This study aims to quantitatively evaluate failure pressure of wall-thinned elbow under combined load along with internal pressure, by conducting real-scale burst test and finite element analysis together. For quantitative evaluation, failure pressure data was extracted from the real-scale burst test first, and then finite element analysis was carried out to compare with the test result. For the test, the wall-thinning defect of the extrados or intrados inside the center of 90-degree elbow was considered and the loading modes to open or close the specimen maintaining a certain load or displacement were applied. Internal pressure was applied until failure occurred. As a result, when the bending load was applied under the load control condition, the intrados of the defect was more affected by failure pressure than the extrados, and the opening mode was more vulnerable to failure pressure than the closing mode. When the bending load was applied under the displacement control, it was hardly affected by failure pressure though it was slightly different from the defect position. The result of the finite element analysis showed a similar aspect with the test. Moreover, when major factors such as material properties and pipeline thickness were calibrated to accurate values, the analytical results was more similar to the test results.

In this paper, the load-deflection analysis of the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthened Reinforced Concrete (RC) slab using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is investigated. Six reinforced concrete slabs having dimension $1800{\times}400{\times}120mm$ with similar steel bar of 2T10 and strengthened using different length and width of CFRP were tested and compared with similar samples without CFRP. The experimental load-deflection results were normalized and then uploaded in MATLAB software. Loading, CFRP length and width were as neurons in input layer and mid-span deflection was as neuron in output layer. The network was generated using feed-forward network and a internal nonlinear condition space model to memorize the input data while training process. From 122 load-deflection data, 111 data utilized for network generation and 11 data for the network testing. The results of model on the testing stage showed that the generated RNN predicted the load-deflection analysis of the slabs in acceptable technique with a correlation of determination of 0.99. The ratio between predicted deflection by RNN and experimental output was in the range of 0.99 to 1.11.

In this study, the mechanical joint performance of the V-Insert clamp applied to automobile exhaust pipes was evaluated through the experimental investigation of its axial load capacity. The axial load of the V-Insert clamp was also determined by using theoretical equations presented by Shoghi and compared with the experimental results. As results of the theoretical prediction, the axial load of the V-Insert clamp tended to increase along with smaller angle of the V-Insert segment and the lower friction coefficient between the V-Insert segment and exhaust pipes. The experimental results under tightening effects were similar to the theoretical results and the axial load of the V-Insert clamp presented maximum values in the range of all torques at distance of 2mm between each exhaust pipes. The experimental results under loading effects were similar to the theoretical results in the range of lower torques but deviated from the theoretical results in the range of higher torques. These results would be beneficial to improve the joint and sealing performance of the V-Insert clamp.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the biomechanical effects of three different constrained types of an artificial disc on the implanted and adjacent segments in the lumbar spine using a finite element model (FEM). Methods : The created intact model was validated by comparing the flexion-extension response without pre-load with the corresponding results obtained from the published experimental studies. The validated intact lumbar model was tested after implantation of three artificial discs at L4-5. Each implanted model was subjected to a combination of 400 N follower load and 5 Nm of flexion/extension moments. ABAQUS$^{TM}$ version 6.5 (ABAQUS Inc., Providence, RI, USA) and FEMAP version 8.20 (Electronic Data Systems Corp., Plano, TX, USA) were used for meshing and analysis of geometry of the intact and implanted models. Results : Under the flexion load, the intersegmental rotation angles of all the implanted models were similar to that of the intact model, but under the extension load, the values were greater than that of the intact model. The facet contact loads of three implanted models were greater than the loads observed with the intact model. Conclusion : Under the flexion load, three types of the implanted model at the L4-5 level showed the intersegmental rotation angle similar to the one measured with the intact model. Under the extension load, all of the artificial disc implanted models demonstrated an increased extension rotational angle at the operated level (L4-5), resulting in an increase under the facet contact load when compared with the adjacent segments. The increased facet load may lead to facet degeneration.
Hybrid finite element analysis was used to analyze the influence of bearing stiffness on the static properties of a planetary gear system with manufacturing errors. The effects of changes in stiffness were similar for most of the manufacturing errors. State variables were most affected by the stiffness of the planet ,bearings. Floating either the sun or carrier helps to equal load sharing and minimizes the critical tooth stress. The effects of a floating sun and carrier are similar, but it is not recommended that both float, because this can induce greater critical tooth stress. Planet bearing stiffness should be optimized. Both load sharing and critical tooth stress should be considered to determine optimal bearing stiffness.

To evaluate the unit load generation and discharge, pig cage test was conducted. Feed intake, drink amount, and urine generation increased growth stage (heavy weight) of the pig more great. However, the sum of the urine and manure did not show a significant difference in the growth stages of pigs. Because of the limit of the experiment, e.g., research period, high pigpen temperature, breed-related stress and etc., it could not be derived the results of the four seasons. Therefore, in order to generalize the results, the feed intakes were calibrated using a NRC (National Research and nutritional requirements of pigs from the Commission) standards. The finalized unit load generation and generation amounts of manure and urine were estimated at BOD 104.1 g/head/d, T-N 21.2 g/head/d, T-P 4.9 g/head/d, manure 0.96 L/d, urine 1.66 L/d with consideration of revised feed intake. Compare to the former research results of MOE (Ministry of Environment, 1999) and NIAS (National Institute of Animal Science, 2008), the generation amounts of manure and urine were similar to the NIAS's values. In case of unit load generation, BOD and T-N were almost similar in all of them. However, the T-P unit load generation of MOE was more difference, e.g., 2.5 times high, compare to this study.

A snap ring is a kind of metal spring with open ends which can be installed into a groove to prevent lateral movement. In this study a nonlinear finite element analysis model is developed to simulate the fastening process of a snap ring connecting the constant velocity joint and the transmission. Insert load, disengage load and breakage are three important issues. They are analyzed using the developed model. The load histories of simulations are similar to those of tests and the differences of maximum load are around 10%. Bending of the entire ring and unfolding of the end section are major contributors of the fastening load. The load variations caused by the angular position of spline tooth are about 50%. Breakage is highly sensitive to the position of a snap ring.

In the paper, we summarize the result of the experimental research for the overload criteria of domestic distribution transformers considering the electric consumption patterns of customers. For the basic characteristic data of distribution transformer overload, the actual experiments are accomplished. The field data of loads are surveyed from sample transformers for analyzing the consumption pattern of customer load. The load data acquisition devices are equipped, and the algorithm of load pattern classification is applied. In addition to this efforts, various load pattern data. in past are gathered. Then the representative load pattern of each customer type in domestic is extracted. The final results of overload criterions are presented as tabular form through the results of experiments and survey are combined. The field test of the experiment results is peformed using the special manufactured transformers, which can measure both the load and top-oil temperature of transformer. Through this, we verify that the results of field test are similar to the laboratory one and the Proposed overload criteria can be effectively applied to the real system.
The prediction of drawing load is very important in the drawing process. However, it is not easy to calculate the drawing load for the shape drawing process through a theoretical model because of a complex arbitrary final cross section shape. The purpose of this study is to predict drawing load in shape drawing process. The cross section of product is divided with small angle as much as similar with fan-shape. The drawing load of each section was calculated by theoretical model of round to round drawing process. And the shape drawing load was determined by summation of drawing load of each section. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through the FE analysis and shape drawing experiment. It had a good agreement between proposed method, FE analysis and experiment within about 3% errors.

Most of the load distributions in low voltage power feeder distribution systems are designed with approximately balanced and connected at the three phase four wire systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating load unbalance. Load unbalance factor is mainly affected by the impedance of load system. Unbalanced current will draw a highly unbalanced voltage. This paper presents a new calculation method for unbalance factor under the load variation at the three phase four wire system. Load unbalance factor is measured by the power quality measurement apparatus and compared with the current unbalance factor. Two methods are indicated similar results.
