Using the design of experiment (DOE), factors affecting the particle size of hydrated liquid crystalline vesicles containing a high content of ceramide were analyzed and the mixture composition was optimized. Manufacturing temperature, amount of ethanol, and ultrasonic time were selected as the main variables affecting the droplet size of the vesicles, and the effect of these variables on the droplet size was examined through the signal to noise (S/N) ratios of Taguchi method and ANOVA analysis. In addition, mixture composition experiments of three lipid components constituting the vesicle membrane, hydrogenated phosphatidyl choline (HPC), cholesterol (Chol), and ceramide (Cer), were performed according to the simplex central design matrix of the mixture. Regression analysis was conducted with the experimental data to obtain a model equation, and the optimal mixing composition of the three lipid components to minimize the vesicle droplet size was determined as HPC (0.6), Chol (0.1), and Cer (0.3).

With the recent increase in the demand for electric vehicles, it is necessary to identify the high current safety of automobile parts. Among the automobile parts, the EPDM parts required colored parts from the existing black; therefore, it was necessary to change the basic filler from carbon black to silica. The rubber used in automobile parts is flexible and exhibits basic characteristics of high strength and elongation. However, as the filler is changed to silica, its physical properties, such as tensile strength and elongation, are lower than those of the existing carbon black base. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the mechanical properties with the addition of the EPDM compound using silica as a base without degrading the physical properties of EPDM. In this study, an experiment based on the additive content was performed using the mixture experimental planning method to analyze the mechanical properties according to the additive type and mixing ratio of silica-based EPDM. The mixing ratio of the four additives was set using a simplex lattice design, and the tensile strength, elongation, modulus 300%, and permanent compression reduction rate were analyzed for mechanical characteristics, and rheometer experiments were performed for vulcanization characteristics. Through statistical analysis of the measured data, the main effects and interactions of the EPDM-blended rubber additives were analyzed. These results can be used to derive a mixing ratio of additives that satisfies the required characteristics of the EPDM compound.

This paper proposes a RSM-based hybrid evolutionary algorithm (RHEA) which combines the merits of the popular programs such as genetic algorithm (GA), tabu search method, response surface methodology (RSM). This algorithm, for improving the convergent speed that is thought to be the demerit of genetic algorithm, uses response surface methodology and simplex method. The mutation of GA offers random variety to finding the optimum solution. In this study, however, systematic variety can be secured through the use of tabu list. Efficiency of this method has been proven by applying traditional test functions and comparing the results to GA. And it was also proved that the newly suggested algorithm is very effective to find the global optimum solution to minimize the weight for avoiding the resonance of fresh water tank that is placed in the rear of ship. According to the study, GA's convergent speed in initial stages is improved by using RSM method. An optimized solution is calculated without the evaluation of additional actual objective function. In a summary, it is concluded that RHEA is a very powerful global optimization algorithm from the view point of convergent speed and global search ability.

The mutation of GA offers random variety to finding the optimum solution. In this study, however, systematic variety can be secured through the use of tabu list. Efficiency of this method has been proven by applying traditional left functions and comparing the results to GA. It was also proved that the newly suggested algorithm is very effective to find the global optimum solution to minimize the weight for avoiding the resonance of fresh water tank that is placed in the after body area of ship. According to the study, GA's convergent speed in initial stages is improved by using RSM method. An optimized solution is calculated without the evaluation of additional actual objective function. In a summary, it is concluded that RHEA is a very powerful global optimization algorithm from the view point of convergent speed and global search ability.

In this paper, it deals with runoff analysis in a mountainous watershed where the concentration time of the river is much Shorter than that of slopes. The momentum and continuity equation are used as the basic expressions and they are solved by the kinematic wave theory. By the introducing the distribution of concentration time, representing the characteristics of topographical and hydraulic factors, into a solution. A response function is derived. Using the optimization technique (simplex Method), the response functions derived in this paper are tested by comparing the observed and the estimated values, and shows promising.

As for analytes which did not represent the differences of the selectivity on the stationary and mobile phase, secondary chemical equilibrium theory was applied to study pH effects on the separation of alkylphenols. Mobile phase was consisted of an aqueous sodium carbonate-bicarbonate buffer and acetonitrile. The maximum selectivity for adjacent peak pairs was predicted from those values of $k^{\prime}_{HA}/k^{\prime}_{A-}$ and ${\Delta}pK$. The optimum pH determined by this method was 11.18 pH and solvent selectivity were considered at the same time to invoke the full range of selectivity effects possible for separations. Quaternary mixture composed of methanol, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran and water was adjusted to optimum pH 11.18. As the statistical simplex technique of an overlapping resolution map (ORM) was used to predict the optimized solvent system. The optimum solvent, which gives complete separation of alkylphenols, was determined as follws MeOH : ACN : THF = 14.4 : 81.8 : 2.8.

A diffractive optical element(DOE) for an optical pickup system is proposed in this thesis. Optimization algorithms are used to synthesise the DOE to meet a detailed specification of the two kind of cost function. The one isso called as apodization which refers to the process of suppressing the secondary maxima and the other is so called as sharpness which refers to the process of reducing the size of primary maxima. The result obtained by simplex optimization method is that the apodization and sharpness are well achieved separately. In apodization, the secondary maxima is reduced up to 39%. And in sharpness, the size of first maxima is reduced to 95.2%.

Background : Bell's palsy(BP) is defined as an idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis of acute onset, accounting for more than 50% of all cases of facial paralysis. Different theories on the etiology of BP have been proposed. Herpes simplex virus-1(HSV) has been the most suspicious causative agent, but varicella zoster virus(VZV) also is suspected. Objectives : We evaluated the serological changes of IgG and IgM titer of HSV and VZV to know the causative agent of BP. Materials and Methods : Subjects consisted of 35 patients who developed acute idiopathic unilateral facial palsy(16 men and 19 women from 9 to 78 years old) within a week of onset. We took the serum of the acute and convalescent stages, respectively. Serum IgG and IgM titer of HSV and VZV were measured in acute and convalescent stages by EIA method. Results : Only the HSV IgG titer showed statistically significant elevation in the convalescent stage(p=0.0291). Others did not show any significant change between the acute and convalescent stage. Conclusion : We concluded that HSV may be related to the causative agent of BP.

Jangchan reservoir is located in Okcheon county, Chungbuk province, of which watershed area is $29.4\;km^2$ from outside, and $5.1\;km^2$ from inside watershed, effective storage capacity is $392{\times}10^4\;m^3$, paddy area to be irrigated is 474 ha. To determine inflows from Keumcheon weir located in outside watershed on an optimum level, a repeated procedure which is composed of simulation of inflows to Keumcheon weir, setting of range of water taking at Keumcheon weir, simulation of inflows to Jangchan reservoir, estimation of paddy water from Jangchan reservoir, and simulation of water storages in Jangchan reservoir was selected. Parameters of DAWAST model for simulating inflows to Jangchan reservoir were determined to UMAX of 315 mm, LMAX of 21 mm, FC of 130 mm, CP of 0.018, and CE of 0.007 with absolute sum of errors in reservoir water storages minimized using unconstrained Simplex method because of no inflows data. Inflows to Keumcheon weir were simulated to $2,132{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average. Optimal range of water taking at Keumcheon weir to transfer to Jangchan reservoir were $0.81{\sim}50\;mm/km^2/d$, which were summed up to $1,397{\times}10^4\;m^3$ in 66% of total on an annual average. Inflows to Jangchan reservoir were simulated to $1,739{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average of which were 80 % from Keumcheon weir of outside watershed. Requirements to paddy water from Jangchan reservoir were estimated to $543{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average.
The community structure of intertidal benthic marine algae were studied seasonally at Odongdo, southern coast of Korea, from June 1982 to May 1983. Algal coverage in $50{\times}50\;cm$ quadrat were recorded for each species by line transect method. The vertical zonation investigated by line transects is recognized into three groups : Upper, middle, and lower zones. The representative species are Gelidium divaricatum, Enteromorpha linza, Porphyra yezoensis, Scytosiphon lomentaria, Blidingia nana, Ectocarpus confervoides in the upper, Ulva pertusa, Chondria crassicaulis in the middle, and Sargassum sagamianum, S. thunbergii, Undaria pinnatifida, Gelidium amansii and various other red algae in the lower zone. The number of algal species and coverage were generally highest in April and lowest in August. Species which appear dominant at least once a year were all of the spring type and the others were autumn type. According to the cluster analysis by similarity index community coefficient(SICC) among 5 transects, the algal communities are divided into two groups, i. e. open-sea group and inland-sea group.
