affects the equality of flow distribution.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of longitudinal baffle on hydrodynamic behavior within a certain full-scale sedimentation basin (flow rate per basin; $1,000m^3/d$). Comparative experimental investigations have been carried out on the sediment removal efficiencies and the sludge deposit distribution in the baffled and un-baffled sedimentation basin, respectively. From the results derived in the baffled and un-baffled sedimentation, the turbidity removal rate in the baffled sedimentation basin is about 38% higher than that in un-baffled. Also, the height of sludge deposit in the baffled sedimentation basin is approximately 20% lower, and the sludge concentration is 10% higher than those in un-baffled sedimentation basin. In order to explain the experimental results and investigate the effect of longitudinal baffle in more detail, we conducted Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. From the results of CFD simulation, the flow, especially in the near of outlet orifice, was more stable in the case of longitudinal baffled sedimentation basin than that in un-baffled basin. Also, it could be concluded that the longitudinal baffle made a fully developed flow more effective for sedimentation.

In China, agricultural irrigation water often contains a lot of suspended sediment which may cause the nozzle wear. In this study, a new numerical simulation combing the Discrete Phase Model and a remeshing algorithm was conducted. The geometric boundary deformation caused by the erosion wear, was considered. The weight loss of the nozzle, the node displacement and the flow field were investigated and discussed. The timestep sensitivity analysis showed that the timestep is very critical in the erosion modeling due to the randomness and the discreteness of the erosion behavior. Based on the simulation results, the major deformation of the boundary wall due to the erosion was found at the corners between outlet portion and contraction portion. Based on this remeshing algorithm, the simulated erosion weight loss of the nozzle is 4.62% less compared with the case without boundary deformation. The boundary deformation changes the pressure and velocity distribution, and eventually changes the sediment distribution inside the nozzle. The average turbulence kinetic energy at the outlet orifice is found to decrease with the erosion time, which is believed to change the nozzle's spray performance eventually.

Ifis recommended that the injection rate should be accurate and reliable in the input data of the performance simulation in diesel engine. Matsuoka Sin improved W. Bosch's injection ratio measurement system. Matsuoka Sin reduced length of the test pipe and set the orifice. However, it was not measured accurately to measure the injection ratio due to reflection wave. In the present thesis, the improved measurement system with combination of the conventional W. Bosch type injection ratio measurement system and Matsuoka Sin type corrected W. Bosch type was practically made. The location of orifice and throttle valve was modified and set one more back pressure valve in order to reduce the effect of reflection wave. The results according to injection condition of multi-hole nozzle are following: 1. Measurement error of injection ratio measurement system in this thesis was $\pm$ 1 %, therefore, its reliability was good. 2. The form of injetion ratio is changed from trapezoidal shape to triangle shape with increase of revolution per minute when injection amount is constant. 3. In the case of constant rpm, the initial injection ratio is almost constant regardless of the amount, meanwhile the injection period becomes longer with increase of the amount. 4. The injection pressure of nozzle isn't largely influenced with injection ratio in the case of constant injection amount and rpm, otherwise the initial injection amount is increased by 3-4% when the injection pressure is low. 5. The injection ratio isn't nearly influenced with back pressure.

The performance of an air conditioner is closely related to the cooling performance of a split-type outdoor unit so that, in most of the relevant preceding studies, the independent performance of an axial fan in an outdoor unit has been studied. However, there is a lack of research on the effects of other components in an outdoor units was rarely investigated. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of the fan orifice among other parts on the flow performance of the outdoor unit was numerically investigated. A virtual fan tester consisting of 18 million grids was developed for highly resolved flow simulation. The unsteady RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) equations are numerically solved by using finite-volume CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) techniques. In order to verify the validity of the numerical methods, the predicted P-Q curve of the cooling fan in a full outdoor unit is compared with the measured one. Optimization of orifice shape was carried out for maximum flow performance of the outdoor unit using the validated numerical method.

In this study, a novel systematic design procedure by Genetic Algorithm of a two stage relief valve is proposed. First of all, a mathematical model describing the dynamics of a balanced piston type relief valve has been derived. Governing equations such as dynamic equations for the main spool and the pilot spool and flow equations for each orifice are established. The mathematical model is verified by comparing the results of simulation with that of experiments. Furthermore, influences of the parameters on the dynamic characteristics of a relief valve have been investigated by simulation of the proposed model. Major design parameters on the valve response are determined, which affect the system response significantly. And then, using the determined parameters, the optimization of the two stage relief valve by Genetic Algorithm, which is a random search algorithm can find the global optimum without converging local optimum, is performed. The optimal design process of a two stage relief valve is presented to determine the major design parameters. Fitness function reflects the changing pressure according to parameters. It is shown that the genetic algorithms satisfactorily optimized the major design parameters of the two stage relief valve.
Solenoid valve has used in various industrial field extensively. A solenoid valve has different size, shape and method of operation accordantly to industrial field. Many researchers study on kinds of solenoid valve such as flow rate, dynamic, magnetic field, valve shape and operating method. But the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve are not studied. This paper describes the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve. At first, the diaphragm valve is simulated in AMESim simulation tool. AMESim model found that an effect of valve performance depends on parameter. The parameter is the diaphragm orifice area. And the performance test bench confirms the effect in this parameter. Finally, it finds out the flow rate characteristic and dynamic response time performance on the diaphragm valve.
