  • The green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer has been studied UV-Vis absorption band of 9-methvl-5,5'-diphenyl-3,3'-bis(3-sulfopropyl)benzoxazolo carbocyanine triethyl ammonium salt in methanol solution and 10% methanol containing 10$^{-2}$ M KCl. the products were observed at 502nm and 540nm(J-band), respectively. The maximum spectral sensitivity of sensntizing silver halide emulsion showed at 546nm. In conclusion, benzoxazolo carbocyanine dye can be used as a green-sensitizing dye for the photographic emulsion.

  • Generally, a pH value of secondary water in a nuclear power plant should be estimated after sampling and cooling down. In this process, the measurement of temperature is very important because a pH value is varied according to the temperature of secondary water. In this study, a noncontact fiber-optic temperature sensor using a silver halide optical fiber is fabricated to measure the temperature of cooled secondary water. And we have measured an infrared radiation, which is transferred by a silver halide optical fiber from a heat source, using a thermopile sensor. The relationships between the temperature of a heat source and the output voltage of the fiber-optic temperature sensor according to the change of distance and angle are determined. The measurable temperature range of the fiber-optic temperature sensor is from 25 to $60^{\circ}C$. Based on the results of this study, a noncontact temperature sensor using a silver halide optical fiber can be developed for the temperature measurement of the pH sample in the secondary water system.

  • The AgI/ PV${\cdot}$THF membrane electrode could be used as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration of single halide and mixture halide solutions with the standard solution of silver nitrate. The errors in the stepwise titrations of mixture halide solutions were considerably large, but by addition of flocculating agent, such as $NaNO_3$ or $Ba(NO_3)_2$, in the sample solution, the errors were greatly reduced. Also, the effects of gelatin, filter paper and temperature on the titration errors were examined.

  • Silver chlorobromoiodide cubic seed emulsion was prepared'in the presence of ammonia and phenylcarbamyl gelatin solution. When benzenethiosulfonate sodium salt (BTS) and 4-hydroxy6-methyl-1,3,3a,7-tetraazaindene (TAI), as growth modifiers, were added in the seed emulsion, the silver halide microcrystals were obtained in the forms of cubo-octahedrons, octahedrons, rhombic dodecahedron by variation of pAg value through controlled double jet. The crystal habits and shapes were determined by means of X-ray diffraction (D/MAX BIB, Rigaku) and electron microscopy (JSM-840, JEOL), respectively.

  • Continuous ND filters are fabricated on the silver halide photoplates. These filters enable us to get intensity modulated laser beam. Two kinds of continuous ND filters are fabricated. Optical density of one filter is increased radically and that of the other is decreased. In order to get a filter having desirable optical density, a mask which has reversed optical density has to be made. made.

  • High diffraction efficiency holographic gratings in silver halide emulsion were fabricated by using reversal bleaching process. The diffraction efficiencies of gratings were improved greatly by applying rapid drying procedure with isopropyl alcohol after bleaching with optimized developers. The dependency of diffraction efficiencies on the different groups of developers, the concentration of bleaching solutions, and the drying methods are investigated experimentally and the results were analyzed theoretically. Same as usual reversal bleaching process, the fabricated gratings showed very low scttering compared to those made by conventional bleach process. The maximum diffraction efficiency was 88%.

  • We investigated the Surface-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) spectrum of ethephone (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid). We observed significant signals in the ordinary Raman spectrum for solid-state ethephone as well as when it was adsorbed on a colloidal silver surface, strong vibrational signals were obtained at a very low concentration. The SERS spectra were obtained by silver colloids that were prepared by the $\gamma$-irradiation method. The influence of pH and the influence of anion $(Cl^-,\;Br^-,\;I^-)$ on the adsorption orientation were investigated. Two different adsorption mechanisms were deduced, depending on the experimental conditions. The chlorine atom or the chlorine and two oxygen atoms were adsorbed on the colloidal silver surface. Among halide ions, $Br^-$ and $I^-$ were more strongly adsorbed on the colloidal silver surfaces. As a result, the adsorption of ethephone was less effective due to their steric hinderance.
