Experimental Study of Drone Detection and Classification through FMCW ISAR and CW Micro-Doppler Analysis (고해상도 FMCW 레이더 영상 합성과 CW 신호 분석 실험을 통한 드론의 탐지 및 식별 연구)

  • There are increasing demands to provide early warning against intruding drones and cope with potential threats. Commercial anti-drone systems are mostly based on simple target detection by radar reflections. In real scenario, however, it becomes essential to obtain drone radar signatures so that hostile targets are recognized in advance. We present experimental test results that micro-Doppler radar signature delivers partial information on multi-rotor platforms and exhibits limited performance in drone recognition and classification. Afterward, we attempt to generate high resolution profile of flying drone targets. To this purpose, wide bands radar signals are employed to carry out inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) imaging against moving drones. Following theoretical analysis, experimental field tests are carried out to acquire real target signals. Our preliminary tests demonstrate that high resolution ISAR imaging provides effective measures to detect and classify multiple drone targets in air.

  • In order to increase reliability and reduce system cost, this paper studies particularly applicable method for sensorless PM BLDCM drive system. The waveform of the motor internal voltages(or back emf) contains a fundamental and higher order frequency harmonics. Therefore the third harmonic component is extracted from the stator phase voltage. The resulting third harmonic signal keeps a constant phase relationship with the rotor flux for any motor speed and load condition, and is practically free of noise that can be introduced by the inverter switching, making this a robust sensing method. In addition, a simple starting method and a speed estimation approach are also proposed. Some experimental results are Provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.

  • This paper presents the design and characteristics analysis of axial-flux permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous generator of two air-gap. Dual axial-flux type PM synchronous generator commonly appears in applications where the generator axial dimension is more limited than the radial dimension. The strengths of dual axial-flux generator include ; (1) by employing two air-gaps, the rotor-stator attractive forces are balanced and no net axial or thrust load appeals on the generator hearings ; (2) heat produced by the stator windings appears on the outside of the generator, making it relatively easy to remove, and so on. In this paper, the simple magnetic equivalent circuit approach is used for initial design iteration, and the finite-element method is applied to analyze the detailed characteristics. The test results of driving characteristics are presented as well. The results are very similar to predicted performance of design.

  • In this thesis, it is a purpose to carry out speed control of DC servo motor without using encoder and the resolver which are speed sensor of DC servo motor and it should use estimate algorithm or observer and must assume a speed in order to control speed sensorless. Therefore, high gain observer was designed to estimate rotor speed of DC servo motor and it carries out speed control from the feedback of the speed that assumed done in the thesis. Also, implementation used easy PI controller in speed-controller of DC motor though it was simple. It is compared estimate performance of Luenberger and high gain observer in a way of computer simulation in order to verify performance of the high gain observer which proposed in this thesis, and proved excellency of the high gain observer. And the thesis proved that smooth speed sensorless control of DC servo motor was implemented in invariable driving.

  • To acquire a performed and practical solution that is free from chattering, this study proposes the use of an adaptive super-twisting algorithm to drive a single-phase induction motor. Partial feedback linearization is applied before using a super-twisting algorithm to control the speed and stator currents. The load torque is considered an unknown but bounded disturbance. Therefore, a time-varying switching gain that does not require prior knowledge of the disturbance boundary is proposed. A simple sliding surface is formulated as the difference between the real and desired trajectories obtained from the indirect rotor flux oriented control strategy. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control structure, an experimental setup around a digital signal processor (dS1104) is developed and several tests are performed.

  • Today, as the demands for home appliances are increasing, the understanding of noise and vibration characteristics have become more important. It is hard to control its vibration and noise characteristics, because its mechanical structure is very complex. In this study a model of reciprocating compressor is developed. Spring, frame, and LDT are modeled as flexible body, and the other parts are modeled as rigid. FEM model of frame is simplified in order to save the simulation time. We validated the simple model by comparing their natural frequencies and mode shapes. Motor torque is applied to a rotor, and the piston is subjected to a gas pressure. The vibrational characteristics of compressor is analyzed with LS-DYNA. Its results are compared with the simulation results of rigid body frame. The effect of LDT is also studied by comparing the vibration of frame with the results of simulation with no LDT.

Passive suppression of helicopter ground resonance instability by means of a strongly nonlinear absorber

  • In this paper, we study a problem of passive suppression of helicopter Ground Resonance (GR) using a single degree freedom Nonlinear Energy Sink (NES), GR is a dynamic instability involving the coupling of the blades motion in the rotational plane (i.e. the lag motion) and the helicopter fuselage motion. A reduced linear system reproducing GR instability is used. It is obtained using successively Coleman transformation and binormal transformation. The analysis of the steadystate responses of this model is performed when a NES is attached on the helicopter fuselage. The NES involves an essential cubic restoring force and a linear damping force. The analysis is achieved applying complexification-averaging method. The resulting slow-flow model is finally analyzed using multiple scale approach. Four steady-state responses corresponding to complete suppression, partial suppression through strongly modulated response, partial suppression through periodic response and no suppression of the GR are highlighted. An algorithm based on simple criterions is developed to predict these steady-state response regimes. Numerical simulations of the complete system confirm this analysis of the slow-flow dynamics. A parametric analysis of the influence of the NES damping coefficient and the rotor speed on the response regime is finally proposed.

Effect of Blockage Ratio on Wind Tunnel Testing of Small Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines (소형 수직축 풍력발전기 풍동실험시 폐쇄율의 영향)

  • The effect of blockage ratio on wind tunnel testing of small vertical-axis wind turbine has been investigated in this study. Height and rotor diameter of the three blades Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine used in present test were 0.4m and 0.35m respectively. We measured the wind speeds and power coefficient at three different wind tunnels where blockage ratio were 3.5%, 13.4% and 24.7% respectively. The test results show that the measured powers have been strongly influenced by blockage ratio, generally increased as the blockage ratio increases. The maximum power at higher blockage ratio has been obtained at relatively high tip speed ratio compared with that at low blockage ratio. The measured power coefficients under high blockage ratio can be improved from proper correction using the simple correction equation based on blockage factor. In present study, the correction error for power coefficient can be less than 5%, however correction effectiveness reveals relatively poor at high blockage ratio and low wind speed.

  • A high gradient magnetic (HGM) separator prototype with the $2^{nd}$ generation high temperature superconducting (2G HTS) magnetic system operated in sub-cooled nitrogen is presently under development at NRC "Kurchatov Institute" (Moscow, Russia). The main goal of the project is an attempt to shift away from the complicated liquid helium cryostats towards simple cryocooler-based nitrogen cryogenics as much more convenient for HGM separators industrial applications. Using of commercial HTS tapes allows to get a sufficient level of magnetic fields and extraction forces with low energy consumption. The expected operational parameters of the device are 1.2-1.5 T in the empty operational gap and up to 3 T on the ferromagnetic filters. In this paper we briefly describe the design of the HTS rotary separator prototype with the horizontally oriented rotor axis and propose different types of ferromagnetic filters intended for weakly magnetic ores enrichment.

Rotordynamic Analysis of Labyrinth Seal with Swirl Brake (스월 브레이크가 장착된 래버린스 씰의 동특성 해석)

  • In this research, the rotordynamic characteristics of the labyrinth seal with and without swirl brake were predicted using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model. Based on previous studies, a simple swirl brake consisting of square vanes without stagger angle is designed and placed in front of the seal inlet. The rotating frame of reference is utilized to consider the whirling motion of the rotor in the steady-state analysis since the whirling motion is transient behavior in nature. CFD analysis was performed in the range of -1 to 1 pre-swirl ratio for a given seal and swirl brake design and operating conditions. The CFD analysis result shows that the swirl brake effectively reduces the pre-swirl since the circumferential fluid velocity of labyrinth seal with swirl brake was lower than that without swirl brake. The cross-coupled stiffness coefficient, which is greatly affected by the circumferential fluid velocity, increased with an increasing pre-swirl ratio in a seal without a swirl brake but showed a low value in a seal with a swirl brake. The change in the damping coefficient was relatively small. The effective damping coefficient of the labyrinth seal with swirl brake was generally constant and showed a higher value than the labyrinth seal without swirl brake.
