Hybrid RANS/LES Simulation of Subsonic Cavity Flow (Hybrid RANS/LES 방법을 이용한 이음속 공동 유동의 수치적 모사)

  • A numerical simulation of an incompressible cavity flow is conducted using the hybrid turbulence model. The model adopted is a modified type of DES using k- ε two-equation model. Cavity geometry and flow condition are based on Cattafesta's experiment. Computational results are compared with the results of Cattafesta's experiment. The simulation successfully predicts the oscillatory features and the Strouhal number of the oscillation compares very favorably with that of the dominant mode of experimental data. Vorticity contours obtained from the simulation data are consistent with the smoke visualization of the Cattafesta's experiment. The coherent structures of cavity flow are also investigated using Q criterion.

  • Through a simulation experiment, often an experimenter is concerned with estimating the system parameters of the linear model consisting of m design points from the outputs oft the simulation model. To improve the estimation of the system parameters and reliability of these estimators, appropriate simulation techniques have been developed. For the first order linear model, Schruben and Margolin (1978) exploited the random number assignment rules which uses a combination of common random numbers and antithetic streams in a simulation experiment designed to estimate the system parameters when the design matrix of simulation model admits orthogonal blocking into two blocks. Nozari, Arnold and Pegden (1984) developed a method for appliying the method of control variates to the situation of the linear model having multiple design points. This talk deals with a different way of utilizing controls under the correlation induction strategy of Schruben and Margolin's to improve the simulation efficiency, and presents a procedure for obtaining the estimators of the system parameters analytically. Simulation results on a selected simulation model indicate a promising evidence that a proposed method may yield better results than Schruben and Margolin's method.

Study on the basic efficiency of trawl net (트롤그물의 기본 성능에 관한 고찰)

  • A model experiment, simulation test using personal computer and real sea trial fishing were carried out to investigate the basic efficiency of bottom trawl net which can be used in the sea mount of North West Pacific, and experimental values were analyzed as the values of full-scale bottom trawl net. Hydrodynamic resistance for the full-scale trawl net according to the Koyama equation was 2.1 times higher than that of simulation and 2.4 times higher than that of model experiment at the average towing velocity. At the 3.5kt's of towing speed, net width of the full-scale trawl net was 2.5% smaller than that of simulation and 8.2% larger than that of model experiment. On the fishing experiment of the full-scale trawl net for the 3.5kt's of average towing speed, average net height of A group(same direction with external force) was 423.5% higher than that of model experiment and 457.1% higher than that of simulation and that of B group(opposite direction with external force) were 283.8% and 306.3% higher than in case of model experiment and Simulation respectively. Net mouth of the full-scale trawl net was 338.1-504.6% higher than those of model experiment and simulation in A group, and 525.2-745.3% higher in B group.

Application to Non-linear Viscoelastic Model on Capillary Extrusion of Rubber Compounds (고무복합체의 모세관 압출에서 비선형 점탄성 모델의 적용)

  • Rubber compounds have high viscoelastic property. One of the viscoelastic behaviors during profile extrusion is the swelling of extrudate. In this study, die swell of rubber compounds at the capillary die have been investigated through an experiment and computer simulation. They have been performed using fluidity tester in experiment and commercial CFD code, Polyflow in computer simulation. Die swell of rubber compounds for relaxation time at several modes under same conditions with the experiment were predicted using non-linear differential viscoelastic model, Phan-Thien-Tanner (PTT) model. The simulation was analyzed compared with the experiment. Viscoelastic behaviors for pressure, velocity and shear rate distribution were analyzed at the capillary die. It is concluded that the PTT model successfully represented the amount of the optimal die swell of rubber compounds for relaxation time at different modes.

  • A Monte Carlo computer simulation study was conducted to determine the most efficient sampling design for the blue crab dredge capture efficiency experiment performed in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, U. S. A. The input values were the number of dredge tracks in each experimental area, the number of tows per experiment, the number of experiments, the mean density of crabs per unit area, the negative binomial coefficient, the gear capture efficiency, and the tow error. As a result of the study, a four-track experiment with twenty to twenty-eight tows was estimated to be the best in terms of precision and accuracy of the gear capture efficiency.

  • [ $\bigcirc$ ] In the growth simulation using genetic coefficients calculated with fooled data under various condition, WAGT was not higher and LAI, WLVG, WSO were higher, but WST was similar before grain-filling stage after the became lower because of higher translocation of carbohydrates than in the growth simulation using genetic coefficients calculated with data under high nitrogen applicated condition. $\bigcirc$ Genetic coefficients should be calculated with data showing potential in ORYZA2000, but under 180 kg and 240 kg N condition in 2003, plants were infected by panicle blast and also yield was not higher than under 120 kg N condition showing not potential condition and therefore not appropriate for genetic coefficients estimation compared with pooled data from various condition.

  • [ $\bigcirc$ ] In the phenology model of ORYZA2000, the effect of photoperiod on the developmental rate was a little ignored because most crop parameters were measured with IRRI varieties which are insensitive to photoperiod, therefore it is very difficult to apply this phenology model directly to Korean varieties which are usually sensitive to photoperiod. $\bigcirc$ After introducing PPFAC and PPSE to improve the phenology model, the precision of heading date prediction was improved but not satisfied. $\bigcirc$ In the growth simulation using data from several regions, yield tended to be overestimated under high nitrogen applicated condition. $\bigcirc$ The precision of yield was much improved by introducing nitrogen use efficiency, but still different between regions because of different soil fertility or property of irrigation water between regions

  • This paper describes the simulation study which estimates the container crane efficiency in container terminal. In most simulation studies, it is assumed that container cranes are available at any time. Though the failures of container cranes don't occur often, they are very serious problems on terminal efficiency. As usual, the failures of container crane cause arrived ships to delay the departure time. In this study, a queueing simulation model for container terminal, which focuses on the failures of container cranes, is designed. The simulation approach appears to be the most appropriate one because it allows to avoid the usual exponential assumption on interarrivals of ships and service times of container cranes. Using the developed model, we tested the efficiency of container cranes considering failures with a real system size and performed the simulation experiment on real container terminal to validate the developed simulation model. The results of simulation experiment were analyzed using output statistics, which include the waiting times of vessels and yard tractors, the utilization for container cranes, and the berth occupancy rates.

Simulation Injection Mass with Variable Injection Condition in GDI Engine using AMESim (AMESim을 이용한, GDI 엔진에서 연료의 분사조건 변화에 따른 분사량 변화 예측)

  • In case of GDI engine, shape of injected fuel and injection mass are one of the most important factors for good fuel efficiency and power. But it should be too inefficient and difficult to acquire injection mass data by experiment because condition in engine vary with temperature, pressure, and so on. So, this paper suggests the AMESim (Advanced Modeling Environment for Simulation of Engineering Systems) as simulation program to calculate injection mass. For both simulation and experiment, n-heptane is used as fuel. In AMESim, I modeled the GDI injector and simulated several cases. In experiment, I acquired the injection mass using Bosch method to apply ambient pressure. The AMESim show reasonable result in comparison with experimental data especially at injection pressure 15 MPa. Other conditions are also in good accord with experimental data but error is a little bit large because the injection mass is so low.

  • In this paper the forming simulation of circular bulge by using PAM-STAMP has been performed to estimate the sheet metal forning and the plastic deformation characteristic of circular bulge. The uniaxial tension tests adn bulge tests are carried out for studying the forming characteristics of materials, and also Moire experiment are carried out for measuring the radius of curvature of the bulge and the polar compressive thickness strain. In order to compare the simulation results with the experiment and Hills theory, the relationships between redius of curvature adn polar height of the bulge, between hydraulic pressure and polar height, and between polar compressive thickness strain and polar height, are used. According to this study, the results of simulation and Hills theory are good agreement to the experiment. So, the results of simulation by using PAM-STAMP and Hills theory will give engineers good information to assess the formagbility and plastic deformation characteristic of hydraulic circular bulge test.
