A Study on the Preparation of High Purity Silicic Acid by Solvent Extraction from Sodium Silicate (규산 나트륨으로부터 유기 용매 추출에 의한 고순도 규산 제조에 관한 연구)

  • Silicic acid(SA) was extracted with organic solvents from aqueous sodium silicate solutions acidified with dilute sulfuric acid. Tetrahydrofuran(THF), isopropyl alcohol and acetone were used as organic solvents. The extraction degree of Si and the removal efficiency of Na is determined according to kinds of solvent and the mixing ratios of solvent, sodium chloride and $H_2O$. Optimum conditions for the preparation of high purity SA were THF as an organic solvent, volume ratio of organic solvent/SA : 1 (organic solvent 10ml/10ml SA) and the amount of NaCl addition 2.5g/10ml SA. The extraction degree of Si and the removal efficiency of Na at that point were 86.2% and 99.95% respectively and the purity of SA was 99.96%.

Preparation and Characterization of Silver Nanoparticles Embedded in Silica Sol Particles

  • Silver nanoparticles coated with silica can be obtained by the reduction of $AgNO_3$ with hydrazine in the presence of NaOH-stabilized, active silicic acid (polysilicic acid). The size of the silver nanoparticles and the silica shell thicknesses were affected by varying the hydrazine content, the active silicic acid content and the experimental method (e.g. hydrothermal method). Typically, silver nanoparticles sized around 40 nm were aggregated, connected by silica. The presence of peaks centered around 400 nm in UV-vis spectra corresponds to the surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles. The size of the aggregated silver nanoparticles increased with increasing hydrazine concentration. Under hydrothermal conditions at $150^{\circ}C$ the formation of individual silica particles was observed and the sizes of the silver nanoparticles were reduced. The hydrothermal treatment of silver nanoparticles at $180^{\circ}C$ gives a well-defined Ag@$SiO_2$ core-shell in aggregated silica sol particles. The absorption band observed at around 412 nm were red-shifted with respect to the uncoated silver nanoparticles (${\lambda}_{max}$ = 399 nm) due to the larger refractive index of silica compared to that of water. The formation of silver nanoparticles coated with silica is confirmed by UV-visible absorption spectra, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) data.

  • The properties of sodium silicate solution were surveyed by using the yellow silicomolybdic method, and the formation of silica sol from sodium silicate solution and the growth of silica sol were investigated in this study. The $SiO_2$ content of 2 wt% in sodium silicate solution was proper to oxidize sodium silicate with sulfuric acid. After the removal of sodium ions in sodium silicate solution, the pH of silicate solution had to be controlled above 9 for the stabilization of silicate solution. The condensation between silicic acid species and silica nuclei surfaces has been studied at $20{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ and pH 10 in silicate solutions with silica nuclei. The reaction falls into two kinetics regimes, limited at high silicic acid species concentration by polymerization, but at lower concentration by a process whereby deposited silicic acid species condenses further to silica. The overall condensation is first-order in silicic acid species concentration, proceeded toward to pseudo equilibrium concentration, $C_x$, rather than the solubility of amorphous silica. The heat of solution of amorphous silica was 3.34 kcal/mol and exhibits an Arrhenius temperature dependence with an apparent activation energy of 3.16 kcal/mol in the range of $20{\sim}80^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was carried out to obtain an information for the earthworms (Lumbricus terrestris) as total lipid, three lipid classes and their fatty acid compositions. Total lipids of earthworm consisted of 35.14% of neutral lipids, 41.74% of glycolipids and 23.12% of phospholipids. A wide variety of fatty acid esters ranging from $C_{10}\;to\;C_{22}$were identified and lower fatty acids than $C_{10}$ detected but not identified. In the neutral lipid, the major fatty acids were lauric acid, oleic acid, myristic acid and caproenoic acid. The fatty acid composition in the glycolipid was specific, so caproic acid content was 25.8% and unknown lower fatty acids than that were 23.22%. In the phospholipids, the major fatty acids were oleic acid, caproic acid, linolenic acid and behenic acid. Unsaturated fatty acid contents in the phospholipids were higher than in the neutral and glycolipids.

Studies on the Separation and Identification of Acids in Izmir Tobacco Leaves (Izmir 잎담배 중 Acids 성분의 분리 및 확인에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to separate and identify the acidic compounds in tobacco leaves. Izmir tobacco leaves was extracted with isopropyl ether and the extract was concentrated. The concentrate was extracted with 6% NaHCO3 aqueous solution. The aqueous extract was acidified with sulfuric acid, and extracted with diethyl ether. The acidic material was fractionated on silicic acid column using a benzene-methanol mixture with a stepwise increasing methanol concentration. The resulting fractions were esterified with diazomethane, and then identified by GC, GC/MS using SPB -5 fused silica capillary column. Most of acidic compounds in Izmir tobacco leaves were elected from fraction B which was benzene-methanol(98 : 2) mixture on silicic acid column chromatography. The identified acidic compounds of Izmir tobacco leaves were 18 saturated acids, 8 unsaturated acids, 5 dicarboxylic acids, 13 aromatic acids and 7 terpenoid acids. The major acidic compounds of lzmir tobacco leaves were 2- methylbutanoic, 3-methyl butanoic, 3- methylpentanoic, hexanoic, nonanedioic, phenylacetic, benzoic, 4- methoxybenzoic, 3, 5- dimethoxybenzoic, methoxycinnamic and 3, 4- dimethoxycinnamic acid. Total Lipid Content and Fatty Acid Composition in Setaria italica, Panicum miliaceum and Sorghum bicolor (조, 기장, 수수의 지방질과 지방산 조성)

  • Fatty acid compositions of Setaria italica, Panirum miliaceum and Sorghum bicolor were determined with total lipids extracted. Total lipid content of Setaria italica, Panium miliaceum and Sorghum bicolor were 3.9%(w/w), 2.7%(w/w) and 2.3%(w/w), respectively. Total lipids were fractionated into neutral lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids by the silicic acid column chromatography. Neutral lipids were the most abundant component. Among fatty acids separated by GC, linoleic acid was determined as a major fraction in Setaria italica, Panicum miliaceum and Sorghum bicolor. Palmitic acid and oleic acid were also separated as second major components. In Setaria italica, behenic acid was separated from the phospholipid fraction and myristic acid from the neutral lipid fraction. Linolenic acid was not detected in all the samples.

Pore-Controlled Synthesis of Mesoporous Silica Particles by Spray Pyrolysis from Aqueous Silicic Acid (규산 수용액으로부터 분무열분해법에 의한 기공 특성이 제어된 메조기공의 다공성 실리카 분말 합성)

  • Spherical mesoporous silica particles, of which main pore diameter was 3.8 nm, were successfully prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous silicic acid. The effect of precursor concentration, reaction temperature, and the addition of urea and PEG on the particle diameter and pore properties such as pore diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area were investigated by using FE-SEM, particle size analyzer, and nitrogen absorption-desorption analysis. With an increase of the precursor concentration from 0.2 M to 0.7 M, the average particle diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area of the porous silica particles increased from 0.56 to $0.96\;{\mu}m$, 0.434 to $0.486\;cm^3/g$, 467.8 to $610.4\;m^2/g$, respectively. Within the temperature range $(600\;^{\circ}C{\sim}800\;^{\circ}C)$, there was no significant difference in the pore diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area. In addition, the addition of urea as an expansion aid led to slight increases in particle diameter, pore diameter, and specific surface area. However, when the polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an organic template was used, the total pore volume of porous particles increased dramatically.

  • To investigate the lipid components of Korean yams(Dioscorea batatas and Dioscorea aimadoimo), silicic acid column, thin layer and gas chromatographies were applied. Total crude lipid contents in D. batatas and D. aimadoimo were 1.70% and 1.31%, and total purified lipid contents were 1.35% and 0.99% on a dry weight basis. Lipids were fractionated and quantitated by silicic acid column chromatography. The contents of neutral lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids were 43.33, 39.60 and 17.07% in D. batatas and 43.94, 34.74 and 21.32% in D. aimadoimo. Neutral lipids were the most abundant, in which triglycerides and sterol ester were found as the major components. Glycolipids were mainly composed of monogalactosyl and trigalactosyl diglycerides. Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were the major components of phospholipid. Fatty acids of the total lipids were mainly linoleic and palmitic acids. The fatty acid compositions of neutral lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids were the same tendency as that of total lipids. However, the content of linolenic acid in glycolipids was higher than in neutral lipids and phospholipids when fractionated.

  • Lipids extracted and purified from Herbs Capsellae leaf ana root were studied, To investigate those, silicic acid column chromatography, TLC, GLC was used for analysis of lipids and Fatty acids composition. Following results were obtained. 1. From result of total lipid classes in Herba Capsellae leaf and root, NL were obtained 62.6%, 58.5% respectly. GL 20.8%, 17,8%. PL 16.6%, 23.7%, respectively. 2. Among the NL in Herba capsellae leaf and root, TG were predominant 77.5%, 80.3%, respectly. SE 9.2%, 8.4%. FFA 4.8%, 3.4%. 1.2-DG 4.1%, 3.6%. FS 2.2%, 2.2%. and 1, 3-DG 1.3%, 1.0%, in turn. 3. The major fatty acids in the lipid classes were linoic acid, palmitic acid, oleid acid, in all. And total unsaturated fatty acid was NL 78.0%, GL 66.6%, and PL 75.2% in Herbs capsellae leaf, and NL 66.1% GL 63.6% and PL 61.2% in Herbs capsellae root.

Studies on the Free Fatty Acids of Domestic Butter (국산 버터 중의 유리지방산에 관한 연구)

  • Free fatty acids of two brands of domestic butter were isolated directly by a modified silicic acid column chromatography, and were analyzed by gas liquid chromatography. $C_{18}$ FFA congeners $(C_{18_0},\;C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2}\;and\;C_{18:3})$ were the predominant components (52.83% in brand A and 47.50% in brand B), followed by $C_{16}$FFA (29.39% in brand A and 30.52% in brand B) and $C_{14}$FFA (11.85% in brand A and 13.76% in brand B). The other FFA were present as minor components (0.29-3.87%). Concentrations of four FFA $(C_4,\;C_6,\;C_{10}\;and\;C_{12})$FFA which would be expected to contribute strongly to hydrolytic rancidity off-flavors were below individual threshold level, except $C_4FFA$ (56 ppm) in butter B.
